We made it 12 hours as Mr. and Mrs. Drayce before everything burned.
12 hours.
The video hit at 6:03AM.
_EXCLUSIVE: DRAYCE-VALE CONTRACT MARRIAGE EXPOSED_
Hallway kiss. Multi-angle.
Our signatures on the contract. Clause 3 highlighted.
And Maya’s voice at the end: _“They’re frauds. This is all for money.”
By 6:15 my phone had 400 missed calls.
By 6:30 #FraudWedding was #1 worldwide.
By 7:00 the board had called an emergency meeting.
Caelen was already dressed. Black suit. No coffee.
He looked at me like I was a problem he had to solve.
“Pack a bag,” he said. “We’re leaving.”
“Where?” I asked. Still in his t-shirt.
“Somewhere they can’t find us,” he said. “For 48 hours.
Until my lawyers can bury this.”
“Run?” I laughed. Bitter. “That’s your plan?”
“My plan is to keep you safe,” he snapped. “And to keep the company
from being seized by noon.”
He threw me jeans. A sweater. Sunglasses.
“Move, Seren.”
I moved.
We didn’t take the car.
We took a service elevator. Then a tunnel. Then a black SUV with tinted windows.
No driver. Caelen drove.
He drove like the devil was behind us.
Because he was.
Drones. News vans.
_“CAELEN! DID YOU FORCE HER?”_
_“SEREN! HOW MUCH DID HE PAY YOU?”_
“Duck,” he said.
I did.
We got to a private airstrip 40 minutes outside the city.
A jet was waiting. No logo.
“Where are we going?” I asked as we boarded.
“Nowhere,” he said. “And everywhere.”
The jet took off.
Silence.
Just the hum of engines and my phone buzzing.
Mom: _Baby call me_
Unknown: _s**t_
Unknown: _Divorce him_
Derek: _Told you_
Unknown: _You look good running - A Friend_
That last one made me throw up.
Literally. Into the bag the flight attendant gave me.
Caelen knelt in front of me. Wiped my mouth.
“Hey. Breathe.”
“I’m on every news channel,” I whispered. “I’m a meme.”
“I know,” he said. “I’m sorry.”
“For what? Marrying me? Or lying to me?”
“For both,” he said. Honest.
He pulled me into his lap. Right there on the jet floor.
Didn’t care.
“I should’ve told you about Evelyn,” he said. “About the contract being real.
About everything.”
“You thought I’d run,” I said.
“I knew you would,” he corrected. “And I didn’t want you to.”
We sat like that until we landed.
Somewhere cold. Mountains. Snow.
A cabin. No address. No neighbors.
Just us.
The first 24 hours were quiet.
Too quiet.
Caelen made calls. All day. Lawyers. PR. Board members.
I watched snow fall.
I didn’t go online. I couldn’t.
On night 2, he came to bed.
We still had separate rooms. Rule.
But he knocked.
“Can I come in?”
I nodded.
He lay next to me. On top of the covers.
Didn’t touch me.
“Tell me to go and I will,” he said.
“Stay,” I said.
We didn’t sleep. Just talked.
About his dad. About my dad.
About the first time he saw me. 16. At a charity event.
Red dress even then.
“I hated you on sight,” he said. “Because you looked like hope.
And I didn’t believe in it anymore.”
“I hated you too,” I said. “Because you looked like the end of it.”
He laughed. Quiet. “Fair.”
At 3AM he fell asleep.
Hand barely brushing mine.
I watched him.
The man who ruined me.
The man who saved me.
Morning 3. The truce broke.
Knocking. Loud.
Caelen was up in a second. g*n in hand.
I’d never seen him with a g*n.
He looked through the peephole. Swore.
“Derek.”
He opened the door.
Derek. Soaked. Freezing.
“How did you find us?” Caelen said.
“I have my ways,” Derek said. Looking past him. At me.
“Seren. We need to talk.”
Caelen stepped in front of me. “You have 2 minutes.”
Derek looked wrecked. “Please. Just her.”
“No,” Caelen said.
“Fine,” Derek said. “Then you hear it too.”
He pulled out a USB.
“Evelyn wasn’t working alone,” he said. “She had help.
From inside Drayce. From your CFO. From your mother.”
Caelen went still. “What?”
“They set the whole thing up,” Derek said. “The contract leak.
The wedding crash. They want you out, Caelen.
They want the company. And they’re using Seren to do it.”
I felt sick. “Mrs. Drayce?”
Derek nodded. “She called me last week.
Offered me money to convince you to leave him.
When I said no, she told Evelyn to make it worse.”
Caelen took the USB. Plugged it into his laptop.
Emails. Recordings.
Mrs. Drayce: _“Make sure the girl breaks. Then we take everything.”
Evelyn: “Consider it done, Auntie.”
My own mother-in-law.
Caelen closed the laptop.
His face was blank. That was worse than angry.
“Thank you,” he said to Derek.
“Don’t,” Derek said. “I’m not doing this for you.
I’m doing this for her.”
He looked at me. “Come home, Seren. With me.
Before they hurt you.”
The room was so quiet I could hear the snow.
Caelen didn’t look at me.
“Your choice,” he said. Quiet.
Like the letter. Like the altar.
I walked to Derek.
He exhaled. Like he’d won.
Then I walked past him.
To Caelen.
Took his hand.
“I’m not going anywhere,” I said.
Derek’s face broke.
“You’re making a mistake,” he whispered.
“I made it 3 weeks ago,” I said. “When I kissed him.”
Derek left. No goodbye.
That night Caelen didn’t sleep.
He paced. Called people.
At 4AM he came to me.
“We have to go back,” he said. “Tomorrow.
Fight them. In court. In the boardroom.”
“What if we lose?” I asked.
“Then we lose together,” he said. “But we’re not losing.”
He kissed me.
Not desperate. Not angry.
Just... sure.
“Marry me again,” he whispered against my lips.
“What?”
“In a church. With Mom. With no contracts.
Just you and me. When this is over.”
“Deal,” I said.
We flew back at dawn.
The news was worse.
_DRAYCE BOARD VOTES TO REMOVE CEO_
_SEREN VALE FILES FOR DIVORCE?_
Fake. All fake.
The second we landed, police were there.
“Mr. Drayce. Ms. Drayce. You need to come with us.
Questions about Evelyn Drayce.”
Caelen squeezed my hand. “We’re not running anymore.”
“No,” I said. “We’re fighting.”
At the station, they told us Evelyn was arrested.
Tried to cross the border with the contract and the video.
Mrs. Drayce was “assisting with inquiries.”
Derek’s USB did it.
When we walked out, the sun was up.
Reporters were there.
But this time Caelen didn’t hide me.
He pulled me in front of him.
“My wife and I have nothing to hide,” he said.
“The contract was real. The marriage is real.
And anyone who tries to hurt her answers to me.”
He kissed me.
In front of everyone.
Not for cameras.
For me.
That night we didn’t go to the penthouse.
We went home.
Our home.
He carried me over the threshold.
“Clause 3 is still broken,” he said, grinning.
“I know,” I said. “Break it again.”
We did.
2 weeks later.
Small church.
Mom. Frank. No board. No press.
Just us.
White dress. Real one.
Caelen in a suit.
No contract. No deadline.
“Do you take him?”
“I do,” I said.
“Do you take her?”
“I do,” he said.
“Then I now pronounce you”
My phone buzzed.
Unknown.
“Congratulations.
Round 2 soon.
A Friend”
I deleted it.
Looked at Caelen.
He saw. “Who?”
“No one,” I said. “Just the past.”
He took my hand.
“Then let’s forget it.”
We kissed.
Husband and wife.
For real this time.
Outside, the world was still watching.
Inside, it was just us.
Betrayed by love.
Ruined by choice.
Saved by it too.
