He slammed on the gas and screeched up to the apartment we used to rent together. He punched in the door code. The lock let out a harsh, grating beep-beep. Wrong password. He banged on the door so hard his palm turned bright red. The elderly landlady who lived across the hall poked her head out her door. "Quit knocking. The tenant moved out and terminated the lease yesterday." "Moved out?" Liam froze dead in his tracks. "Where did Cindy go?" "How would I know? She only dragged one suitcase when she left, threw everything else out." The landlady shook her head and shut her door. Liam fished out his spare key and forced the door open.
