Wednesday. Today's Wednesday, her favorite day of the week. Why, you may ask? Wednesday is when she'll be able to visit her grandma. Why Wednesday? Because she has extra curriculum activities in Saturday and Sunday, she can't visit her grandma in that day. So she asked the school principal if she can be excused in Wednesdays. And since she has high grades, the principal let her. She also needed a break from work and school from time to time.
And social interaction is killing her.
Which led her to this. She's now inside a cafe in another city, away from her school. Her grandmother live far from her school so she takes the first bus at 4am. It's a two and a half hour ride so she arrive at her grandma's house at 6:30 am. Her grandma owns a cafe that opens around 6:30, so once she arrived, she started to help.
It's a peaceful morning everytime she's inside her grandma's cafe. Only a few people come into their cafe in the morning to take a quick breakfast and then leave. Some morning joggers also stop by and rest.
Her grandma's cafe is a little cafe with many small bookshelves around. They sell breakfast in the morning and then pastries and sweets in the afternoon, which her grandma and some of her workers cook themselves. Her grandma's shop is her place of peace. Away from problems and somewhere she can be herself.
She's sitting inside the counter, reading a book while waiting for another costumer to order.
"Ate Tina!" someone called her. She turned to her side and saw Yanny, one of the workers in the cafe. She's working as a waiter here to "pay off some bills," she said. Amenda sometimes wonder why this kid is skipping school just to work here.
"Yes, Yanny?" Amenda asked as Yanny sat beside her.
"Is it hard?" Yanny asked. Amenda knew by now what she's asking about. Everytime Amenda came to the cafe to help, Yanny will ask her how's school or how does she handle school. Amenda always answer truthfully, since she knew that Yanny wants to know how to handle her own school activities as well.
"It is really hard. You know this by now, Yanny," Amenda chuckled.
"Yes. But today your eye bags got bigger!" Yanny stated while pointing at Amenda's eyes. Amenda widen her eyes and look at the minnie mirror on the counter. It was true. She has a noticeable eye bags now.
"Do you think grandma saw?" Amenda mumbled. Yanny nodded "no".
"She didn't. If grandma did, she would be scolding you by now," Yanny smiled. Amenda wondered, how does she acts so sweet naturally?
Amenda couldn't do that. She needs to plan how she should act first to come off as someone caring and kind towards people. She's a fake.
Amenda chuckled a little and took her bag. She pulled out her concealer and started to cover her eye bags. She doesn't need her grandma to get worried.
As she was about to finish, someone faked coughed in front of her. This immediately caught the two girls attention. Amenda quickly put her concealer back in her bag and looked at the costumer.
She froze when she saw him. And she sure isn't the only one confused.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Can I get my grandma's order?" the brunette asked.
Amenda looked at him and he was quick to realize that he wasn't a regular here. "Isaac Christoval. Bibanca Christival's grandson? She told me to get her order."
The boy gave her an awkward smile and pursed his lips to a thin line. Amenda nodded, knowing who Lola Biba is. She was a regular costumer here since Lola Biba and her grandma are friends. She's a sweet lady who always order a whole mocha cake.
She smiled at the boy and started to get the mocha cake from the kitchen. There she saw her grandma cooking happily with her workers with a warm smile. Her grandma turned to her and asked, "Ano yun, ija?"
"Lola Biba's cake po. Her grandson is here to pick it up," she stated kissing her grandma on the cheeks. She's a grandma's girl so she always kiss or hug her grandma whenever she likes. And her grandma likes it.
"Harvey or Daniel?" her grandma asked with a shocked face. She haven't seen those kids since they were little. She was sure happy that one of them is in her cafe.
Amenda not knowing who those two are mumbled with a questioning tone, "Isaac...?"
"Si Harvey nga, ija. Come, the two of you used to pkay together," grandma said and took her granddaughter's wrist. Pulling her towards a box and letting her carry it, probably the cake.
Once they exited the kitchen, her grandma walked towards Isaac and hugged him. In which the boy returned, since he knew who she was. "Harvey! Mijo!"
"How have you been? Ang laki-laki mo na! Binatang binata na!" her grandma exclaimed, which caught the attention of some people but they quickly go back to their own works when they saw her grandma.
"Hello, Lola Mary," Isaac smiled warmly at her. Mary told them to sit down so that they can talk. She brought some coffee and pandesal out to eat.
"Eat, Harvey. You look skinny," Mary stated as she give him pandesal and a cup of coffee.
"Mind telling this old lady how you've been?"
Isaac chuckled, "Sure."
Isaac told her about how they all have been since they mive out of the city. He told him about how her Kuya Daniel have now graduated from college and is now working at their company. But once he told her about his school, Mary turned to her granddaughter.
"You didn't told me that you guys were schoolmates."
Amenda scratched her nape. "I didn't knew who he was...?" she said... or rather inquired?
"You guys were playmates when you were little! Remember how you guys go to the same kindergarten?"
Honestly speaking, Amenda wasn't the only one who forgot. But now, both of them are reminiscing the past. And remembering who each other were.
"Snobber! / Troublemaker."
Both of them said in unison. Both shocked and surprised.
Mary laughed, "I remember how Amenda here drags you into her shenanigans."
Isaac chuckled, "And up until now. I seem to be apart of it."
"I didn't mean to punch you!" Amenda quickly defended herself, nkt wanting her grandma to give her an earful of scolding.
"You punched him? I'm not surprised," Mary rolld her eyes and laughed.
The three talked and talked for two hours. Isaac finding it a little heartwarming and Amenda finding it peaceful. They are both having a great time since stress has piled up on them. They were honestly having a happy time.
