The next evening everything fell apart. I waited in my room for the Beta but he never came. Instead heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway. The door burst open. Four guards entered first followed by my father and Lyra. The Beta walked between them with his hands bound behind his back. His face carried fresh bruises. Blood stained the corner of his mouth. My stomach dropped. “Father,” I said stepping forward. “What is this?” Alpha Magnus looked at me with cold disappointment. “We caught him. Sneaking into the restricted archives again. Meeting with you in secret. Helping you spread dangerous lies about your origins.” Lyra stood beside him with satisfaction clear on her face.
