Months passed across the ocean, and Diya completed her final university examinations. Over time, her resistance had crumbled completely, replaced by the exact same intense longing Kamlesh held for her.
When she finally returned home, Shanaya secretly brought over Kamlesh's sketchbook to show her. Flipping through the detailed, loving illustrations, Diya’s eyes filled with tears of profound joy and deep remorse.
Her guilt intensified when Shanaya revealed that Kamlesh had recently embarked on a grueling, bare-footed spiritual pilgrimage to a remote holy site to pray for their future.
Shanaya added that he was expected back the following morning.Unable to sleep, Diya spent the entire night pacing her room, reflecting on their volatile history, her
harsh rejections, and the undeniable transformation of her own heart.
At dawn, she dressed hurriedly and walked briskly toward Kamlesh's neighborhood, eager to finally confess her love.As she neared his street, she noticed a large, solemn crowd gathered in the roadway.
Pushing through the onlookers to see what was happening, she discovered a police perimeter surrounding a covered corpse.
Horrified, she asked a bystander what had occurred. "A young young man returning from a barefoot pilgrimage lost his way in the dense forest fog," the neighbor explained grimly. "He was ambushed by
wild animals; his body was tragically mauled past recognition." A cold dread gripped Diya's chest.
Step by step, she approached the responding officers and asked to see the victim's recovered personal belongings. The officer held out a plastic evidence bag containing a wristwatch and a leather wallet. Diya took the wallet with trembling hands.
Opening the billfold, she looked down into the clear plastic slot; staring back at her was the small, faded passport-sized
photograph of herself.
Tears streamed down her face as the grim reality shattered her world. Her family members, who had followed her to the scene, surrounded her and began asking questions, but she was entirely paralyzed by grief. As she cried, she noticed a small, handwritten inscription on the back of the
photograph tucked inside the wallet.
Pulling it out, she read Kamlesh's final words:
“Dear Diya, I know you worry about the distance of my journey, but do not lose heart. I carry an unwavering hope within me that by the time my journey finally ends, you will be in love with me. - Yours lovingly, Kamlesh.”
That night, staring out into the dark, Diya finally understood the tragic, inexplicable nature of destiny. She asked herself the unanswerable questions that would haunt her forever:
Why did he enter my life?
What made him fall so deeply for me?
What forced me to think of him, and why did I ultimately fall for him?
Why is there no logical explanation for this series of events?
Looking at the sketchbook left behind, Diya found her only answer: the truth behind every mystery is love, and love answers to no one.......
