As he drove out to Joanna’s house, the bright morning sun shining right in his face, Randall wondered if he’d lost his damn mind. Right then, that seemed like the most likely explanation for his behavior.
Because any sane man would have recognized his attraction to Joanna Wilcox for what it was, and found a convenient excuse to back out and let Jasper help her finish the rest of the fence-repair project. He couldn’t allow himself to get involved with her. It was way too risky.
Or at least, Randall wanted to believe there was some level of risk involved, because that way, he could back out without feeling as if he’d done something wrong. Better that than acknowledge she’d somehow managed to slip into his heart and occupy a space there he hadn’t even known existed.
