I

1045 Words
My mind keeps going back to Tobias and how he teached me something completely new that I never thought I could do.  Turn invisible.  Turn things invisible.  I look at mom, busy folding clothes.  I go to the newly found bubble in my mind, my mind directed at her.  I smile when I turn her body invisible for a split second. When she turns and sees me smiling her expression turns into a confused frown. “What?” “Nothing.” I say, trying to hold in my building chuckle, making beads of sweat appear on my forehead. She shakes her head and continues folding clothes.  She seems down. “What’s wrong mom?” I take a few small steps towards her, craning my neck, trying to see her face. “Nothing.”  She replies quietly and I roll my eyes, knowing she’s lying. “Don’t lie.” I say, standing next to her, resting my hands on the table. “Were you alone with Blake?”  She throws the piece of cloth in front of her, bursting from holding her tongue too long. I see her face turn a scarlet red and I feel mine turning white.   I swallow, not having an immediate comeback and I try my best not to look guilty. “Yes, we went to look at a sound we heard.”  I say, trying to come up with something she would fall for. I look strictly at her eyes, not knowing what else to do. “What did you hear?” She asks, widening her eyes, as if she doesn’t believe what I’m saying. “A screaming noise.”  I lie, hoping with everything in me that she believes me. “A screaming noise?” “Yeah, it was a rabbit.” I say, but widen my eyes.  Why am I so stupid?  How on earth is she going to believe this? “A rabbit?” She asks with much suspicion in her voice. “Yes.” My voice is high and squeaky and I know I’m not hiding my guilt as I should. “What happened?” Okay, now I have to come up with something that would flow.  Something that she would believe. I bite my lips, but quickly stop when I realize this would not help my situation. “He was stuck under a big tree stomp.  Blake said the tree must have fallen on him or something.”  I say, hoping this will do it. “Oh, poor thing.” She says, not giving much thought to it. I quietly blow out a breath feeling relieved. She fell for it.  I briefly close my eyes and walk towards the bathroom.  I have to wash myself. I smile when I see the wooden bucket already full with clean water. I undress and climb in the bucket.  I scrub my feet with force and splash all over my body with rose essential oils. When I’m done, I climb out and dry myself when I hear my mom scream.  Am I having deja vu? Still naked, I rush out of the bathroom, towards the kitchen to see Blake/Tobias standing in the kitchen. I scream and quickly try to cover my body. “Get out!” I scream when his eyes scan down my body but he quickly turns around.  I swallow and look at mom, who’s looking between us with wide eyes.  I burst out laughing, looking at mom. “What happened?” I ask. When Blake/Tobias wants to turn back around I shoo him back with my quick voice. “There was a bird in the house?” She says casually. I laugh.  “And it frightened you?” I ask putting my hands on my hips. “Yes.” She swallows, her eyes still wide. “And you came in?” I ask, looking at Blake/Tobias still with his back facing me. “Yeah.” He lifts his shoulders, turning his head sideways, but quickly turns it back around when I squeal. “Wow, you’re fast.” I say, chuckle, with a hint that I know something that mom doesn’t, and I can tell that he’s getting it.  He’s not actually Blake. His something more powerful.  And I still want to unravel his secrets.  I still want to find out everything about him. “Yes, good boy.” mom says and I smile lightly at her words. “Okay, well you can go out now.”  I say in an obvious manner. He nods and walks out. “He was fast.” Mom states, agreeing with me. I nod and walk to my room, wondering if mom is anyhow suspicious.  I swipe the thoughts out of my mind and put on a knee length cotton dress and fall on the bed, my long hair hitting me in my face. I  laugh at myself, thinking that I should cut my hair.   My eyes widen when I remember the book. “The book.” I whisper yell, almost falling from my bed.  I bite my lips, reaching below my bed until my hand touches it.  I grip it firmly, until it’s on my lap.  I’m not able to keep it invisible when I’m not around it, so that’s why I’m hiding it under the bed. I know there must be a way to keep it invisible when I’m not around, but I wasn’t in the mood to think so hard. I take a deep breath and open the book, seeing hard to read scribbles.  Okay.  Here I begin.  With my eyebrows knitted together I start reading but get interrupted with a movement in my window.  I jerk my head to see Blake/Tobias watching me from under his eyes, his hands in the pockets of his pants. “What?” I yell, feeling irritation brewing in my stomach. “You shouldn’t let anyone see that.” He gestures to the book in my hands.   I bite my lips and raise my one eyebrow at him. “Yeah, whatever.” I say, not making any move or effort to turn the book invisible. I suck in my cheeks, waiting for him to walk away. After a minute he gives up and walks away.  Satisfied with myself I smile and start reading.
