7 Joanna glanced at the clock again. A quarter to three. Randall had said he’d be back in a few hours, and he’d left a little before eleven. In her mind, “a few hours” meant he should have returned no later than one or one-thirty, but maybe that was her own fault for not setting an exact time. But she didn’t think any dictionary in the world would define “a few” as four hours. She sat in her office, phone in hand, and kept staring down at Randall’s entry in her contacts list. The logical thing to do would be to call him and make sure everything was okay. It was entirely possible that he’d gotten hung up doing something, although what that something might be, she had no idea.
