CHAPTER 12- DANGER

GRACE

Nelson arrived really late yesterday. I was hoping Miller would be coming with him, but it was just Nelson. In the morning I passed through the bunk bed as quiet as always and started to make some omelets for breakfast. Now I knew how they liked their omelets, Sabrina with cheese, mushrooms and onion. Kevin, cheese but not too much, mushrooms and bacon. Nelson preferred green peppers, cheese and tomato. As I finished the plates Sabrina sat in the table and looked at me.

    -Don’t worry, Zac is not mad with you. He just has many things in his head and lot of work.

I have never been the party soul, but I don't know why is that hard for me to connect with Miller. Kevin and Sabrina were natural to me. Nelson was harder, but with time I started to learn how did he behave and the interactions turned easier. But Miller, when I think I know something, he changes completely, its unpredictable. speaking about Nelson, he appeared in the kitchen in his pajamas.

    -I missed this breakfasts.

Nelson sat on the table and grab Kevin’s omelet. He bit it and then pushed the plate, and looked at me.

    -That one wasn’t mine, right?

    -No that one is Kevin's, the one on the left is yours.

He grab the right plate and eat. Kevin arrived with just a towel on. I rolled my eyes.He sat on the table, and I decided to wash the pan, just in case the purrs come back.

    -Who bit my omelet?

-I did, and it's not that good as mine.

Nelson said with a big smile. Even though they don’t admitted it I know that they miss each other when they are apart. They have a lot of fun together, always fighting like brothers. “Did Nelson was from the same place as Kevin?” Sabrina make me a sign to join them, so I also sat and started to eat. I looked at Nelson.

    -Nelson, did you came from the same place as Kevin?

    -The same place?

    -No, he is from Aegean Moon, that's why he is so boring.

    -Shut up Kevin! But yes, all my family has always been from Aegean Moon. Just like Alp.. Miller.

So Miller's family is originally from that place. “Aegean Moon, what a strange name.” Must remember so I can search it. “A soon as I have WIFI. I miss it.” I got nervous but there's no way back, Yesterday night I decided that I would say it today.

    -So, I was thinking, you actually don't need my presence here. I just stay in the RV cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the dogs. I’m not allowed to go to meetings with you or do some work stuff. I don’t even take notes. So I was planning to go back home, with all my pets so I can go back to me job.

I was afraid to see them as I spoke so I just looked to the plate. The silence was deadly. I look up and saw everyone's eyes on me. Looking more attentively, their eyes were clearer and null. I looked up “What type of lights are does?”

    -You are not allowed.

I turn and saw a mad Sabrina. Nelson and Kevin stay speechless.

    -Why am I not allowed?

    -Because you need to be here.

    -To cook and clean? Don´t get me wrong I like to be with you guys, but I didn't study to be cooking and cleaning, I like my job. And also I miss my boyfriend. Sabrina you went and visit yours, you get me right?

    -No, me and Nate are completely different of you and your human boyfriend!

    -How are we different?

    -You are not perfect for each other!

    -And who are you to say that? Who can judge that! You know, for your information I think he really is perfect for me! And I don’t need no one's permission, I was just saying so you knew I’m planning to leave!

I stood up and went to the room. Closing the door I felt all the adrenaline disappear and I cry. “That didn’t turn nothing like I thought it would.” I didn’t wanted to get in a fight, less with Sabrina. But it was true, I missed Noah, and I felt useless in the RV. The job that I was doing, they could manage by themselves. I felt and heard a knock on the door. I just slide off the way and cleaned my tears.

    -Come in.

Sabrina opened the door, she was crying. She jumped and hugged me. We cry for awhile, but never broke the hug.

    -I don’t want you to go, sorry for saying does things.

    -It’s okay, and it’s not like I am going to disappear, You can go and visit. We can plan some trips an go together.

    -But it’s not going to be the same!

She hugged me tighter, I hugged her back until she broke the hug.

    -I get your point, and yes. We will stay in contact.

    -When do you think I can go back home?

    -That we must discussed with Zac first. 

    -What if he doesn’t let me go?

    -He can’t keep you here if you don’t want to, don't worry I would be on your side.

We stood up from the floor and went to bed. We lay there and talked about our life. She told me that she was the youngest from four children three boys and she was the only girl. She told me many fun stories about her childhood, and some more about when she moved with Nate. I learned that they all live in the same building. I think they are some sort of apartments with common areas. I closed my eyes and everything went silent. Opening them I saw the time. “We fell asleep.” Sabrina was in deep sleep next to me. I open the door and saw Kevin and Nelson outside with the dogs. “If I must tell Miller that I’m going, I must have him happy.” I will make some lasagna! He said he liked it. I started the preparations. My afternoon went with the lasagna making, and protecting it from Kevin and his mushrooms.

    -Kevin no! You can add some when it's ready to your piece!

    -It’s not fair! Just because Zac hates mushrooms everyone must suffer.

-I also don't like them.

-But you just take them out.

He got tired of the talk and went to play in his phone. I kept guard, I knew if I left the lasagna alone Kevin will add them. Finally it was ready. I made a quick salad to complement the dish. Everyone sat in the table. I took the lasagna out of the oven and sat.

    -Are we waiting for Miller?

    -No, he is staying there today.

Nelson’s words got me a little down. I put so much effort in this dish and he isn’t even going to try it.

    -I will go back to where he is tonight.

    -Wait, tonight like today after lunch?

    -Yes, tonight.

I took the lasagna off the table, and ignored the complains. I cut a big piece and save it in a container. I returned the lasagna to the table. I went to my room and grab some paper and a pen. I wrote a note and put it above the container and storage everything in a plastic bag. I returned to my place just to see a lasagna full of mushrooms, I cut my piece and start to take mushrooms out of it. By the end, Nelson stood up and went to have a nap. I stay in the kitchen cleaning and protecting the last piece of the lasagna, that now was well packed and ready to travel to Miller. When Nelson woke up he took the plastic back and went.

    -It’s not fair, if you don't come back to eat you shouldn't receive nothing.

    -Don´t be a little boy Kevin.

Sabrina hit him with a cushion in the face. I thought he will fight back but instead looked at me. 

    -Are you really planning on leaving?

Sabrina stood up from the couch and I took her place.

    -Yes Kevin, I need to get back to work, and my real life.

    -But you…

    -No more sad talk, let's watch a movie, I bought some the last time I went to the city.

Sabrina was holding the laptop and a bunch of DVDs. I went to the kitchen to make popcorn and they started to choose the movies. When I returned Sabrina was not there.

    -She received a call and will be right back.

I just sat next to Kevin and started to eat the popcorn. When she arrived she looked pale. 

    -It was a call from Nelson, he spoke with Zac. He says you can go home tomorrow. He isn’t coming back to say goodbye, but wish you the best.

My heart ached to the words, and at the same time I was relieved that I was able to go back to my old life. Time went by fast. I made some hotdogs for dinner and everyone went to bed. I woke up to the sound of the dogs barking. I tried to went back to sleep but the barks continued. “Those are not their normal barks.” I stood up and exited the RV. Walking to the dog’s pen I heard big steps. I looked to the forest and saw a big dog. “Miller?” I walked to him. He also started to walk to me. the barking of the dog’s got stronger.

    -Miller, I thought you wouldn’t come back. Did you came to say goodbye?

I walked to him. I was so happy he could come and say goodbye.

    -Grace back off he isn’t Zac!

I turned my head and saw Sabrina and Kevin running while getting out of the RV. When I returned my sight to the front I saw the big wolf, but he was beige with brown, not black. I fell down and saw the big creature jump to me while growling. When he was just three foot of distance Kevin… No a big tabby brown with grey wolf jumped in front of me, and took the attack. I turned back and saw Sabrina, transforming? “What’s happening!” In her place there was a big wolf with champagne fur. Her face was white and had the same green eyes. Other two wolves appeared from the forest, and went directly to the tabby wolf. The champagne wolf jumped to one of the new ones, but three other wolves appeared from the other side. One ran directly to the champagne wolf, lowering his head he bit hard the front paw of his opponent. A piercing whine came out of the champagne wolf. The other went to the tabby wolf, which was fighting the other two wolves. He has handling the two okay, but when the third one appeared, he started to be constantly bitten and pushed around. The smell of blood and rotten meat flooded the air. Growls and whimpers were the only thing I was hearing. I couldn't move. My body didn't respond, I wanted to run and hide until I could wake up from the nightmare. My dogs started to bark even louder. A howl distract me and I saw the last wolf that appeared looking in the direction of my dog’s pen. He lowered his ears and then growled and started to run towards them. I was so afraid that I couldn't move. “Milo, Max!” I closed my eyes and felt my conscious slipping away. I started to feel the wind. a strong impact. Finally I got a metallic taste in my mouth. Opening my eyes I saw just two wolves, the tabby one and the champagne. I was standing near the dog’s pen. I tried to walk but I felt like in a dream, everything felt strange and blurry. Looking down I saw paws? “Whats happening?” “We shifted.” A voice, kinda like mine but not mine answer to me. There were some noises and two more wolves appeared. One white with a brown mask and the second was completely black.
