We pulled into the driveway and before the car even stopped, I had already jumped out. I was walking as fast as I could into the main house until I made my way to just outside the lounge. I heard Mason's familiar laugh and I heard my mother's soft and gentle voice. My shoulders relaxed and I felt the need to try with my mum again. Try harder, for Mason's sake.
I walked away quietly, not wanting to disturb them and needing to get to Melissa before she decided to make a run for it and put in her resignation. I opened the door to the cottage and stepped inside. I was standing straight and tall, Melissa was sitting with one leg over the arm rest of the couch but when she saw me, she quickly adjusted herself to her sitting in the pose of a lady.
