The sun burns my skin violently as I run continuously around the track. But that's kind of the only thing bothering me, even though I've been running for hours.
"How you're not getting tired?" Sammy asks through heavy heaved breaths. I look at his red face, beady with sweat drops and his curly hair matted against his forehead. I lift my shoulders, not knowing what to say.
"You're not even breathing hard?" his voice breaks each time to gulp some soothing air.
"Okay so remember the time I told you I get a new superpower like, each month." I squint my eyes from the sun to look at him.
He smirks at me, "Yeah right."
I ignore his comment, "Well this month I guess it's not getting tired."
He widens his eyes, and I hear his breathing stop for a few seconds. He let his head drop, when we come behind the finish line.
"Good job today Leelah." Coach Rick says, staring at me intently. I almost want to laugh at eveyone's freaked out faces but rather pinch my cheeks to make it red, and I fake hard breathing.
Sammy looks at me from under his lashes as he tries to catch his breathing, knowing what I just did.
"How is it possible?"
"What?" I ask.
"You not getting tired."
I see my dad's car waiting behind the fence as I throw my bag over my shoulders.
"I told you, it's a superpower." I say, trying to hold in my laugh at him scratching his head, confused.
He shakes his head as if to throw of the confusion, "Come to the ball tomorrow."
I stop and almost feel a rush of excitement running through every inch of my body when I remember, my parents.
"As if my parents will let me." I state, rolling my eyes.
"I'll let my mom talk to them." he says with ease. I sigh and look at his vibrant grey eyes. Why does he want me to go to the ball?
"Are you asking me to go with you?" I ask, eyeing my dad's car as we walk towards the gate.
"No I just want you there." I feel somewhat relieved and also let down at his words.
"I'll text you." I say quickly, putting my back in the open boot of my dad's car.
"Hi Mr. Lane." Sammy adjust his voice deeper to sound more decent.
"Hi son, how're you're doing today?" my dad's voice booms with friendliness. Sammy is the only guy my dad will ever be friendly with as he's been my friend since primary school and he literally broke down all my dad's walls of overprotectiveness with his golden charms.
"I'm doing alright sir," he emphasizes his 'alright' and I roll my eyes, "and you, sir?"
I open the passenger door and flop down on my seat, not concentrating on their conversation anymore.
I stare at the dark clouds, overtaking the sun's light all of a sudden and with a loud boom of thunder, I yerk in my seat.
"Better get going." my dad says, starting the engine and taking off. I wave at Sammy and show him my middle finger when my dad doesn't look.
"How was school today?" he asks, keeping his eyes on the road.
"Good." I say and examine my nails. The rest of the ride erupts in the sound of silence.
When we arrive at home, my mom stands on the porch with her hands on her hips. Her blonde noodle hair that I inherited, is in a messy bun on top of her head. She usually takes the time to straighten it or get it straight in ways that I don't even know of.
"Hey mom." I call, climbing out of thr car. I grab my bag and March towards her petite figure.
"Hi honey." she hugs me tightly and wisps of her rosy scent enters my nose and I immediately feel at home. She greets dad as well and I run to Zayn's, my older brother's room.
"I found out what this month's power is." I say excitedly and barge into his room. I shrill yell, erupt his room and my heart almost explodes when I see a girl, with slicky dark hair and big blue eyes on top of Zayn. I immediately turn around when realization hit me.
"Liza?" my eyes scan the scenery. Liza my best friend is on top of my brother. Naked.
She jumps of off him, pulling the blankets with her, leaving my brother grabbing his crotch, before I could see it and hunch on the side of his bed.
I feel heat rush to my face and rage explode inside my veins. What. The. Hell.
My best friend is busy having s*x with my brother. My stupid older brother. I know Liza sleeps around alot, but I never thought she would go so far. I look at her face, red and full of shame.
"Slut." I yell, shutting the door with force and stomping to my room. I let myself fall on my bed, wanting to destroy every little piece of furniture in it but instead I cry. I couldn't believe that Liza would sleep with Zayn. Out of all the people in the world she would sleep with the dumbest, dorkiest boy ever. All thing Zayn is good at is hockey with absolutely no braincells.
And I'm sure there's somewhere some kind of best friens code, to not have something on with best friends siblings. What is wrong with her.
"Leelah." her voice invades my thoughts and I look at her through my teary eyes to see her crying as well.
I stay quite and she slowly creeps nearer, now wearing a black t-shirt and jean shorts.
"I didn't want this to happen." she flops down, next to me.
I look at her unbelievably, "You didn't want this to happen?" I pull myself of off the bed, "then why did it happen?"
"I don't know?" she throw her hands in the air.
"You don't know?"
