Aiden's POV
My eyes refused to shut, my wolf stirring within me.
“ Micah.” I sighed, tossing in the bed as my hand clenched the bedsheet to hold myself.
Micah growled within me, howling one thing over and over again, “ Those boys were uncanny.” He repeated.
Those words didn't stop, he seemed so sure about it. And I couldn't dissuade that feeling within my heart.
Their scent. The malicious look on their faces. Even their footprint.
Every single thing, I remembered it and it wasn't just that one player but the entire team. There was something about them that didn't sit well with me from the moment I set my eyes on them.
“ Micah.” I called out.
He doesn't answer right away, then he grunts as I feel my body rumble as he says, “ They aren't normal.”
We both had the same thought, those were the outsiders that had been howling.
But why were they here? For Isabelle? Why would they be here for a human?
I stood up slowly, moving to the window that showed me the view of the pack as I stared out at the moon with questions still in my head.
“ Why did the moon goddess give me a human as my mate? Was it a mistake?” I thought.
My wolf stirred within me.
At this point, I knew that we had a serious problem at hand especially since I couldn't tell anyone about my discovery yet. My mind kept on going back to the look on her face.
She was angry at me.
I asked no one, but my voice came out as a whisper, “ Could I have reacted too harshly?”
I shook my head in dismissal.
I stared at the dark sky, not a single shred of fatigue creeping into my bones as I watched until the sun lit up the sky.
I couldn't just stay there, waiting for the solutions to be handed to me.
I needed to find evidence. And kick those outsiders out.
I moved straight to the wardrobe, pulling a black hoodie as I left through the window and disappeared into the woods.
My wolf grew more uneasy as I neared the border, I stopped trying to restrain it as I let out a loud howl. My knee buckled to the ground, the cracking of my bones filled the forest as I stood on all fours in my wolf form.
Micah raced through the forest, letting out loud howls as I summoned two elite warriors.
Their voices come through the mind link, filled with haste and worry, “ Alpha Prince, What's wrong?” One of the elite warriors asked.
I didn't have the time to spare, yelling in an address for them, “ The Eastern border.”
My steps quickened, my heart slamming into my ribs as I neared the border and I saw them already waiting for me.
“ Alpha Prince.” They acknowledge with a bow.
I quickly shifted my form, as they dropped the cloak over my body as I said quietly, “ Intruders.”
Their eyes switched to a dark crimson, giving a short nod as they understood what I meant.
The eastern border was large, so we went our separate ways as I checked for footprints, scents and anything that proved that there had been intruders.
Elijah suddenly yelled, “ I found it.” I rushed towards his voice, only to see him pointing at the tracks on the floor in excitement.
“ Those are deer tracks.” I immediately said with a sigh.
Again, another shout but it was just a broken branch.
‘ My instincts have never failed me.” I gasped.
There was no mark of an intruder.
We all came back to the same spot with sour looks on our faces, looking around and exchanging looks of despair.
“ Micah, what's wrong?” I asked.
I felt him pulling me to a particular side, it was very close to the border near the protection boundary.
My nose picked it up: that familiar scent, the one that I had perceived in that group. It lingered in this area, though it was fading slowly.
I gestured for the others to come closer, they perceived it as their eyes darkened and they asked, “ What do we do?”
I went quiet, I wouldn't suggest an outright outburst instead I said quietly, “ We watch.”
They nodded.
Now I had evidence.
I moved back home, still contemplating if I should tell the council of what I had found. I got home, noticing the still air that surrounded the house.
I walked in caution.
“ The council members are waiting for you.” One of the servants told me in a grim voice.
The look on their faces said it all, the reason that they were here had to be urgent. I didn't say a word, just moved quickly to the study as they all rose to greet me.
I scanned the room quietly, taking a longer second to stare at their faces.
As I sat down on the chair, there came the uncomfortable silence as I waited for one of them to speak.
Instead, they all exchanged glances like they were saying ‘ You talk. No, you talk.’
The frown on my face grew uglier, my patience growing thin as I snapped,
” If you've gathered here to exchange glances, you're wasting my time. Speak."
Cough.
One of them coughed, and the chief of the council suddenly said, "You frightened the children.”
Another said, “ Businesses closed early.”
“ People think war is coming.”
The others found their voices, demanding for my reason for the sudden curfew.
My eye brows knitted as I met their questioning, I had nothing to tell them as I couldn't reveal that it was all because of Isabelle.
A human?
That would create more unrest, a buzz around her and I didn't want any of that.
They grew bolder, seeing that I wasn't answering as they knew that I would have shut them up if I had strong evidence.
The chief drew closer, a sinister look as he said, “ A ruler doesn't rule based on instinct.”
My chest tightened, about to go berserk as my palms folded into tight fists. I smiled lightly, dragging the chair behind me as I quietly left the room and shut the door with a bang.
They were still arguing and spitting s**t but I didn't turn.
Marv blocked my path, his eyes were gleaming red as he declared,
“ You owe Isabelle an apology.”
