The ride back from the council estate was silent, but it wasn't an uncomfortable silence. I sat beside Caspian in the back seat, staring through the window as the lights of the city slowly disappeared behind us. My mind was still trying to process everything that had happened tonight. I had walked into the ball not knowing who I was, and I had walked out remembering almost everything I had spent days trying to recover.
I remembered Blue Heaven. I remembered David and Sara taking me in after my parents died.
I remembered growing up in a place that never truly felt like home. I remembered Veronica's cruelty.
I remembered Ben and his family being some of the only people who treated me like I mattered. And I remembered Louise.
