Chapter 7 Eva
It’s Monday and I woke up at my usual time, six am. I was feeling extra hungry and drank two glasses of blood. I quickly got through the shower dried off and put on my fluffy white robe and brushed my teeth, blow-dried my hair, and put on my makeup. Once I was satisfied with my appearance, I hung up my robe and put on my titanium choker and my black Alexander McQueen double-breasted blazer and buttoned the only button, creating a deep v that terminated just below my choker. Then I put on the matching suit pants and my four-inch black pumps. I carefully hid some of my knives and touched up my appearance before leaving for my office building.
I worked in my office for a few hours until Lilura texted at 11 saying she was almost there. I called Misty and Lauren and informed them Mary-Beth’s body would be arriving any minute. I went down to the ground floor and headed to the back-alley entrance where I told her I would be waiting. I opened the door and waited for about five minutes when I heard her truck turn into the alley. When she pulled up, there was a large blue tarp over the back of her truck bed, and I could smell death. Lilura hopped out of her truck as I untied the tarp. Mary-Beth was wrapped in a white linen. I picked her up and wrinkled my nose. I carried Mary-Beth inside to the elevator that would take us to the basement labs. Lilura followed me.
“Can you press b3 please?”
“Sure.” Lilura pressed the button. “Thank you for having your coroner look at Mary-Beth. We didn’t learn much when we performed The Revealing. She was killed in her house and her body was moved, the killer cut her throat, and he cut off her right hand. I also suspect it may be a human doing the killing.”
“No problem, hopefully, Misty and Lauren can find evidence of this human and prove that these deaths are related as we suspect,” I said and the elevator door opened to the coroner’s lab.
“Is that the body?” Misty asked me.
“Yes, this is Lilura and her friend and fellow witch Mary-Beth.”
“Bring Mary-Beth over here and I will get started right away,” Misty told me.
I set Mary-Beth on one of the autopsy tables and Lauren came out of her part of the lab.
“Hi, Eva! Who’s your friend.”
“I’m Lilura.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Lauren, sorry we have to meet under such difficult circumstances.”
“Thank you, nice to meet you as well,” Lilura said.
“Misty and I will start by collecting some samples and looking for any evidence of who the killer is. Can you tell me who else has touched Mary-Beth?”
“Just myself, Eva, and a witch from my coven Jess. We did a Revealing spell and found that she was killed in her home and moved.”
“Alright, thank you.” Said Lauren.
“We will be headed back to my office,” I told Misty and Lauren.
“Alright, I will call you when I’m done.”
They began their work and I took Lilura to my office. I could still smell Mary-Beth’s death lingering on me. When we got out of my elevator, I stopped at my secretaries’ desk.
“Can you take these to be cleaned immediately?” I motioned to the clothes I was wearing.
“Of course.” She stood up and followed Lilura and I to my office.
I had my own private bathroom and took off my clothes and showered quickly and put on a robe. I handed my suit to my secretary and she went off to get my clothes cleaned. Lilura was sitting on my couch looking out the window, she had been quiet since she arrived.
“Is everything alright?” I asked her.
“Yes, I was just thinking is all.”
“Anything you want to share?”
“Something happened last night and I’m trying to figure out what I should do if I should do anything.”
“What happened? Are you alright?” I asked concerned.
“I kissed Tyr.”
“You kissed Tyr? The fae that likes to walk you home?”
“Yes, he asked me to do a reading for him and so I met him in the woods in my usual spot and did his reading. It was night and dark, so he walked me home and when we got to my door, I kissed him.”
“And then what?” I asked excitedly.
“Then he left and now I feel confused? What about Marcus, did you figure out what you are going to do?”
“Oh yes. I went to talk to him about Adrianna’s fight at Aura and we had a moment of weakness where we kissed, but his newest lover Alice came in and interrupted us. I yelled at Marcus for a while and he said that we both need time to think about what we want and I told him that I was not going to put up with the cycle that we are in any longer.”
“Wow, so what do you think you want?”
“I want him, but he is always the one who gets bored being with me. I guess if he wants to add a third, I would be okay with that as long as we agreed to who it was, and we wouldn’t see others after that.”
“Really? Did you tell him that?”
“No, I didn’t tell him, I want to know what he is thinking and wanting first.”
“Don’t you think you should tell him?”
“Probably, but I was just so angry yesterday I couldn’t tell him. I’ll just wait until the next time I see him.”
“Alright,” Lilura said.
We sat quietly for a minute and I heard Lilura’s stomach growl. I picked up my phone and called my secretary.
“Can you please get a burger and fries for Lilura from the Downtown Grill and Brewery?” I asked my secretary.
“Yes, I’ll be back in twenty minutes.”
“Thank you.” I hung up my phone.
“You know me so well, thank you! I was starting to get really hungry.” Lilura told me.
“Your welcome.”
We chatted until my secretary brought in Lilura’s food and told me my suit would be ready soon. While Lilura enjoyed her food, I continued to chat and work on some of my mindless business tasks. An hour and a half later my secretary brought in the freshly cleaned suit and I went into my bathroom and changed. I sat back down at my desk and got comfortable when my phone rang.
“Hello?”
“It’s Misty and Lauren. We have some results for you.”
“Alright, we will be right down,” I told them and hung up. “They have some results, are you ready to go back downstairs?”
“Yes.”
Lilura and I left my office and rode the elevator to the ground floor before switching to the elevator that led down to the labs. Misty and Lauren were waiting, they covered Mary-Beth with a white sheet.
“What did you find out?” I asked them.
“Well there was other DNA on Mary-Beth, two different female DNA, our guess is Lilura and Jess. But to be sure we would need samples to eliminate.” Lauren told us.
“Alright. What else?” I asked.
“We also found that the neck wound is consistent with Sergio’s wound. The same weapon was used, and it was cut from the same angle and by the same hand. It is the same person. We suspect a human man because of the angle and depth of the wound.” Misty told us.
“So, a human is killing supernaturals? Are you positive?” I asked both of them.
“Yes!” They said at the same time.
“Do you have proof of this besides the wound?” I asked.
“Yes, we have had more time to work on Sergio and Andrew and have found some hair and fibers and have tested them. They come from a male, human. Supernatural DNA looks different so we could eliminate it right away.” Lauren said.
“Did you run the DNA?” Lilura asked.
“We had one of our vampire colleagues at the police station run it through the local database and there were no results. It appears the human has not been arrested before.” Lauren told Lilura.
“Okay, so we have two dead vampires and witches killed by a human man. We should get all the supernatural leaders together and meet, see if the werewolves and fae have had any of their members killed similarly.” Lilura suggested.
“That’s a great idea. I think the werewolves have had a member killed. When you and I were out for book club and you went to the bathroom a female wolf felt a pain in her chest and I overheard her say she thought her mate was dead.” I told Lilura.
“I can find out for sure. I have a werewolf contact that I can call.” Lilura told me.
“Good, do it.”
Lilura pulled out her phone and called someone.
“Hello?” Said a man’s sexy voice on the other end of the phone.
“It’s Lilura. I need your help.”
“Okay, how can I help?” He asked.
“Two witches and two vampires have been killed by a human man and we suspect a werewolf has been murdered possibly by the same human. Can you tell me if there have been any murdered werewolves here?” She asked the man on the other end of the phone.
He was silent but finally answered. “Yes, a werewolf has been murdered. I am actually at the airport about to catch a flight back to Knoxville. Are you sure it’s a human and not a supernatural?”
“Yes, we have evidence. I am trying to get all the supernatural leaders together tonight around nine at World’s Fair Park to meet and discuss this. Can you come; I want to show you what we have so far?”
“My flight won’t be in until eleven tonight, but I will convince the Alpha to go to this meeting, and tomorrow morning around ten we can meet, and you can show me what you have so far.”
“Alright, thank you Kodan.”
“Okay, bye.” Kodan hung up.
“He said he will convince the Alpha to come to this meeting,” Lilura told me.
“I know, I heard. I will call Marcus and convince him to go to this meeting.” I told her.
“Okay, I will call Tyr and have him get the fae to go.”
I called Marcus.
“Eva, I’m surprised to hear from you after yesterday.” He said and I made a fist.
“Yes, well we have proof that a human has been killing vampires and witches. There is going to be a supernatural leaders meeting tonight at nine at World’s Fair Park. We should go and find out if the fae and werewolves have had people murdered by this human. This could be a uniting point and prevent war especially now we know that a werewolf did not kill Sergio.”
Marcus was silent and I could hear him drumming his fingers on his desk. “Alright. We will go to this meeting.” Then he hung up.
I took a deep breath and let go of my anger. Hopefully, Lilura had good luck with Tyr.
Lilura dialed Tyr’s number and waited for him to answer.
“Hello.” Said a deep males voice on the other end of the line. I watched as Lilura bit her lip.
“Hey! It’s Lilura!” Lilura said with fake enthusiasm. I could tell Lilura was feeling awkward, but I couldn’t stop my vampire hearing.
“What do you want?” The voice snapped. I fought a growl that was rising in my throat. Lilura was my closest friend. I did not like the way this man was talking to her. I forced myself to stay out of it.
“Look, I’m not trying to pester you for no reason. We have a whole bunch of murdered supernaturals, and we need some answers. Don’t get ahead of yourself and think that I’m some pining lovesick girl.” Lilura snapped back. Her red hair started to frizz out as a shock of anger-fueled electricity went through her. You could always determine a witch’s emotions by the energy she was emitting.
“How can I help?” Tyr asked much more politely.
“Have any Fae been found mysteriously dead recently? Say within the last week or two.” Lilura asked.
“Yes. Two in fact. Oberon was suspecting vampires as there was blood everywhere, but no bodies of course because they had already returned to nature.” He explained.
“Do you think Oberon would be willing to meet with the other supernatural leaders to discuss the murders? We are meeting at nine at World’s Fair Park.” Lilura inquired. She bit her nails nervously.
“I will get him there,” Tyr said simply.
“Okay thank you.”
“Goodbye, Lilura.”
Lilura hung up her call with Tyr and approached where I was standing.
“Tyr said he would convince them to be there. How did it go with Marcus?”
“He will be there.”
“Great!” Lilura received a text. “Looks like the Alpha will be in attendance as well.”
“We have about seven hours before this meeting, so I need to get back up to my office and finish some work,” I told Lilura.
“Alright, I will see you later tonight.”
We rode the elevator back up to the ground floor and I took Lilura out the back door and watched as she got in her truck and drove away. I returned to my office and worked for the next five hours straight. Only two hours left before meeting at World’s Fair Park. I packed up my stuff and rode the elevator to the ground floor and had my car pulled around. I drove straight to the Clan house. I found the captain of the night guard, Ian in the security room.
“Ian we are having a supernatural leaders meeting at World’s Fair Park. Please help me pick out a guard detail. Both Marcus and I will be attending this meeting.”
“Right away,” Ian said and got up and moved around the office quickly grabbing a list of who was on duty tonight.
We worked for the next hour and a half choosing and calling in the guards for the detail. When the guards were all ready to go, I went to Marcus’ office.
I knocked and he told me to enter.
“The guard detail is ready to leave,” I told him.
He looked at me and then stood up. I held the door for him and followed him down to the SUV that we would be riding in. One of the guards opened the back-seat door for us and Marcus slid inside and I after him. One guard drove while the other was in the passenger seat, and the rest of our guards rode in a separate car. We were silent the whole way to the park.
When we arrived at the park, we were fifteen minutes early. Our guards got out of the other car and stood around protecting our car. Five minutes later Lilura’s car pulled up and so did a line of other cars. I watch as she gets out, so I open my door and step out as well. Her Coven gets out of the cars and follows Lilura into the grass. I wave for Marcus to come and he and the rest of the guards follow me as I approach Lilura.
“Lilura, this is Marcus our Clan leader.” I introduced her to him. “Marcus this is Lilura, high priestess of the coven.”
They shake hands.
“Eva, this is my coven,” Lilura says and lists off who each of her coven members are.
The werewolves arrive next. Lilura introduces Marcus and I to Alpha of the North American Pack.
“Alpha Liam Scott of the North American Pack, this is Marcus of the North American Vampire Clan, and Eva his second in command.” Lilura introduces us.
“Pleasure to meet you, Alpha Liam,” I say and stick out my hand. He takes it reluctantly and shakes it tightly trying to squeeze my hand, but I keep my handshake firm.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you too.” He says and moves to Marcus and shakes his hand and exchanges pleasantries.
We waited on the Fae. I began to wonder if they are even coming, I checked my phone for the time. At exactly nine o’clock the fae appeared in the Park. The Seelie King and his advisor arrived or at least I assumed they arrived as they both were wearing very nice Seelie style clothes. The King was dressed in what appeared to be a medieval doublet of deep purple with accents of gold, his trousers a black canvas fabric. His golden hair was in waves down to his waist and a crown of golden leaves adorned his head. He looked old even for a Fae, but arrogant in the way he held himself. His advisor was in a similar medieval court fashion, but his colors were a dark red with black accents, his hair was black and much shorter than the Kings only reaching slightly past his chin. He appeared to be in his early thirties or late twenties, but I knew Fae lived extremely long lives and he could be older than even me. Their guards were wearing their armor and surrounded the two of them. The Seelie King’s adviser was looking directly at Lilura, though she didn’t seem to notice.
Lilura stepped forward and began to speak. “Thank you all for coming to this meeting. I know we don’t usually meet, but I think it is important that we try to have open communication especially right now.” Lilura told everyone.
I continued to watch the Seelie advisor, his eyes followed Lilura everywhere she went as she spoke, and the look in his eyes was tender amazement. I didn’t know who this advisor was, but I did not appreciate him looking at her like that.
Lilura continued. “Recently two witches and two vampires have been murdered. We have evidence that supports that a human has been killing supernaturals. Have either the werewolves or fae had any murders recently?” Lilura asked.
“Yes, a werewolf was killed only a few days ago.” Alpha Liam tells us.
“If I may ask, how was your werewolf killed?” Lilura asked.
“We aren’t sure he was lying on the ground with his eye missing.” Alpha Liam tells Lilura.
“Do you know if he was injected with a paralyzing agent mixed with Belladonna or had his throat slit?” I asked Alpha Liam.
“No, just the missing eye. We don’t autopsy our dead.” Alpha Liam informed me.
I nodded and Lilura continued. “What about the fae, have any been murdered?”
“Yes, but it’s clear a vampire did it. The blood was drained.” The Seelie king announced.
“No vampire of mine has feed from a fae!” Marcus loudly says. I put my hand on his arm.
“There is no way a human could find or kill one of us, it was definitely a vampire!” The king shouts.
I can feel Marcus tense and then the yelling begins. The Fae are accusing us, vampires. The werewolves are accusing the witches. Lilura is trying to yell over the top of everyone. None of them were willing to believe that a supernatural could be killed by a human. I notice the king’s advisor is still watching Lilura. I have had enough of the yelling and go over to Lilura and grab her hand leading her out of the yelling and back to the cars.
“Those idiots need to stop blaming each other for these deaths. We have proof it is a human. What we need to do is solve this ourselves. When you werewolf friend Kodan get here, let’s have him help us get the werewolves to let us test the body. Can you get your fae friend Tyr to help us get access to the dead fae it would be nice to finally confirm that the same human has killed them all not another supernatural? There is a human serial killer targeting supernaturals out there. We have to stop him before he kills any more of us or exposes us to the rest of the humans.” I say to Lilura.
“I agree, besides Kodan is an FBI agent he should be able to help us investigate and catch this guy.” She told me.
“FBI, that’s perfect! Okay, he said he could meet at ten tomorrow. Have him come to my office building, we will take him to the morgue and show him what we have so far.”
“Okay, sounds good. Should we go back and try and stop the arguing?” She asked.
“Probably,” I say.
