14 It was stranger than strange to be in this house that had once belonged to Randall’s birth mother, going through the items she’d left behind. However, he was the heir to all this, and so Joanna supposed he had every right to undertake a search of the premises. Also, she had a feeling that he wanted her at his side while he performed what amounted to an inventory of everything he’d inherited. He hadn’t said so out loud, but she got the impression that he was still a little off-balance from this turn of events, and so it helped to have a familiar face nearby as he came to terms with such a sudden change in his fortunes.
