  Epilogue Apple blossom blew in swathes over the church path as they made their way toward the gate. They were silent, walking in a crowd of other women, all blinking in the bright April sunlight after the cool dimness of the church. There wasn’t much chatter. It had been a short but heartfelt service of remembrance. The Royaumont women who had managed to attend were going back to Anna’s parents’ house with the rest of the congregation.
