4. Who Is This Man?

1675 Words
Aryanna’s POV: My head still felt heavy and I could still feel the pain in every part of my body when I moved even the slightest, but that didn’t mean that I could take a break from my duties. Even with the way my back screamed with every movement and my fingers shook, I still had a rag in my hand wiping down the table in front of me. Most of the work was finished and I was already praying to the Goddess that I would be left alone in peace for at least an hour to catch my breath before I’ll be needed for anything else. Picking up the supplies I had just used, I made my way to the supplies room to replace them and just as I got into the space I heard voices coming from within the other door that held bleach and other chemicals that were considered harmful. My brain screamed for me to leave especially since eavesdropping always got me into trouble no matter how careful I was but a part of me wanted to find out who was in there and what they were talking about. “The summit is supposed to be the biggest one ever hosted.” The first person said and I immediately recognized the voice as Emilia one of the other maids in the house. Why was she in here? And who was she talking to? “What makes it any different?” Another voice asked and I squinted trying to recognize the new one. “Well, I heard that the meeting has been summoned by someone very superior. Or at least with all the plannings happening, it’s easy to assume it is someone superior.” “Well, I hope it all goes smoothly, the last time a summit was organized in our pack, it didn’t end very well and all the pack officials were in ridiculously terrible moods for days, so I’m not looking forward to a repeat. Do you think we should go back out and continue working? I kind of feel bad that we left Aryanna to finish the cleaning. After what she’s been through these last couple of days I don’t think she’ll be feeling good enough to clean this big house alone.” I finally recognized the voice, it belonged to Bianca and for some reason, it warmed my heart to hear the concern in her voice even when it was very little and they had purposely come to hide out in here and had left all the chores for me. “Who cares? If anything is left undone it’s not like we’re going to be punished, she’ll still get the blame. So at this point I don’t even think we should be doing anything.” Emilia responded. I wanted to sigh, but I knew I couldn’t bring any attention to myself especially since the topic of conversation had shifted to me. I didn’t need to do anything because in the next second my name was being screamed from somewhere within the house. “Told you.” Emilia said giggling along with Bianca. I exited the room, being careful to open and close the door gently behind me before making my way towards the stairs. “Aryanna!! Where’s the f*****g b***h?” I heard the Luna’s voice from just outside her room and I hurried towards her direction, not wanting to piss her off even more. “I’m here.” I announced once I was close enough, doing my best to avoid eye contact as that was the fastest and surest way to get hit by her. “Where the hell have you been? That’s all you do all day, wonder around like a zombie and then have the audacity to act like you carry the weight of the world on your back. You ungrateful piece of s**t. You get fed, you have a place to sleep but none of that even moves you to show the littlest appreciation by putting more efforts into the simplest tasks that you’re assigned. You should have been killed when they found out your greedy bastard of a father had run away with more than half the pack’s fortune. Prepare me a f*****g bath and stop looking like a damn stupid victim for once in your miserable life.” She roared before walking away. Leaving me to stand in place for a while, trying to stop the tears from falling down my eyes. I didn’t understand it at all. They usually saw me working my life away day in and out in this house, why was it so hard for them for appreciate me even a little? Why did they alway decide to make life even more miserable for me with their hurtful words? I didn’t think a thousand punches would have hurt as much as the words that Fiona had just thrown my way. I forced my legs to walk in the direction of her bathroom, not wanting to annoy her even more by standing in the hallway and crying. I twisted the knobs over the tub until the right temperature of water ran into the tub and slowly began to fill it up. I moved towards the cupboards to grab her favorite body wash and scented oils along with adding some bubbles. I watched as the water turned soapy and began producing bubbles and the heavenly scent filled the large bathroom and for a moment I thought about what it would be like to take a dip in the water. I couldn’t remember the last time I had taken a decent bath with nice scenting soaps or even oils and as I stared at the water filling before me, longing filled every part of me and the thought of just soaking in the water for just two minutes crossed my mind, but I knew that would be signing my death sentence, if Dianne ever met me in that state. The list of things she could do to me as punishment was endless. I couldn’t even rule out her killing me. Once the water was the right amount, I cut it off, dropping her loofah into the water before going back into the room. “It’s ready, Luna.” I delivered and she hummed, still tapping furiously on her phone. I took that as a dismissal and made my way out of the room. “I believe lunch should be ready soon, right Aryanna?” Dianne called just before I could completely exit the room. And even when I knew that I was yet to get started on it, I still gave her a positive response before moving completely out of the room and shutting the door behind me. I hurriedly made my way downstairs and began preparing lunch. My body was screaming for me to take a break and maybe even a nap but I knew how impossible that would be at this time. Tanya had done a good job with healing up the majority of the wounds that we had gotten from our most recent punishment but without the right medicine and rest there was just nothing she could do about the constant aches that plagued my body. Even when there are several other maids loitering around the kitchen, none of them offered to help me put lunch together, instead they clustered together in different corners and just gossiped. It wasn’t anything I wasn’t used to but I knew at this point how important it would be to get a little help. I could already see circles dancing in front of my eyes. One thing kept me awake and kept my attention though. The talk of the summit, it seemed to be the only thing everyone was talking about and the excitement that seemed to be going around from the discussions was enough to keep me interested. Who was this superior Alpha that was supposed to show up soon? I didn’t know that a person like that existed and from everything that I was able to gather. He was cold and ruthless but fair, so the stories said. I rushed through the rest of lunch when I checked the time to see that I was falling behind and once I was done the rest of the maids helped with taking them out to serve in the dining room. It hurt that I had made lunch myself and they got to take most of the glory and be praised while I was, like always, insulted and degraded, called every foul name to ever exist, but I swallowed it all and did what I had to do. Soon enough though, the topic of discussion around the table moved to talk about the upcoming summit. At this point, the best part of the news was the fact that everybody would be gone for most part of the day and I would be left alone. There was nothing in this world that excited me more than that. The thought that I could sleep properly for more than just a couple of minutes during the day without worrying about a belt waking me up was pure bliss for me. Thankfully, as everyone settled to eat lunch, I had the time to hide out in my room and eat and maybe I might even be allowed to rest until it was time to make dinner. And as I settled to eat in my room, I let my thoughts wonder. Who really was this man that was supposed to be at the summit? What made him so important and feared? What did he look like? Or even smell like? At this point, I couldn’t even control the thoughts that went in and out of my head and so I just allowed them all roll around within the space, but one thing was for sure, I was getting excited for this summit too. Sadly, I knew I wouldn’t be allowed to attend the event, or even leave the house but it didn’t diminish the excitement that I felt.
