Chapter 3: The Rose Family

785 Words
Mirelia stepped out of the bar, feeling a bit lost. For six years, she had built her life around Droevir, both at work and in her personal life. Now, suddenly, without him, she wasn't sure what to do. After kicking aside a drunk who had tried to get handsy, Mirelia casually walked over to a trash can, pulled out the Lamborghini keys from her pocket, and tossed them in without a second thought. The car was Droevir's anyway, so she couldn't care less about losing it. She wasn't about to drive it after breaking up, and she definitely wasn't planning to return the keys. She had only gone to the bar to pick up Droevir, who was too drunk to drive. She never expected it would be the night she finally decided to break up with him. Mirelia let out a sudden laugh. Droevir had a personal driver, yet she always insisted on picking him up herself. How ridiculous she must have seemed to others, and she never even realized it. It felt like she had been sleepwalking through a six-year-long dream, but the moment she opened that door, she finally woke up. “Knock, knock, knock...” The relentless knocking on the door made Aurora clench her fists, fighting the urge to punch whoever was on the other side. But on the surface, Aurora didn't show a trace of irritation. Instead, she put on a sweet smile and said to the camera, “Someone's at the door, maybe a delivery. I'll go check it out. Don't go anywhere, my darlings!” Behind the camera was a live-streaming room, and the stream was quite popular. The chat was buzzing with messages urging Aurora to hurry back, they wanted to see more dancing. Aurora blew a few kisses to the camera before gracefully turning and leaving the frame. The moment she was out of sight, her face turned cold. Who dared to knock on her door at a time like this? She stormed to the door and yanked it open, but her expression froze instantly. She rubbed her eyes and looked again, the person was still there. Aurora asked hesitantly, “Mirelia?” Mirelia raised an eyebrow. “It's been years, and you don't even recognize your aunt?” Aurora felt her fangs almost slipping out in anger. Damn Mirelia, she never missed a chance to hit where it hurt, even after all these years. Mirelia and Aurora both belonged to the Rose Clan of the vampire lineage, but their history went back even further. They had known each other since their teens, back when they were still human. Back then, Mirelia was the daughter of a renowned count in Granth. Sadly, her father passed away prematurely, but her strong and wise mother ensured that Mirelia never suffered. Aurora, on the other hand, was the daughter of a newly titled viscount, who moved to Granth with her family when she was twelve. Two equally beautiful and adored girls, both accustomed to being the center of attention, were bound to clash when they met. Their rivalry played out at every social event they attended. Who wore the latest fashion, who had the most stylish accessories, to who had the best manners or the most graceful dance, they competed over everything they could. This rivalry was abruptly ended by a plague that swept across the nation. Both girls fell ill and died, only to be turned into vampires shortly afterward. However, they were turned into different vampires, which made Mirelia a seventh-generation vampire and Aurora an eighth. This meant Mirelia outranked Aurora, a fact that frustrated Aurora for a long time, and still does to this day, even a century later. As Aurora invited Mirelia inside, she remarked, “I can't believe you're still alive. The family thought you were dead, they said you'd been hunted down by the Sanctum and had perished at their hands.” “I was hunted by the Sanctum, yes, and even took a few silver bullets, but I got lucky and survived.” Mirelia spoke casually, but Aurora gasped in shock. She couldn't believe a vampire could escape the Sanctum after being wounded by silver. But then she remembered it was Mirelia, and it all made sense. When humans are turned into vampires, they each get a unique gift. Mirelia's gift was her lack of vulnerability to sunlight, making her more of a hybrid between vampire and human than a typical bloodsucker. Aurora grabbed a blood bag from the fridge and handed it to Mirelia. “So, where have you been all these years? We heard nothing from you.” Mirelia paused for a moment, then began recounting her past six years to Aurora.
