Chapter 11 Eva

Chapter 11 Eva It’s an hour’s drive back into the city to pick up Lilura’s truck. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw Lilura resting her head on Tyr’s shoulder, so cute I thought as I sighed. I focused on the road ahead of me though I could sense Kodan looking at me. My phone rang over my Bluetooth and Marcus’ name popped up on my screen. I debated answering it but sent it to voicemail. He called a second time. “Do you need to answer that?” Kodan asked. “Well I guess so; it must be important for him to call twice.” I reluctantly answer it. “Hello?” “Eva! Why did you send me to voicemail?” Marcus asked me.  “I’m driving in the car and I have…” Marcus interrupted me. “That’s no reason to send me to voicemail! I called to tell you that I want you to return to the Clan house immediately.” Marcus demanded. “I can’t right now. I am busy investigating the supernatural murders.” I informed him coolly. “Hmm. Fine we will have to do this over the phone though I would prefer if you were here in person.” Marcus told me. “Okay, what do you want to talk about? Business?” I guess. “No, our relationship.” He began. I instantly felt embarrassed, I was in a car full of people. “Marcus, wait we should do this in person. I’m not alone in my car.” I told him but he just talked over the top of me. “What you said about not putting up with this repetitive cycle really got me thinking.” He told me. “About what I asked?” I was hopeful that we finally figured out what he wanted. “That I hate ultimatums!” He yelled, which made me jump in surprise. “I don’t like being told what I can and cannot have!” “Sorry to disappoint but I don’t want to continue this cycle anymore! I am not okay with you deciding every twenty years that you are bored of me! If you want to spice up our relationship all you had to do was ask!” I yelled. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Kodan staring out the window, trying his best to ignore my conversation with Marcus. “What do you mean spice it up? You already said you don’t like seeing other vampires! What else is there?” Marcus demanded. “I have always been open to adding a third you just never asked and have always assumed I don’t like to share!” I screamed at him. In the rearview, I could see Tyr looked uncomfortable about where this conversation was going. “Well then why didn’t you stay when Alice arrived?” He yelled. In the rearview, I noticed Lilura facepalm and roll her eyes. “I hate Alice! Besides I’ve come to the realization that you don’t love me anymore! The only reason you turned and loved me is because of what I could have given you!” I yelled. My hands squeezed the steering wheel and I could feel it start to mold to my fingers. I was starting to lose control and I could tell my aura was pushing out. “That is not true! I loved you the moment I laid my eyes on you! But you’re right I have fallen out of love with you and its been happening for a while!” He screamed. “Well, I have fallen out of love with you!” I yelled lamely. “Good! That means you can take on more responsibilities as my second in command!” He continued to yell. “More responsibilities? More responsibility! What more do you want me to do? I’m already in charge of all the clan businesses and security across the country! Do you want me to take over visiting all our clan houses or maybe you want me to take your seat on the council! Do you want me to deal with those greedy bastards from Europe, Asia, and Africa? What do you want?” I screamed. The angrier I became the more my English accent pushed through. I could hear things breaking on the other end of the call, no doubt he was destroying his office. “I want you to be my second in command and that is it! I don’t want to interact with you beyond your required duties!” He finally yelled. “Fine!” I yelled and hung up on him. We were ten minutes away from my office building. Kodan was still looking out the window and Tyr looked furious glaring at me in the rearview and Lilura looked unhappy. I was still furious, but I needed to calm down. I still had a murderer to catch. Maybe I could maim him beyond recognition to release some of my anger. “You need to suppress your aura and calm down,” Tyr told me. “Lilura is in a very vulnerable state while drained she doesn’t need your anger draining her anymore.” “I’m calm!” I yell. Tyr was right though Lilura was very sensitive to the change in emotional states drained the way she was. “Clearly,” Tyr muttered. I squeezed the steering wheel as my anger boiled up again. I took some deep calming breaths and focused on parking my car. We all got out of my car and I could see them all breathe a sigh of relief. “Tyr and I will go to the World’s Fair Park. You and Kodan should go to Cal Johnson Park.” Lilura told me. “Okay, call if you see anything or need anything and we will be right over,” I told her. “Will do.” She said and she and Tyr went to her truck. I looked at Kodan who was staring at me. “Are you ready to go?” I asked him. “Yes, but I think I should drive. I’m pretty sure I heard your steering wheel crack as you got out.” He told me. I looked in my window and there was my steering wheel cracked in half and hanging by wires. “Fuck.” I followed Kodan to his black Audi. I opened the door and strapped myself in. “Do you know where Cal Johnson Park is?” I asked. “Yes, I grew up here. My brother and I would go to the rec center a lot.” Kodan told me. I bit my lip unsure if I should say anything. “I overheard Tyr and Lilura. I am sorry about your brother.” “Thank you.” I texted my secretary to get my car fixed and put my phone away. We silently drove to the park. I looked out the window and sighed. I was finally done with my relationship with Marcus, for good this time. It was time for me to move on, maybe with this hunky werewolf I thought. That thought made me smile. Kodan was very attractive and being a werewolf would be able to keep up with my pace. The more I thought about him and me together, the more I liked the idea.  Kodan parked the car and we got out. “Let’s take a quick look around and then we can get back in the car and begin our stakeout,” Kodan told me. We split up and looked through the park for a fae or the murder, but no one was there. I met Kodan back at the car. We got back in and silently looked out at the park. Eventually, I couldn’t stand the silence anymore. “Hey sorry about my phone call with Marcus. That was probably horrible for all of you.” “It was interesting. I’m sorry you broke up over the phone, and that we all witnessed it. How long had the two of you been together?” Kodan asked curiously. “Since the beginning, seven hundred and seventy-six years. Less if you count all the time we spent in our off phases.” I told him and saw his eyes widen. “Wow, that's a long time to be with one person.” He said. “Well, we weren’t always with each other. At the beginning everything was wonderful.” I told him reminiscing about being first turned and the first twenty-three years of our lives together. “What changed?” Kodan asked. “Marcus chose to turn me because apparently he loved me at first sight as you heard him say and I had a baby, who was reaching his first year. Marcus came to my village on my first anniversary with my husband and saw me in the tavern celebrating. I saw him too, and he was the most handsome man I had ever seen. His previous master only chose to turn the most beautiful into vampires. Anyway, he followed my husband and I to pick up our son from my husbands’ family and then to our home. Marcus knocked on the door and my husband answered it. Marcus drained him as I stood watching, holding my son. I wasn’t terrified of him. I understood what he was, I knew that if he turned me, I would have the freedom that I would never know living with my husband. He slowly approached me trying not to scare me or my son and offered to turn me if I went with him and continued to raise my son. I agreed and Marcus turned me. We got on his ship and then sailed for Italy. These early days were the best, he had always wanted a family and that option had been taken away from him by his previous master. We were a family; we raised my son and when he turned twenty-three Marcus was ready to turn him. Unfortunately, he had an aneurysm on the day Marcus was going to turn him. We were both devastated, and I fell into a deep depression. Marcus couldn’t take it anymore and told me he wanted to see other vampires. I let him because I was too depressed by the loss of my son to think clearly. That’s when our relationship started to go downhill. Twenty years together and twenty years separated until now.” I told Kodan the story of my life and a secret that I kept to myself one that Lilura didn’t even know. Kodan was silent trying to process all that I told him, so I continued. “We have been in an off phase for the past three years, so the phone call you overheard wasn’t a surprise to me. We even had a fight a few days ago when I started to realize that maybe he didn’t love me anymore and I didn’t either and maybe we would be better off to have our relationship stay strictly business. I am ready to move on, you know.” “Yeah, I understand. I just broke up with a longtime girlfriend as well.” Kodan told me. I turned to face him. “I’m sorry.” “I’m not. Like you, our relationship had been over for a while it just took me time to figure that out.” He said looking in my eyes. We looked at each other quietly for a while. “Wow, that was a depressing conversation,” I said jokingly. Kodan laughed a deep sexy laugh and I bit my lip. His laugh turned me on. It reminded me of my earlier thoughts about him and the two of us being together. He stopped laughing suddenly and sniffed the air ever so slightly and looked me in the eyes. His eyes shifted from their golden-brown color to amber and back again. He was fighting his wolf for some reason and the changing of his eye colors was sexy turning me on even more. Suddenly his lips are on mine and I respond quickly. A warm feeling spreads through me as Kodan kisses me and runs his hands down my sides to my hips. He pulls me closer until the center console is blocking me. He growls in frustration, as I pull away. I maneuver my way over the console and into Kodan’s lap. I can feel him growing between my legs as I straddle his lap and kiss him. He runs one hand down my back and rests his hand on my lower back while the other makes its way underneath my shirt to my breasts and squeezes them through my bra. I continue kissing him and rest one hand on his muscular shoulder while the other runs through his hair and holds it tight. I can feel a large bulge in his jeans as he continues to get hard and have a momentary thought of this will be fun. His hand on my back unclasped my bra and moved back to hold me as his other hand got under my bra and played with my breasts and n*****s. The sensation makes me shiver and rock forward even closer to his chest. He moaned as I moved and pressed myself against him. Out of nowhere, I am pulled out of my lust by my phone ringing. I grab it out of my purse and look as Kodan moves his kisses to my neck. It’s Lilura. I take a deep breath and let it out. “Hello?” “We caught a human we think it’s the killer,” Lilura tells me. Kodan stops kissing my neck and listens. “Alright, Kodan, and I will be there in ten minutes,” I tell her and hang up. I sigh and move back to my seat and hook my bra and buckle up. I pull the visor down and look at myself in the mirror and touch up my makeup and hair. I look at Kodan who is focused on the road, his knuckles turning white from gripping the steering wheel so hard. I open the window and let in some fresh air hoping that helps us both calm down from our lustful make out session. I wasn’t going to lie. I really wanted to do it again, but this time all the way. I smirked at that thought and I saw Kodan stiffen again and he opened his window. I thought about the murderous human that Lilura and Tyr caught and hoped they were right. I didn’t want any more supernaturals to die. We arrived at World’s Fair Park and found Lilura and Tyr with a human tied up in vines standing next to Lilura’s truck. Kodan and I stepped out of the car and immediately I knew we had a problem. This was not our killer. “It's not him,” Kodan told them. “Are you sure?” Lilura asked. “He was following a fae woman suspiciously.” “Yes,” I told her. “Darn it! Okay, Tyr let him go.” Lilura said. The vines that were wrapped around the human dropped. “You came to World’s Fair Park and decided to leave. You will remember none of what has happened here other than arriving and deciding to leave.” I told the man using my compulsion on him. The human man left and Tyr and Lilura were disappointed. “Sorry, we were so positive it was him,” Lilura told us. “That’s alright. Why don’t the two of you do another sweep of the park and continue your stakeout? Eva and I will go back to Cal Johnson Park.” Kodan said. “Okay, we will call if we catch another human,” Lilura said. Kodan and I got back in the car and drove back to Cal Johnson Park. When we arrived Kodan wanted to do another sweep. This time we went together. We didn’t see anything until we came to the rec center. I could smell death and the human. The scent was fresh. Kodan and I hurried and found a shifted dead werewolf with its throat slit and eye missing. “I’ll stay here and call Lilura and Tyr. While you follow the human’s scent.” I told Kodan. “Alright,” Kodan said and left. I called Lilura. “Hello? Did you catch a human too?” She asked. “No, we were too late, he killed a werewolf. Come to the park, the body is by the rec center. Kodan is tracking the human’s scent, hopefully he can find him.” “Okay, we are on the way.” She told me. I hung up and called Elise and her team. “Hello,” Elise answered. “Elise, we have a dead werewolf at the Cal Park Rec Center, get your crew over here to clean up the scene and take the body to Misty and Lauren.” “Okay, be there in twenty.” She told me and hung up. I looked at the poor dead wolf lying on the ground and closed his remaining eye. When I stood, Kodan was back and looking at me. “Did you find the human?” I asked. “No, his trail ended, he probably got in a car.” “Alright. I called my cleaners to come and clean the scene and take this poor wolf to my lab.” I told him gently, unsure of how he would react. “Good idea.” Is all he said. “Do you know who this is?” I asked. “Yes, it's Kevin. He is a young pup who just graduated high school.” Kodan told me. “I am so sorry. Instead of the lab should I have Kevin dropped off at your pack?” “No. Once he has been processed for evidence, I will have someone come to your lab and pick him up,” Kodan told me. “Okay, I’ll inform Misty and Lauren,” I said as I texted them. “Thanks.” Kodan was silent for a long time until Lilura and Tyr arrived. “Kodan I am so sorry! If we hadn’t caught the wrong human, you guys would have been here to catch the killer.” Lilura told him. “It's alright, this is no one’s fault except the killers,” Kodan told her. Elise and her team arrived shortly after and carefully put Kevin’s body in their van and began cleaning the scene. We walked back to Kodan and Lilura’s cars and let Elise work. “Let's all get some rest tonight. We have had a long day and we can start fresh tomorrow. Misty and Lauren should have some results for us then. You all are more than welcome to stay at my apartment in my guest rooms.” I tell them. “Thank you, Eva. That sounds like a good idea. It's already pretty late.” Lilura yawned as she spoke. “Great, let's go!” I say and open Kodan’s car door and slide in. Kodan and Tyr hesitated for a second, but it was clear that Lilura and I were going back to my place no matter what, so they decided to get on board with the plan. Kodan got in the driver seat and Tyr into Lilura’s truck. I gave Kodan directions to my apartment and we arrived ten minutes later. I had Kodan stop at the front door, Lilura pulled up behind me and we all got out. The two guards who were always standing there looked confused, they could smell that the others weren’t vampires. “This is Kodan, the next Alpha, and Tyr the next in line for the Seelie throne. They are with me, please take our cars to the garage.” I tell them my eyes are locked with theirs. They shook off my stare and did as I asked. We entered my apartment building and rode my private elevator to my penthouse. I let them inside. “Come in, make yourselves comfortable. I’m going to put clean sheets on my two guest beds.” I told them as I set my purse on my table. “Do you want help?” Lilura asked me. “I’m good, why don’t you make something to eat. None of us have eaten since this morning. You know where everything is.” I told her. She looked off in space for a second, “You’re right! No wonder I’m so weak.” Lilura began looking through my refrigerator and my pantry for ideas of what to cook. I left the three of them to figure it out for themselves. I could still hear them talking as I made each of my guest beds. Mostly Tyr wondered how Lilura knew where everything was in my apartment, he was surprised to find Lilura stayed here enough that I kept my kitchen stocked with food for her. When I finished making my guest beds I returned to the Kitchen, Lilura was deep into cooking. “Why don’t I show the two of you to my guest rooms,” I said to Tyr and Kodan. My guest rooms were on the opposite side of my apartment from my room, to provide my guests with privacy. I took Tyr and Kodan down the hallway and showed them the guest rooms and the bathroom set between the two. Then I gave them a tour of the rest of my apartment. As we walked into my room Kodan looked at me. “Lilura’s scent is all over this room. Is this her guest room?” Kodan asked and Tyr was instantly interested. “No, it’s my room,” I tell them and continue my way back to the kitchen where Lilura is finishing up their dinner. “You sleep in Eva’s room?” Tyr asks Lilura. “Yeah, we’re not men. Women can share a bed and, before your minds decide to take you somewhere s****l, we just sleep. Dinner’s ready.” Lilura tells us as she portions out three portions of dinner and hands me a glass of blood. We all eat and Kodan and Tyr do the dishes putting them in my dishwasher while Lilura and I get ready for bed. “Hey, I’m sorry about you and Marcus,” Lilura tells me once we are alone. “Me too, I guess. I’m mostly embarrassed that it happened while I was in the car with all of you.” I confided in her. “Yes, that was kind of crazy. I have never seen you so mad before.” She tells me. “Yes, well you should have seen me the other day I was way angrier. I had to go to the gym and punch the punching bag for two hours and duel with a guard before I calmed down.” I told her. “Wow. Well, still I’m sorry. I know this is not the way you wanted it to go.” Lilura comforted me and hugged me. “Thanks, it's for the best.” I told her and whispered, “Besides I made out with Kodan tonight.” “What! Really?” She exclaimed. “Yes, shh,” I told her. “How was it?” She asked curiously. “Amazing. He is so sexy.” I whispered. “Yeah.” She said trailing off. “Let’s get to bed.” We climbed in my bed and fell asleep.   When I woke up in the morning Kodan and Tyr were already up and making breakfast. I grabbed a glass of blood and sat at my island and watched them cook. “Is Lilura up yet?” Tyr asked. “No, she likes to sleep in, and I let her. Besides, after yesterday she should get as much rest as possible.” I told Tyr. A few hours later I got a phone call from Misty and Lauren confirming that the same killer murdered Kevin the werewolf from last night. They ran the hair through the police database and came up with nothing. “I can run it through the FBI database and see if we get a hit,” Kodan suggested. “That would help, Lauren and I only have access to the local police,” Misty told him on the other end of the phone. “Okay, I’ll have Eva text you information on where to send the hair you found on Kevin,” Kodan told Misty. “Okay, I’ll send it right away,” Misty told us and hung up. Kodan took my phone and texted Misty and then made a call to an FBI contact to get the DNA rushed. Lilura walked out of my room a few minutes later.
