The moment we entered the forest, I felt something change.
The air became colder, and the familiar trees seemed to close around us as if they were hiding something. Caspian walked beside me with Damien and a few warriors behind us, but I barely noticed them because Maya had become unusually alert inside my head.
“That voice came from here,” Maya said.
“I know,” I whispered. Caspian glanced at me.
“Did Maya say something?”
“She says this place feels familiar,” I answered. He moved closer to me.
“Do you remember coming here?” I shook my head.
“Not exactly. It feels like I should remember, but every time I try, my mind goes blank.”
We continued deeper into the forest until I suddenly stopped. My eyes landed on a large oak tree. Something about it made my chest tighten.
