The Nightmares Ch 1

Erina’s POV A tall pale lady was looking down towards me, she seemed to be aglow with a white aura surrounding her body. Her silvery hair was so long it pooled at her feet and dragged behind her as she walked towards me. Her face looked familiar…so familiar to the point that it was unnerving. She reached her hand towards my face and I could feel her icy cold fingers gently caressing my features. Her mouth opened and closed as if she was saying something to me, but no sound came out. Her expression began to grow desperate, eyes frantic as she gripped my shoulders tightly. I could feel my own panic rising as she began to shake, I could see her yelling but still, no sound came. Suddenly, blood began pouring out of every hole of her body, her face stuck in a screaming expression. “f**k!” I sat up in bed quickly, my hands gripping the sheets beneath me to help anchor myself. My heart was pounding and sweat glistened off my limbs. I sat there in the dark, breathing in and out as I attempted to calm myself. Finally feeling settled, I glanced at my clock and saw that it was 3 AM. I groaned inwardly as I rubbed my face. I had a feeling that I wouldn’t be going back to sleep tonight. I grabbed one of my jackets and slipped on some boots before leaving the room. A walk honestly sounded nice right about now. The cool night air against my face was refreshing, I definitely felt way more relaxed than before. These were one of the few times I was glad that my pack lived a bit more isolated than others. We were surrounded by mountains on one side and ruins of old on the other, one could reach the Mystic pack by boat or by a tunnel through the mountains. Mother nature had reclaimed much of the ruins, creating a dense forest that was alive with nocturnal wildlife. I looked up towards the night sky, admiring all the stars that were able to shine to their full potential. The moon, a ball of silver that aided with lighting up the night. “Can’t beat the views out here.” A voice spoke up from behind me. I gave a quick glance back to acknowledge the newcomer before returning my attention to the sky. “I’m surprised to see you awake, Sam,” I said. Sam walked over and stood next to me, his blond hair being ruffled by the gentle night wind. He looked as tired as I felt, “Yea, well, insomnia is kind of a bitch.” He murmured before looking at me with his pale blue eyes. “I thought you were taking some new stuff that Lily brought back from the mainland,” I responded with raised eyebrows. Sam’s nose wrinkled in disgust at the mention of said consumable. “That stuff tastes disgusting. I would recommend that you give it a shot to form your own judgment though.” Sam said. I chuckled at his response, but it disappeared when I noticed the worried look in Sam’s eyes. I sighed a bit, knowing what was coming. “Are you having those dreams again?” Sam asked as he came to stand closer to my side. “What gave it away?” I said with a wary smile on my face. Sam threw a look at me that said ‘really?’. I shrugged off his attention and wrapped my arms around myself. “Yea. The dreams are back.” I said looking down at my feet, my anxiety starting to rise up a bit. I never did like to talk about the dreams, they always made me uncomfortable. Sam and I heard the sound of crunching leaves and turned to see Lily coming towards us. “Looks like I’m going to need to get some stuff for you too,” Lily said with a small smile. Sam wrapped an arm around his mate and pulled her close to him. Lily brushed a strand of her golden hair behind her ear. Her blue eyes glistening with worry as she studied the both of you. “Did you get worried when you saw me missing?” Sam asked her with a smile. Lily nodded a bit, her right hand rubbing his chest in small circles, her plump lips pressed together. “I figured it was your insomnia. I just wanted to check on you, I didn’t expect to see Erina having the same problem.” Lily said. I shrugged, not really wanting to say much to avoid Lily hopping on board on prying into my dreams. I shoved my hands into my pockets and looked down towards the ground. Lily walked over to me and put a hand on my shoulder. “I’m getting the feeling that you don’t wasn’t to talk about it. How about we all go back to my house and get something warm to drink?” Lily offered. I looked up at her in surprise, I was expecting her to attempt to drag out info from me like she usually did. ‘Did I look that uneasy and uncomfortable?’ I thought to myself as my hand came up to my face. I realized that I still hadn’t answered Lily and quickly shook my head no. “Thank you for the offer, but I think I’m going to try to go back to sleep. Hopefully.” I said with the most reassuring smile I could muster. Lily looked at me quietly for a few minutes before pulling away. “Alright. You know where we live if you want to talk.” Lily said. I waved in acknowledgment as I turned to start the trek back home, I could feel Lily and Sam’s stares boring into my back. I knew they were worried about me; they’ve seen the state I got in when the dreams came. I would sometimes be awake for three or four days in a row, I rarely ate and often wandered off mindlessly on my own. There was once when my sister Emma found me passed out in one of the ruins. The incident had caused quite a stir within the pack and the leader almost had an escort for me 24/7. I had to talk the man out of it much to the displeasure of my sister. Just then I felt a sudden jolt of electricity go through my body. I stood still, shocked at the feeling and my inner wolf was stirring up. She was eager to come out and was tugging at the edge of my mind, begging to be let out. “What is it?” I asked her, I could feel her twisting and going crazy before she responded. ‘Do you not smell that delectable scent?’ She said, heavy pants lacing her voice. I paused at her words and took a deep breath. She was right, there was a hint of something sharp and fresh, I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was. I could feel my body growing warm, my heartbeat was increasing, and I could feel myself salivating. I needed whatever that scent was coming from and I needed it now.  Those being my last thoughts as the world went dark.
