I awaited their reaction but all I got was an "Okay" from each of them, my head snapped towards them in shock
"Guys am being serious here see " I flashed them my fangs before concealing it again,
"We already know Harper, and if you wanted to hurt us u would have done it long ago" Layla said as she strapped on her bag ,
I turned to Sadie with the look that screams, 'betrayal'
"Don't give me that look, I have more important things to do than to snitch" she shrugged nonchalantly,
Merlinda giggled a little and raised her hand as if wanting to answer a question,
"I actually did, it's not entirely my fault, you were the one who let your guard down sometime ago,and I couldn't keep it to myself,
I rolled my eyes and turned to the others,
"Thank you guys for accepting me even when I lied"
"I have classes, you guys can remain here being stupidly emotional," Sadie said and walked away,
CHLOE,
It's weird how I couldn't sense her true self but had to be told, am I lacking anywhere, I was surprised hearing it from Merlinda. At first I just thought it will be one of her silly jokes but it turned out to be true,
And Sadie she doesn't seem to even be working towards the upcoming ascension, has she given up on the throne already, were they right calling her a weakling... series of questions left unanswered, maybe I gotta take things I to my own hands, I smirked staring at Sadie's back,
We had a break and other had their plans, Sadie to the old library, Harper followed her, Ayla and Layla went home to pick up something, it was left with me and Merlinda,
"What do you wanna do" she asked smiling as usual, her smile felt so magnetic,
"Sit and watch losers" I said half heartedly,
"Don't be a bore come on" she pulled me up and dragged me to Lucifer knows where,
I was only looking at our joined hands when she stopped,
I looked around only to find myself in the library,my face showed nothing but my eyes carried disappointment, but wait where was I expecting her to take me,
"A library seriously" I asked
"I just wanted to read some human romantic stuffs", she purred with bright eyes, she had no idea how seductive she sounds right now,
"Okay, go on, pick any book you want to read" I crossed my arms and leaned against the shelve,
She walked to a shelve and climbed the ladder, she was about to pick a book when the ladder swayed a little causing her to loose her balance falling,
It didn't take me a second to wrap my hands around her waist pulling her flush against me, she gasped,
She's pretty,I looked her in the eyes before subtly shifting my gaze to her lips, she noticed and shifted uncomfortably,
"Oh sorry," I apologized lifting her up
"No it's fine, thank you" she. said tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear,
I smiled, she has no idea how cute she is right now, I wanted to reach for her again when we were interrupted by a cough and a slight shift in the atmosphere,
"Hey..guys" a soft almost inaudible voice called out, Merlinda was the first to turn,
"I know you don't know me,uhmm I..I mean, am Nara, I really admire everyone in your group, like you guys are smart, typical beauty with brains and I don't if I could hang out with you guys a little, you know to help step up my grades cause am really lacking behind " she said sweetly but I saw beneath the practiced innocence, something I couldn't name but knew it was they,
Merlinda looked at me then I knew she sensed it too, she ignored it walking to her or maybe she just wanted to get away from me after what happened,
HARPER
I stood in the middle of the clearing trying hard to unlock the ancestral code of vampire power, several chants, weak incompletes formation of the pattern,
Sadie just sat down leisurely in front of me but far enough to not interrupt, she calmly sipped her juice, a sharp contrast to what I was doing, it might look like just some normal hand throwing and talking, but it was draining a lot of my energy and I feel like am collapsing, this was my number five failed attempt while Sadie watched, and I won't be blacking out for the third time so Sadie can have opportunities to mock me,
"Memoria sepulta, surge et vide, Quod asconditum est, ostende mihi" I screamed blood rushing out of my nose as I stood in a defensive pose being pushed back by an unseen force, a loud c***k and the star like pattern began tearing open,
I looked at Sadie triumphantly and she just roll eyes, the tiny moment of distraction enough for me to be thrown across the space, landing in an empty bookshelf crashing down with it, the patterns closed back and disappeared followed by Sadie annoying laugh as she spun a little stick she had picked up,
I sat up glaring at her. "not again" I groaned
"Your ancestors are so proud of you Harper, bravo" she said sarcastically,
"Shut up" I stood up my back aching, "this is certainly not fair, you should have helped me"
"Help you have some stamina or help you fly more father away" her voice had a full blown sarcasm that infuriated me,
"Don't worry, your parents are probably lighting hell with their smiles" she chuckled,of course she will mock me till am left with nothing to hold on to
"Am leaving," I said matching to the door,
"But you haven't succeeded in anything yet, sorry I meant you have been passing everything with too much ease" she teased,
"Stop, am just too drained today,so I couldn't perform the chant well"
"Sure you are" she checked her time and it was time for our next class,
"You are lucky today" she said and stood up walking out,
When I stepped out I sensed something, someone was eavesdropping, I turned to the side and saw a little particle of shadow smoke, it was here,
I looked at Sadie who was just strolling away ignorantly like she doesn't feel a thing,
"Sad..." I wanted to call but all she said was " don't bother me over petty things like a shadow"
So she knew, I wanted to protest further when a flying leaf brush past my cheek scratching me a little before flying towards Sadie's back,
Wanting to play hero I dived to catch it, but Sadie was faster, she didn't even turn back but the leaf was caught between her fingers still behind her, she rubbed it a little and looked up smirking,
"It's her" she muttered
