Chapter 4 : Phoenix

708 Words
As the Elite army storms pass us, Grey encircles me in his embrace. I am tightly squeezed to his chess and I smell the forest, that is so Greyson. I feel so safe and warm in his embrace. Grey gently pulls me away,  and while still holding me, scans his eyes over my body, to check for any injuries. He cups my face in his big rough hands and looks intently into my eyes. His eyes, deep blue, swirls with emotion, as his intent stare pulls me deep into his gaze. Grey bends down and plants a kiss on my head while saying "Rose we have to go. The wolf ran towards your home , let's go make sure that your Farther is unharmed!  We hurry home, to make sure Farther is not harmed.  I storm into the house and see that Father sits at the table, ever so eloquently, sipping on his afternoon brew of coffee. Alarmed he looks up when he sees my disheveled look. Out of breath, I tell him about the wolf that was running around in our village and that the Elite soldiers are here are in our village!              Father's face turns white as ash and the mug falls from his hand, spilling coffee all over the floor. I run to fathers side, he is scarring me. Father is always composed and in control. I've never seen him like this, not even after mother's death. "Father, you're scarring me", I say softly as I look at him with questioning eyes. "Are you scared of the Elite?" I ask in a gentle tone. The Elite has never set foot in our village! Their presence in our village is huge but heavily overshadowed, by the vicious huge black beast of a wolf.            A curtain falls over his eyes, hiding his unease and panic, as he turns back, into the father, I know. He smiles and tells me not to worry. He tells me that I should not go out for the rest of the evening and that we will celebrate my birthday in  the privacy of our back lawn. To say that I was disappointed, when Father said that I won't be going to the Village coming of age celebrations, is an understatement, for the level of disappointment I felt, when hearing those words! No more meeting all the eligible suitors! No meeting my my possible mate, my inamorata!             At least Father asked Grey to stay with me as he went around the village to gather our neighbours and my friends to celebrate my birthday and hopefully the day can still end on a good note! I take off my pelisse and drag Grey to the shed to have a look at the dead bird. We were so surprised because the bird was not burned anymore but has a beautiful orange colour. I take one of moms bird books and see that the bird, resembles a phoenix! I know that is impossible as I read in the book that these birds have died out and is no longer in existence!         I stroke the feathers of the bird and it feels velvety and smooth. If Grey and Father did not see the same dead, burned bird, I would have thought that I am going crazy!          Some of my friends finally arrive and place a white flower crown on my head. We dance and sing the night away around a bonfire and enjoy each other's company, totally forgetting about the ominous big, bad, black, scary wolf and the Elites who came into our little village today!            Although disappointed that I did not get my big proposal from my inamorata, nor my first kiss, my day was extraordinary perfect. As I look around, my heart is filled with so much love and joy as I see how Father, Greyson and my friends are dancing and singing, celebrating my special day. Although I found out that I was adopted, I know I am loved.          Don't forget, I did get a tattoo that comes to light upon my touch and a Phoenix bird who was dead but now seems to be alive? I've got Father, Grey and Lilly. What more can a girl ask for, maybe a big bad wolf!
