Chapter 9

1068 Words
Aiden's POV She doesn't move. I think she had even forgotten how to breathe, her lips were cracked open as she stared intensely at me in surprise. She had this astonished look, so was I. I didn't believe I could say that, more like I was pushed into saying that. Then her voice came out choking, “ Did I hear you right?” She still didn't believe that I could say it, her eyes lingered over my form. My lips thinned, I looked down at her petite figure as I noticed how close we were and I pulled away immediately, stumbling backwards with an excuse. “ It's” I tried to explain. She cut me short, raising her eyebrows as she tattled in a mimicking tone, I believe she was mimicking me “ The great Aiden apologizes. This should be a headline because…” I think I never understood how serious this was until she had said it like this. I stood awkwardly in place, scratching my hair softly as I croaked, “ That's not what you think.” But she doesn't stop, she's engrossed in her own little world. I cleared my throat, maintaining a serious but apologetic stance as I said quietly, “ Isabelle, I'm sorry for embarrassing you at the party.” Her eyebrows furrowed in understanding, I wasn't apologizing for those boys. She looked at me for a second more, her hand placed by her side as she asked me, “ Then why did you do it?” I couldn't speak. How was I supposed to explain to her that it was my instincts? Or if I wanted to place it better then I would say she was my mate and I was trying to protect her. She laughed quietly, the look in his eyes spat jerk. She misunderstood me again. Isabelle takes a step back, whispering, “ I don't need your backhanded apology if you wouldn't tell the truth.” My chest tightened from her words, seeing her take small steps back. I rushed over, my fingers brushed over her wrist and she hid them behind her back. “ Don't touch me.” She warned. The look in her eyes were filled with a foreboding energy, so I raised my hand to my head as I said quietly, “ You aren't taking an Uber!” “ Says who?” She retorted. My legs are tapping against the floor rhythmically as I said, “ Me! I'm telling you, you can't. It's dangerous and I'm here.” She laughed so hard that her body bent over, raising a finger and pointing it at me, “ You? Who do you think you are to change my decisions? And you are the real danger.” While we were still bickering, Jacob walked in and went straight to the kitchen and I said in a louder voice, “ Your dad called me here and it's only right that you enter my car.” As expected, he took the bait as he told her, “ Yes, Isabelle. Join Aiden.” Her face fell at that instant but I held a bragging look on my face. I quickly took her file, dragged her outside as I pushed her into the passenger seat. She didn't want to. As I got into the car, I tuned to the radio and it was a quite popular song playing but she didn't sing along instead it was the painfully hum of the vehicle that duetted with the radio. “ When are we getting there?” I heard her mutter quietly under her breath. I sighed. I tried concentrating, but my eyes began to flicker to the side mirror as I swerved to a side street. “ Jeez!” She screamed, clutching to the side handle. I didn't reply, my eyes were just watching around. “ Are you feeling weird because you apologized?” She asked, I looked at her in surprise, wondering what made her think that way. “ Why?” I asked. “ The swerve? Side mirror paranoia?” She said, I just shook my head. We got to school, the students gathered at the entrance and I could already hear them chatter away. “ Is that the lycan Prince?” “ He actually dropped her off?” They said, “ Wow, this is a first.” She heard some of their words, especially the title and I saw the way she had turned to look at me in confusion. But I maintained a neutral look. I walked her to where Marv was, before I left, I said quietly, “ Stay with her.” He rolled his eyes, didn't reply instead rushed after Isabelle. “ Hmm.” I groan under my breath. I decided I needed to go to the council office, we had some unfinished business that needed to be polished. But just after I had gotten out of the school gate, Micah let out a low growl. All my hair stood, my eyes scanning the surrounding as I immediately perceived that same unfamiliar scent lingering near the school gate. “ Wait!” I snapped. I turned in the direction it was strongest, following it until I had gotten into a dark alley but that smell.. Disappeared. “ f**k!” I cursed. “ They are here but still hiding.” Micah said quietly. I nodded, whoever it belonged to knew how to hide. I didn't leave immediately, I just stood there waiting while I held my breath. Something in me felt like they would come out, make a sound or something. Crack! A can rolled out from behind a dumpster that I had ignored, I rushed to that side, pushing it aside with a groan. Empty. It was empty, there was no one there aside from a rat. I rolled my eyes, letting out a heavy sigh. I couldn't just stay here, I looked at my watch seeing the amount of time that had passed. “ Oh well. To anyone listening, I'm going.” I said loudly. I had my back against the alley, then I did a quick look but there was no one there. I was actually leaving this time, when I noticed something that made me freeze. One of the CCTV cameras overlooking the school has been scratched deeply. Not by metal. By claws. I moved closer, quietly touching the mark. Micah whispers: “ They are watching her.”
