XVII: Confession

“I like you.” Jay suddenly said towards Jake who looked at him with pure horror.                 It was so sudden and out of nowhere. Jake gulped the contents of his mouth as he was eating some bread and butter and Jay suddenly approached him like that.                 Since they were at the kitchen and everyone was just finishing with their breakfast, there was utter surprise as well as awkward silence. Ava and Hiro was already out of ear shot because they were once again discussing something and all left in the kitchen were the boys.                 “Don’t scare me like that.” Jake answered then walked a good distance away from Jay.                 Jay threw hands and frustrated, insisted that he likes Jake. Jake of course was confused but he was so persistent that he followed Jay’s footsteps wherever he goes to.                 “Stop following me.” Jake said.                 “Why wouldn’t I?” Jake frowned.                 It was still early in the morning and the two was already as energetic. Everyone was watching them act like cat and mouse chasing each other while nibbling on their own pieces of bread.                 “You never mention that you swing that way.” Jean pointed out and Jay angrily slammed the table in front of him.                 “Shut it.” Jay said angrily.                 “Sure.” Jean said and exchanged looks with Ethan who was surprised as well by the turn of events.                 The question was, what triggered that confession to occur?                 The evening before, Seven and Jay was having a conversation. He thought that he too needs to give Jay his thanks as he’s one of the people who helped him come back home. It was awkward for Jay though as he was aware that Seven hates him so their situation was a little bit awkward on Jay’s part.                 “I know you like him.” Seven blurted and although he mentioned no one’s name, Jay shot him a look quickly.                                 “What?” Jay asked feeling shocked. “How can you tell?”                 “What? You do?” Seven chuckled and Jay frowned. So Seven doesn’t know but he plays as if he knows who he likes. “I just want to test the waters. But to be frank, I don’t think your feelings will be returned by that person.”                 “What do you mean?!” Jay shot up from where he was seated. He was suddenly angry about Seven’s behavior.                 “Stop stressing me out.” Seven said and Jay cooled down.                 “But still how do you know? I’ve been keeping it as secret. I mean I think it’s not worth it.” Jay whispered                 “How about you give it a shot?” Seven suggested with a smirk. ‘Wanna bet on it?”                 And that was the history of the confession.                 Jake was taken aback but he knows well that out of all people, Jay would not be serious when it comes to things like that.                 “STOP HARASSING ME!” he finally yelled and everyone in the room fell silent. --                 That afternoon was strange. Jake was still avoiding Jay because of his confession from earlier in the morning yet they found themselves gathered at the living room, sitting next to each other. They were forced by the others to sit together and now, even Jay was starting to feel embarrassed by what he did.                 Ava and Hiro was standing in front of them, a small white board table sitting in front of them and there were strange figures drawn on it.                 “What is this? Another plan?” Seven snorted. He already knew and Hiro just sighed.                 “What plan?” Nicky frowned.                 “You see, this is for the best.” Hiro explained. “I know you guys are not in a good condition to be going outside, most likely Seven—“                 “Hey! I’m not invalid.” Seven whined.                 ‘—Yeah whatever but you see, Ava and I decided to proceed with the plan of permanently leaving the manor to go to the Fort Base on the North to relocate there for good. Our food and water supplies are finally start to run out and we won’t be able to last until a year if we stay here.”                 “I have a contact person and we are planning to meet at Time Square but the thing is that area is now infested with the undead and the ops have been operating there. It’s likely for us to get killed instantly. According to Hiro, they possess poisonous tranquilizers like what Seven encountered.” Ava mentioned and all eyes fell onto Seven who only shrugged.                 “I know it will be difficult. And I know that you guys know how risky this plan will be. But still, we want to warn you beforehand the possibilities of us, losing each other in the process.” Hiro heaved a heavy sigh.                 “You just have to believe in us.” Jean said confidently, even flashing his biceps but Ethan put a hand on them and put them down.                 “It’s not a laughing matter Jean.” He whispered                 “These ops are dangerous and they kill without remorse. We want to avoid them as much as possible but they seem to be conquering the city. It will be a long drive to go to the base and we have to struggle so much in order to get there.” Hiro continued.                 “This will be executed after a week as we still needs some preparation and I want to inform you guys first so that you can contribute to the possible idea of our mission as well.” Ava said. “Honestly, I am aware that Sky is an agent sent by my parents but sadly he’s not with us anymore and I wanted to return back the favor to him by returning back alive. I am also expecting that you guys will be able to come with me. You are all still young and it is not too late to start again.”                 “We’ve heard from her sources that if we ever made it back alive, we will be sent to Alaska. There’s a new civilization starting there and they wanted to save as much people for a restart. Sadly, there wasn’t any more in our area and maybe we are the last ones.”                 “This is horrible.” Sunny mumbled. “When you said there was no other people who have survived this, it’s like you’re saying there was no hope of our parents being alive.”                 “Well that could be it.” Hiro answered.                 Although quiet, Jake’s shoulder suddenly fell. Jay saw it and how Jake’s expression dropped and he had to rub his knees unnoticed as to comfort Jake. Jake realized it and he glanced at Jay before he pulled out his hand as to not make anyone notice what he just did.                 Jake on the other hand remained looking at Jay whose eyes now remained focused on what Hiro and Ava was discussing onto them yet his peripheral was focused onto Jake who he knows has been looking at him.                 Evening came and Jake was outside, watching the full moon in its highest peak.                 “Shouldn’t you be sleeping?” It was Sunny who appeared next to him.                 Sunny that time wasn’t smiling. As he found his gaze focused in the same moon that Jake was looking, he once again realized that their reality was in no way coming back.                 “I miss school. I miss everything.” Sunny said. “I still remember the last time I was at school, I was on my way to the club just to get a look on what Leo was doing.”                 He chuckled.                 “I hate school.” Jake admitted and Sunny looked at him. “Maybe if this thing here didn’t happen, perhaps I will still be resenting Jay with all my life. I would hate my life. I think it was hellish and depressing but I want to avenge myself. I really wanted to make Jay suffer yet when I heard him apologizing, as if the angels came down from heaven to heal this land, I immediately forgive him.” Jake chuckled. “I guess that’s just life. You forgive.”                 “But he doesn’t deserve it.” Sunny mentioned.                 “Yes. I was miserable for him but I don’t know when I forgive him, my burden felt as if it was lifted.” Jake sighed. “I guess to only way to have peace of mind is to forgive.”                 “I admire you for being such a brave person. Even I don’t think I can forgive people who called me names. But yeah, I think you’re brave for being such a forgiving person.” Sunny complimented and he smiled at Jake. Jake pat his head as the two of them watch the moonlight as they began to finally feel sleepy.                 Inside their room were where the others was sleeping. Jean was now on the bed with Jay. Ethan has been rooming with Nicky and Seven for some reasons and the two of them would be sleeping on the made bed put on the floor.                 It was 1 o’clock in the morning when they decided the fall asleep.
