4. The game.

The next day I woke to the sound of birdsong. I had fallen asleep with all my clothes and shoes on the night before. I rolled over to find that I had to hurry if I wanted to shower before class. I practically ran to class to make it on time. As I found a seat and sat down the professor came in and started the lecture. I had a hard time keeping up with writing notes because my mind kept going back to the night before. Who was that man? Why was he so dirty? Why would he chase me through the woods like that? The whole thing just really creeped me out. There had been something strangely predatory about him. Like an animal stalking its prey, preparing to attack. After classes I went home. My bed had been waiting for me all day. I just wanted to crawl under the covers and watch movies until passing out. My roommate apparently had other plans. She nearly jumped me when I walked through the door. “Pen, you’re going to the game with me tonight.” She said, dragging me towards my room. “What game?” I sighed, I was too tired to argue. She pushed me down in my desk chair. “The hockey game, of course” I had always enjoyed watching hockey, not as much as my moms friend David, but hey no one did. David had always been like a dad to me, although he and my mom were just friends. Melanie then walked over to my closet, rummaging around. She pulled out a dress and a black leather jacket, and dumped them on my bed. “Besides, there’s a party after the game, we’re going to that too.” She said as she came over to me. “Please. I can’t go alone.” My roommate Melanie was unlike me a party girl. I wasn’t much for it, I usually only went as Melanie’s wingman or you might say wingwoman. “Fine.” I gave in. I could probably use a distraction from my thoughts anyway. “But I need something to eat first.” “Okay, hurry up and get dressed, I’ll wait outside” she squealed and walked out of my room, shutting the door behind her. I went over to my bed and put on the clothes she had laid out for me. I then found a pair of black boots to wear and walked out to her. “Alright let’s go.” When we arrived at the arena, we went in and found two empty seats. The game was about to begin, the two teams were standing on two lines opposite each other. The game was close. When we scored a goal, the other team scored right after. The first period ended with our team scoring a goal in the last five seconds. The second period were tough for the other team. They got penalty after penalty. Our guys scored three more goals in power play. When the third period began, the other team was on edge. The score was in our favor. Which only agitated the other team. They played dirty. Trying to trip our players. There were several penalties the referees didn’t call. I found myself biting my lip sitting on the edge of the chair. The game ended with our win, which apparently made their guys angry, because a fight broke out.
