Betrayal's Revealed

But why would David do such a thing?” Maya said, crossing her arms. Elena nodded her head negatively. “I don't know. Maybe he has been playing both sides all this while without us noticing”. “But why”? “What is his motive for doing all this, peradventure, we find him guilty”? Maya queried. Liam's eyes flickered with determination. “If he's up to something, we'll find out soon enough.” Outside, David walked swiftly towards Victor's mansion. His heart was beating strongly, regretting his actions in his mind. David ordered the hit on Victor, thinking the evidence found would give him leverage on Victor; and would use it against him if he betrayed him. But now, he'd have to face the man he had once respected as his enemy, he felt the weight of his sins, but he feared the outcome more. David was getting closer to Victor's mansion. His footsteps weakened as he reached the main entrance. He decided that he would beg for his life, confess his betrayal, and hope Victor would spare him. But deep down, he knew Victor would never forgive him. He opened the door sluggishly, revealing Victor's rage. “Victor, please.” I did it for us; and for the company. “You know, I can't go against the authorities.” Victor burst into laughter. “You thought you could outsmart me, David”? “You thought you could play both sides”? David knelt down immediately. “I… I had no choice.” Victor moved closer to him, his eyes were filled with rage. “You betrayed me, and now you will pay the price.” David begged for his life. He had hoped to have leverage on Victor, but he had only dug his grave. He needed to escape, but he was hopeless. David later resorted to bargaining with Victor while pleading for his life too. “I'll tell my team to back off, I will stop everything that I've started, only if you spare my life please.” Victor sat down on the couch, crossing both his legs, with a cigarette in his right hand. He puffed the smoke out and laughed out loud. “So I should spare your life over something I can handle myself”? “You must be out of your mind, David”. “How dare you betray me”? “It wasn't intentional, I beg of you, please have mercy on me”. David pleaded with tears rolling over his cheeks. “Take him out, and do the usual to him”. “So he will learn his lesson the hard way”. Victor ordered. As his men dragged David out, he struggled to let off the grip and ran to meet Victor where he was seated, holding his leg so tightly. “I have the…evidence with me here, ye.....s, the evidence is with me.” David said. “You mean, you have all the evidence against me with you right now.” David queried. With a shaky voice, “yes, I do”. My team isn't aware either. “So I brought it alongside the duplicate files too”. You can see for yourself, too. Victor confirmed, and he knew he was saying the truth. He freed all his men out of the building, leaving both of them inside the mansion. Victor cleared his throat. “I'm only releasing you based on the evidence you brought to me”. But if you ever play smart with me again, I'll make you suffer, until you beg for your life and give up. David stood up, and thanked Victor, but he had another request in mind. “Please, tell your men not to look for my team, I'll handle them myself”. Victor nodded and David walked out of the mansion. Back in the hidden room, everyone was shocked about the conversation between Victor and David. Elena never thought of it that David could betray her, despite all the good ethics he taught her. Elena's voice cut through the silence. “Why would David do this to us, why?” Maya's eyes widened. “The fact that he took with him the evidence we got is more despicable”. “At least, we could have found a way to drag him out of his mess”. “Why'd he betray us completely”? Liam giggled. “Well, I've always doubted him, just that you guys don't believe me”. Liam turned to Elena. “So, what do you suggest we do now”? “I need to confront David first”. “I need to know why he's doing this, and why he had to be an ally to Victor Blackwood”. She paused. Her eyes filled with tears already. The betrayal hit Elena deep down in her heart. Maya moved closer to comfort her. “You don't need to cry, Elena”. “I know how you feel deep down, but this isn't the time you have to be weak, but strong”. Maya said, placing her arms around Elena. “But we've lost every evidence we have against Victor, and I nearly lost my life, if not that you guys came to my rescue”. Elena said, tearfully. “Elena, it's okay”. “You need to stay strong for us to start over again”. “Don't allow David's betrayal to get into you like this”. Maya said, trying to comfort Elena. Guys…see, we need a plan. “It's good we find out that, David is working for Victor”. “Do we pretend like we don't know, or what”? Liam asked, furiously. Elena stood up immediately. “I will confront him myself, it won't be of help to me if I don't”. “I can't live with such a burden”. Immediately, a knock was heard at the door, and David stepped in, closing the door behind him. Not aware of things, he went ahead to meet Elena where she was standing. He held her hand. “Elena, how do you feel now”? “Awful” Elena responded. “What do you mean awful?” Is there anything going on that I'm now aware of? David asked. “Ok, fine”. “We lost the evidence”. Elena said. “What do you mean by you lost the evidence”? “Don't tell me we forgot it at the warehouse"? David asked, not knowing, Elena was playing him. Elena laughed hysterically. “An actor suits you well, how dare you, David”. “I'm lost here, what's going on here”? David said, staring at Elena. “You were like a father to me, David”. “How could you betray me”? Elena's voice trembles with a mix of anger and heartbreak. “What do you mean, Elena”? “I've never, for once, betrayed you”. David said, his voice tense. Elena raised her hands up to slap David, but she stopped halfway, she could not slap him. “Why are you still feigning ignorance after everything you've done”? “Pretending as if nothing happened”. “Why”? Elena, who was already in tears, lashed out. “I don't understand what's going on, can someone explain to me, or is it still somewhat of a prank"? David asked. Elena cleaned her tears off. “Fine, if that's how you want to play it”. “We overheard your discussion with Victor, we planted a bug on your coat because Liam doubted you, and he was right”. David searched his coat and found the bug. He lashed out with anger, while destroying the listening device. “How dare you do this to me?” David said with rage. “How dare you betray us”? Elena voiced out with anger.
