Anticipation

I sat at the edge of the bed, my chest lightly heaving with anticipation. My phone wasn't ringing, and anytime I heard something, I immediately sprang up, only to have to go right back to bed again. I even strolled downstairs to play with Kris, but he was too engrossed in the dinner I had made and an animation show on TV that he wouldn't even give me the time of the day. I gave a small sigh and started to walk back up, just as I heard the familiar whirring of the automatic iron gates.
