Way below his league

Gia I lingered outside our apartment’s door—more like his— for a minute too long. I heard nothing. No sign of Mitch. He must be buried with office work. No sign of Vivienne, either. Perfect. I had all the time to pack, probably linger at his doorway and allow the emotions to wrack through me as I reminisced about all the happy moments we shared in the past before Maverick came in between us. I entered the passcode, took one step inside the house, and as a grunt reached my ears, I suddenly regretted that I ever did. Vivienne bounced on Mitch’s c**k, his face buried between her boobs as his hands spread her ass-cheeks. Something strange burned in my chest, her moans getting louder as she threw her head back and locked eyes with me. A slow dangerous smile curled her lips as her finger traced his jaw. “Tell me, baby. Have you ever been in love with anyone the way you love me?” A strange light hits his brown eyes. “No,” Vivienne laughed softly. “Have you ever been in love with Gia,” “Hell no! Gia is only a friend. You mean much more to me than her. You are my addiction. My poison,” “Aww—” she fake-crooned. “Prove it. Show me how much love you have for me by f*****g me harder,” “Right away, ma’am,” he captured her mouth possessively and rammed into her from under mercilessly. A scoff almost escaped me. I had no idea why I had to subject my eyes to this torture. Honestly, I wasn't even shocked. It was nothing new to me. I’d lost count of how many times I’d walked in on them having s*x. If it wasn't happening in the kitchen with her head buried into the washing machine while he slammed into her from behind, then it was happening on the kitchen aisle or on the couch. The price I paid for not paying rent. I tore my gaze from the eyesore, and as I hurried past them, his eyes met mine and widened. He pushed Vivienne away. “f**k, Gia! When did you get here,” I didn't wait. Didn't respond either—just rushed to the hallway and before I could reach my room, Vivienne’s voice made my steps falter. “Gia!” Her voice dripped with fake sweetness as she panted, reeking of Mitch and s*x. I threw her a glance over my shoulder and arched a brow as she inched closer. Then I noticed the shirt she was wearing. The same one I bought him last fall. “I’m sorry you had to walk in and see that. It must have been annoying. But since we got engaged, we can't seem to get our hands off each other. We’ve been doing it everywhere—” I cut in. “I didn't ask,” Vivienne lifted her chin. “Sure. I’m just trying to make you see why you need to move out. To avoid situations like this in the future.” “I know and I’m here to move my things,” “Cool,” she gave me a saccharine smile. From the peripheral of my vision, Mitch appeared and my breathing almost hitched. His abs were slick with sweat as he threw on a shirt, his hair tousled and it took a lot of restraint not to fix my focus on him. I swallowed, nerves tightening in my stomach as Vivienne continued. “Also, since you’ve been gone for two weeks. You need to pay your share of the rent. I covered it for you and I need my money back,” I raised a brow. “Excuse me?” I darted my eyes to Mitch in disbelief, his brows knitting as his gaze moved to Vivienne quickly. “What are you talking about, baby? She already covers the groceries, water, and electricity bill, and—” One sharp glare from Vivienne was all it took for him to clamp his mouth shut. His hand moved to the back of his neck. “G-Gia,” he stuttered. “Yeah, you need to pay rent,” I looked from him to Vivienne, then huffed. “Got it. I’ll wire the money before nightfall,” With that, I took one final glance at Mitch and went into my room. Surprisingly, it was still the way I left. The books were still stacked. The bed was perfectly made. Vivienne hadn't gone through my things, either. Thankfully, they both had the decency to keep their s*x life out of my room. I heaved out an exasperated sigh, collapsing on the bed while staring at the ceiling and into absolute nothing. It was not like I expected him to even stand up for me. It would be nice for him to. But whenever Vivienne was around, he always lost his senses. A knock sounded on the door and I knew it was him. I moved from the bed, as the door creaked open, his eyes following me around as I crossed the room and pulled the suitcases sitting in a corner. “I’m sorry for what happened that night. I shouldn't have gone off on you. I was just so triggered that—” he paused, and breathed. “It’s okay,” I shrugged, like it was nothing. “I have to get used to being blocked by the man who's supposed to be my closest friend. s**t happens,” “No, Gia. Please don't take it like that,” his voice dipped low and my heart did that stupid flutter it always did whenever he was around. “I wasn't thinking,” “For two weeks,” His face fell as I hurled the suitcase onto the bed, a confused look crossing his face. I opened the wardrobe, grabbed a handful of clothes, and dumped them inside. “I know. I’m so horrible, I—” he trailed. “Wait. Where are you going? Why are you packing? Are you going on a trip,” I paused mid-way with the clothes in my hands, shooting him a look. Was he always this clueless? “Mitch. Your fiancèe sent me a text—telling me to move out of the apartment because she is moving in. And I’m doing just that. Plus you two are getting married. You both need space,” “What!” he blurted, pushing away from the wall. “I know I asked her to move in but I never asked her to tell you to leave!” I gave him a blank stare. “Seriously?” Drawers opened and shut as I emptied them into my suitcase while he remained in the same spot, his mind still reeling. For a long moment, he said nothing. “If Vivienne said that, then it’s probably for the best. I’ll miss living with you, Gia,” he finally said, resignation coated heavily in his voice. “Yeah—” He let out a deep sigh. “You know, I’ve been thinking about that night a lot,” he dragged a chair out, sat on it and I could feel the weight of his burning stare. “And I have concluded that everything that happened that night was a lie. Maverick was lying. Viv thinks something is off too,” I froze for a second, before slowly whipping my head to him as a thousand nameless emotions flared alive in my chest. I knew he would see through me. He was my best-friend after-all. The only one who understood me when no one else did. “What?” His eyes teetered up to mine. “I don't believe that you are my brother’s girlfriend,” “Why?” Tears burned the back of my eyes. “I don’t mean this in a bad way, but you’re completely way below the league of girls he usually goes for. I’m honestly having a hard time believing you two are dating, let alone that you’ve been together for this long,” Everything that made me feel alive a second ago died. My smile too. “Did you just imply that I can't pull Maverick Delwanosky?” Anger flared within me. Mitch nodded casually. “Yes. He doesn't go for girls like you. I just don't know how you both ended up together that day,” My mouth hung open as I looked at him in pure disbelief. “Gia,” he had the nerve to call my name with extra softness. “If you’re that desperate for a boyfriend, I can set you up with someone from work. Remember Aiden? That quirky nerd? He’s recently divorced. A single dad, too. You love kids, so I think you two could be a perfect match.” “Clumsy chatty Aiden?” My face twisted with barely-concealed rage. “Yes. I have shown him your picture several times and you need to see the way his eyes light up whenever I mention you. It’s beautiful Gia,” Pressure ballooned in my chest so hard that I could barely breathe, a tear sliding down my cheeks before I could stop it. Mitch sat upright, his eyes softening. “G-Gia,” he whispered. “You are crying,” “f**k you, Mitch. f**k you!” To hell with Mitch. I’d spent the entire day worrying about him, terrified of what my decision might cost him. After that call with Oona, I’d even considered disappearing to another state, just so I wouldn’t stand in the way of him having a better life. And he dared to tell me he wanted to set me up with Aiden. The same Aiden he was always belittling. Mitch had spoken so poorly of him so many times that I’d never even met the man, yet somehow, I already disliked him. Fuck Mitch. Again. Sniffling loudly, I wiped the tears away from my eyes, sucking in a deep, calming breath while silencing my phone so that Mitch would stop blowing up with his calls. He finally unblocked me. I input the pass-code that hummed in my head all day long. “2.9.8.6” Maverick’s penthouse. The door opened with a click and the sight that welcomed me was fantastic. Truly. Louboutin heels at the entrance, Chanel purse on the marbled floor, and a white thong lying a few feet away from me.
