Wilkes paced his quiet hotel suite and snapped open his pocket watch, anxious for Nettie Maynard to finish her White House séance. She was already twenty minutes late for her reading with him. This time he"d invited her over, knowing he"d feel more at ease on his own turf. He intended to steer the conversation toward sending theater tickets to the White House on a regular basis.
