It was actually quite simple. Mirelia had been accidentally discovered by the Sanctum, and in the ensuing chase, she was seriously injured.
While fleeing into the forest, she ran into Droevir, who was out hunting with his family. Mistaking her for a local villager who had been robbed, Droevir took her in and saved her.
Severely injured and unable to drink blood, Mirelia spent over six months recovering. During that time, she fell in love with Droevir, and it wasn't long before they became a couple, and she stayed at his mansion.
Perhaps it was because Droevir appeared like a savior in her darkest moment that Mirelia truly loved him for a time.
But unfortunately, Droevir didn't have the same deep, passionate love. It wasn't long before he grew tired of her and began chasing after younger women.
“Oh my God!” Aurora suddenly exclaimed. “Did you just say your human boyfriend is the heir to the Universal Gravitation Corporation? That means he's insanely rich!”
Mirelia stared at Aurora in disbelief. Had it really been that long since they last met? Her focus seemed completely off.
“What does his money have to do with anything?” Mirelia asked, genuinely puzzled.
Aurora wrinkled her nose in disdain and said, “Come on, princess. It's the new century. It's not like everything in your domain belongs to you anymore. Don't you need money to buy things?”
“I'm a vampire, and I don't really have much to spend money on. My blood is provided by the family, I live in my own castle, and I only need to buy clothes. I could sell some of my jewelry and still have enough clothes to last until the end of the world.” Mirelia counted on her fingers, feeling she was definitely not lacking in money.
“Buddy, you're thinking too simplistically. Do you really believe you can stay in a castle in the forest forever?”
“A couple of years ago, a thirteenth-generation kid from our family was sleeping at home when the castle suddenly collapsed. He didn't have the money to fix it, so now he works the night shift as a cashier at the 24-hour convenience store next door to save up for the repairs.”
Aurora got more and more into it, eventually talking about herself. “Besides, with all the surveillance cameras everywhere, you can't just speed off at 150 miles per hour like before. You need a car, right? Ordinary cars aren't good enough for someone as noble as me, so all I want is a Ferrari.”
“So, did you get the Ferrari?” Mirelia asked softly.
Aurora immediately deflated and said sadly, “Making money is really hard. I rely on my charm and talent to livestream dancing. Even though I've attracted a lot of fans, at the current rate, it'll take me... 20 years to afford a Ferrari.”
After a moment of silence, Aurora suddenly let out a loud “Argh!” and nearly jumped to the ceiling from the sofa. She dashed to her study like the wind, muttering, “My livestream! Oh my God, I forgot I was still broadcasting…”
After checking the sound settings and realizing she had already turned them off before leaving, Aurora finally breathed a sigh of relief. If their conversation had exposed their vampire identities, Camerilla would definitely have killed her.
Mirelia sat on the sofa, watching Aurora's retreating figure, deep in thought. She had certainly taken in Aurora's words. Being able to walk in sunlight and interact with human society gave her more opportunities than most, so she understood the importance of money.
It was just that she had never lacked money herself, so she hadn't paid much attention to this issue. She hadn't realized that even vampires had to work now.
Given this, she thought the money she had earned over the past six years with Droevir should indeed be retrieved. Even if she doesn't need it, it could be used to help her kin.
As soon as the livestream viewers saw Aurora back, they started flooding the chat with requests for her to dance again. But Aurora could only force a sweet smile and, in a slightly apologetic tone, said, “Sorry, dear ones, my friend is visiting, so today's livestream ends here…”
“Aurora, I need to step out for a while,” Mirelia said.
Aurora turned to Mirelia in shock, momentarily forgetting her sweet voice. “Where are you going now? It took me years to find you, and now you want to disappear again?”
Mirelia, however, just smiled teasingly. “Years to find me? I was wondering why you came all the way to Rosetown. Turns out I'm that important.”
