CHAPTER EIGHT TRISTAN'S POV “How dare she tell me-no, order me to fix her phone? Did she have any idea of who I was? I’m Tristan Clayton, Alpha of the Night Walkers, the strongest pack in town ” I snapped, pausing for a second to take a long swig of my drink before placing the glass back on the mahogany table. "You know, instead of standing here ranting to me like I'm your f*****g therapist, how about you do what you are good at?" Logan's nonchalance didn't help with my mood. A pretty corny name for a wolf, right? I loved it and so did he. "Technically you are my therapist," I shrugged, pacing to and fro in the marble floor. "The hell I'm!" he denied fervently," Anyway, I'm tired of you complaining about that woman," "I'm not complaining, okay?" I paused and in a low tone added," I know you felt it, Logan. The pull," For a while, Logan remained silent and I could feel the same dread filling up in him. He was scared as much as me that this time it may possibly not be a hoax-that this time we may have just found our mate. For some reason, I didn’t want to believe it but I had sniffed her scent, found myself losing control to Logan for a just a few seconds. “We should take her,” He growled demandingly and I knew that feeling so damn well. He wanted to claim her as his, to feel the respite even just for a few days before we ruin her. She would make the perfect painkiller. Human, extremely gorgeous and I had sniffed the innocence right off her. The perfect combination to numb the pain even for just a few days. “No,” I eventually spoke, my tone a mere growl. “Tristan, she is our mate,” There was a pause, “I know you crave it. The innocence. The relief. The feeling like you are high on some Molly. The need to be normal; to feel redeemed,” hie voice dropped into a low, alluring tone, “Lets take her. Make her ours,” I wanted to fall for the trap. I knew exactly how it felt but this time, it was my mate. How could I ruin her? She was probably the most condescending person I know, given our first meeting but even still, I’d have to stay away from her. There was a huge chance she was just some tourist dropping in town for the night and by tomorrow she would be out town. “What if she is here to stay?” “Can you quit reading my thoughts?” I snapped, stepping out of my clothes and into the shower. “Technically we are the same person. Oh, and while we are taking a bath, try not to picture her naked,” “Logan,” I seethed under my teeth, turning the showerhead head on. On times like this when my head was home to a jumbled mess of thoughts, a cold shower was what I craved for the most. It calmed me in ways nothing else did. “Just saying,” I pushed him out of my thoughts, enough to suppress him before I let the water calm my nerves down. Even with my eyes closed, I could still picture her. She hadn’t been scared of me like everyone else in this town-no, she had looked at me right in the eye, even when I threatened her and demanded I pay her phone. I chuckled at that. “You have no idea who you messed with, Mate. I’ll let you slide this once though,” I grabbed the towel from the pile, tying it around my waist. When I walked into the main section of the bedroom, Josh, my Beta, was pacing around. “You should quit sneaking into my room like that. People might start thinking you are into me,” I said, running a towel over my wet hair. “Even if I was gay, I wouldn’t kiss you if you were the last man on earth,” he stopped pacing, sitting down on the black leather couch, one leg crossed over the other. “Why? Am I not hot enough for you?” I smirked, not all offended by his statement. I rarely gave a s**t about people, at least not in a long time but if anyone were to lay a hand on Josh, I would kill them without hesitation. “Not even close,” he let out a deep breath, “Remember how I told I got this girl pregnant? And that she was coming over to town?” “Yeah,” I pulled on a shirt. I had barely concentrated on the details but he wouldn’t shut up about it since he came back. “Well, so she um…had to quit her job and well, at the interview today, they said you fired your last PA. She is great at her job, trust me,” “What? No,” I denied. “Why not?” “If I heard you right the last time, she doesn’t even know about our world. Only werewolves work at the company. I’m not about to deal with some human,” I shrugged. “That’s the thing. I don’t know how to explain it but um…she gave birth to a werewolf baby. It should be impossible for a human unless there is a Salutary to help her,” “Maybe the boy is not a werewolf,” “He is and soon, he will start having elevated hearing and sight. I felt it today when I hugged him after they arrived. I mean, for a while I believed that he wasn’t but now that I know he is, I’m scared. How am I supposed to explain to a little boy and his mother that they are now part of a supernatural world? Where do I begin?” he seemed exasperated. “That’s your fault for not pulling out on a human girl. Teenage hormones,” I shook my head. “Oh, you haven’t met her. She is damningly gorgeous. You wouldn’t have had the time to pull out either. Oh, and the way she moans my-“ “I don’t want the details, Josh,” I paused, “Fine. Let her send her resume and I’ll see,” “I owe you one,”
