Isabelle's POV
“ Bells.” My dad's voice rang out.
I shot up from the bed, dark circles underneath my eyes as my hair resembled a bird nest and my bedsheet were all rumpled.
I let out a grunt.
I just stared at the door, unmoving as I scratched my head with a tired yawn. I felt I was about to fall back into bed, I felt so tired like my arms were about to give out but I just couldn't.
My eyes refused to close. My brain couldn't shut down.
“ Ahhhh! This is all his fault.” I screamed loudly, I pulled at my hair.
My mind went back to that jerk’s face Aiden and a smile crept up my face.
“ Stop it, Isabelle.” I convinced myself, slapping my cheeks as I tried to focus.
I was pulled away from my thoughts as my dad's knock and worried voice came through the door, “ Bells, are you alright? Should I come in?” He asked.
“ No.” I yelled.
I stood up from the bed, walking straight to the mirror as I wretched from how messed up I looked right now.
He sighed.
“ Okay, just be fast. Breakfast is ready and you have school.” He said, his voice fading as he moved backwards.
“ Wait, what? School?” I yelled.
There wasn't a response, I remembered he had registered me in the same school that Marv attended and Aiden.
Oh well.
My heart was suddenly racing, after all it was my first day and I had to make an impression. With that thought, I rushed into the bathroom as I started getting ready but thoughts of the party flooded my mind.
I almost snapped the toothbrush in my hand as I thought about Aiden's words though.. I felt that something about it was different.
Aside from him acting like a total bummer.
The look on Aiden's face wasn't anger but alarm. Almost like he had seen something that the others hadn't seen.
“ Ugh, no no.” I waved at the mirror, spitting the toothpaste in my mouth with a grunt trying to dissuade myself but the more I thought about it.
The more it made sense.
There was this calculating look in the eyes of the football player, they looked like they had been caught and the fact that they didn't fight for a place and just left.
Even the howls of that night? Could this all be a coincidence? No.
I pushed the thoughts to the back of my mind, going into the shower as I had a cold bath, that calmed my nerves. Today's outfit had to be something attractive as I picked a short dress and a cropped jacket.
“ So pretty!” I whispered as I looked at the girl in the mirror.
I was all set for my first day in school, I picked my phone up and went downstairs to take my breakfast.
“ Oh my daughter is so pretty.” My father praised me.
My back stiffened from his words, looking at him with an awkward smile. Though I felt this warm feeling in my abdomen from his words.
He had a cute apron on his neck as he led me to the table, chirping away, “ I called your mom and she told me your favorites.”
Hearing his words, my eyes moved to the table before they widened: there were moist and fluffy strawberry pancakes, scrabbled eggs, chocolate cupcakes and vanilla tea.
I almost ran into his arm, a small smile escaped my lips before it closed and I looked away.
He let out an awkward cough, stretching his hand out to say, “ Just eat.”
I nodded.
I sat down, he didn't eat with me as he walked to his room. I placed everything into my mouth, looking like a chipmunk with my full cheeks.
“ So yummy!” I cried out.
This brought back nostalgic memories of Saturday mornings when my dad would make this exact same spread for me.
I let out a bitter laugh.
I didn't know when a single tear slid down my eye, he happened to see that as he asked, “ What's wrong?” There was a strange urgency in his voice as he rushed to my side, asking, “ Where are you hurt?”
“ No where.” I answered coldly.
He was taken aback by my tone but he managed to hide it as he said, “ So these are your credentials.”
I looked at the neat file that sat on the couch, I walked towards it and picked it up.
I went through it calmly, trying to see if he had made a mistake or forgotten anything but he hadn't.
His eyes were locked on my movement, seeing I had no objection. He spoke up before I could, “ I can't drive you to school.”
I was confused by his words, wondering how he wanted me to find the school then.
“ Someone will take you to school.” He completed it.
I sucked my breath, holding the file tightly hoping it wasn't who I thought it was then there were familiar footsteps.
I looked up, my dad looked behind with a smile, “ Always on time, champ.”
My face fell, eyes filled with rage as I said in a calm voice, “ No, Dad.”
Aiden stared at me with an amused look, said with that bossy tone, “Don't worry, Uncle.”
My dad nodded, he walked away leaving me and him in the same space.
I wasn't having this. I stood up, grabbing my phone as I clicked on the Uber app and said calmly, “ My dad was mistaken. I will book a ride.”
He didn't say a thing, I grabbed my stuff as I announced, “ My ride is here. I'm heading out.” I didn't spare him a glance.
I just headed to the door, trying to keep a calm look though my heart was slamming so hard that I was becoming lightheaded.
“ Stop.” He said in a deep, raspy voice.
His voice was right beside
my ear, his hand clasped around my hand as he pinned me to the door and whispered beside my ear,
“ I'm sorry.”
