Lily
The morning sun peeked through the curtains, its warm rays falling on my face. I slowly opened my eyes before staring blankly at the unfamiliar ceiling above me. It took me a few moments to remember where I was.
I wasn't in Alpha Caspian's room anymore. I was in the guest room.
A strange emptiness settled inside my chest as I looked around. This room was beautiful and comfortable, yet it lacked something that the previous room had. His scent. I sighed and shook my head.
"What are you even thinking, Lily?" I whispered to myself.
"He doesn't want you. Stop making your own heart suffer."
Pushing the blanket aside, I got out of bed and walked towards the bathroom. After taking a warm shower, I changed into a simple light-blue dress that one of the omegas had neatly placed on the chair.
I stood in front of the mirror for a brief moment.
"You promised Athea," I reminded myself softly.
"You won't let anyone decide your worth."
Taking a deep breath, I left the room. The hallway was quiet at this hour. A few omegas were busy dusting the furniture while others carried trays filled with fresh flowers.
The moment they saw me, they stopped and bowed politely.
"Good morning, Lady Lily." I smiled awkwardly.
"Good morning."
"You really don't have to call me Lady." One of the older omegas smiled kindly.
"We would get scolded if we didn't." My brows drew together.
"Scolded?" i asked in confusion. She nodded.
"Alpha's orders."
Before I could ask another question, Meredith's cheerful voice echoed through the hallway.
"There you are!"
She came running towards me with Athea following behind her.
"I've been looking everywhere for you," Meredith complained dramatically.
"I was only in my room," I replied, unable to stop the small smile from appearing.
"Exactly! You've been hiding," she said as she grabbed my wrist before I could protest.
"Come on."
"Where?" I asked.
"I'm showing you our home."
"Our home..." i trailed off, staring at her blankly.
The words slipped from her mouth so naturally that my steps faltered. She looked back at me and smiled.
"Well... at least until you remember yours."
Something warm settled inside my heart. No one here was forcing me to leave. No one looked at me with disgust. No one called me a burden.
For the first time since I had lost my memories. I felt like I belonged somewhere.
The three of us walked through the gardens surrounding the mansion. Colorful flowers bloomed on either side of the stone pathway while butterflies fluttered from one blossom to another.
Children ran across the open fields laughing happily.
Several pack members greeted Meredith and Athea before smiling warmly at me.
"Everyone seems... happy," I said quietly.
"They are," Athea replied.
"Our Alpha works very hard for this pack," added, looking around. Meredith nodded proudly.
"He never lets anyone go hungry," she said.
"And every orphan in the territory is raised by the pack." I stopped walking.
"Really?" i asked in astonishment.
"Of course," she replied. Meredith looked confused by my reaction.
"No child here grows up alone," Meredith said. A strange pain squeezed my chest. I didn't know why. Maybe...
Because somewhere deep inside, my heart wished someone had once said those words to me.
Before I could lose myself in those thoughts, Meredith pointed ahead excitedly.
"There!"
"The training grounds," she said excitedly.
Dozens of warriors trained under the bright morning sun.
The loud clash of swords echoed through the air while others practiced hand-to-hand combat. Damien noticed us first.
"Lily." he called my name as he walked over with a smile.
"How are you feeling today?" he asked.
"I am much better," i replied. i felt really good honestly.
"Good."
"You healed surprisingly fast," he said, looking at my arm where there should be a deep cut. but my skin looks flawless.
"I heard," i said as I smiled sheepishly.
"Maria seems just as confused as I am," i added, Damien chuckled.
"She'll figure it out."
Just then, every warrior on the field suddenly straightened.
"Alpha."
Their voices echoed together. My heartbeat skipped. I slowly turned around.
Caspian was walking towards us wearing black training clothes. His sleeves were rolled up, revealing toned forearms covered with faint old scars.
His expression remained calm. Cold, Unreadable. For a brief second. His green eyes met mine.
The world around me seemed to disappear. Neither of us spoke. Neither of us moved. Then he looked away first.
"Continue."
His deep voice broke the silence. The warriors immediately resumed training.
He walked towards Damien without sparing me another glance. Something inside my chest ached.
Meredith looked between the two of us before quietly clearing her throat.
"I'll... go help Carl."
She grabbed Athea's hand and disappeared before I could stop them.
Only Caspian and I remained standing a few feet apart.
He kept his attention on the warriors, pretending I wasn't there. I lowered my head.
"I'll leave."
Just as I turned around, my foot caught a loose stone hidden beneath the grass. I gasped.
Before I could hit the ground, a strong arm wrapped securely around my waist.
My body collided against a hard chest. Warmth surrounded me instantly. My breath caught.
Caspian's hand remained firmly around my waist while my palms rested against his chest.
For one suspended moment. Neither of us moved. His heartbeat echoed beneath my fingertips. Strong and steady.
His scent surrounded me, making my wolfless heart calm in a way I couldn't explain.
Slowly, I lifted my head. Our faces were only inches apart.
His emerald eyes searched mine with an intensity that stole every coherent thought from my mind. I saw his jaw tighten.
His fingers instinctively tightened around my waist before he seemed to realize what he was doing. He immediately stepped back.
"You should watch where you're going," he said, his voice returning to its usual coldness.
"I... i couldn't form words.
"Thank you," i said, bowing my head slightly. He gave a single nod.
"You are still recovering," His words sounded formal.
As though he hadn't been the one holding me so carefully only seconds ago.
Without another word, he turned around and walked away.
I watched his retreating back until he disappeared into the crowd of warriors. A soft sigh escaped my lips.
"He says he doesn't want me..." I whispered to myself.
"So why do I feel like his heart is saying something completely different?"
