Marco pov Someone is trying to kill me. And that's not a new thing with the line of my job. What's new…is how close they are getting. I'm in my office when a knock pulls me out of my thoughts. “Come in,” I say, my eyes closed, trying to figure out what's going on. My secretary walked in, dressed like she had something to prove. "Sir, these are the documents you asked for.” she says, leaning forward slightly as she places them on the desk. "Come here.” I say stretching my hands to her. She did, without other thought, beaming as she came closer. Finding her at my desk, I could feel the lustful gaze she's giving me. Women have never been a hard thing for me to get with my status and my line of job and the power I hold, most women are willing to get in my bed without me offering anything. I gave her exactly what she came for. Nothing more, nothing meaningful. Pushing her off of my body while also cleaning my hands like I have touched some dirt. “Get back to work,” I snapped at her coldly. Without looking at her direction, I could feel her gaze on me. “Do I need to repeat myself?” I ask c*****g my neck to the side. "If you don't want a bullet in your skull, get out,” I said coldly. She shook her head, before walking towards the door without another word. She knows better than to make me repeat myself. I have two secretaries, this one and my most trusted man, the secretary in my office here deals with anything relating to the company, and when required, she interferes with the cargo that's bringing our goods from Russia, so she knows better than to mess with me. On my way to the penthouse in one of my hotels, I noticed the receptionist trying to greet me, but walking past her before she could complete her word. However, just as I stepped into the elevator, I heard her mutter something under her breath. This shouldn’t have been my concern, however my interest was piqued. Maybe it was the stress of the day that made me irritated. “What did you just say?” I turned around and asked coldly, my eyes shooting daggers at her. Women of her status would cower seeing me. I didn’t expect her to reply, but she did, surprising me. “Nothing sir. Just welcoming you to our hotel.” She replied, a smile plastered on her lips, trying to hide her guilt. “Interesting.” I mutter, my attention fully on her now. I could see the fear flickering in her eyes, even as she tried her possible best to mask it with a smile. I have met so many women in my life but she piqued my interest. She was nothing special, just an ordinary receptionist. I continued staring at her as if memorizing all her expressions. Before I could say another word, my phone buzzed. I reach out for my phone, breaking the tension in the air. I fished out my phone from my pants, my expression dangerous. Who had the guts to disrupt my moment with this little receptionist? However, seeing the number displayed on the screen, I accepted the call, my expression turning serious. “There's someone in your penthouse boss,” my man said from the other end the moment the phone was pressed to my ear. "Armed.” he added before I could question him. My demeanor instantly changed. Not thinking twice, I stride to the elevator without looking back, forgetting about my encounter with the little receptionist. I've been waiting for this moment and I can't let it slip. In my world, hesitation gets you killed. And anyone bold enough to come for me should be ready to face the consequences. But this wasn't random, the security here is tight. You can't come in unless someone from inside lets you in. Then it dawned on me. “There are spies among my men,” I whispered to myself, but who could it be? By the time I reach the penthouse, my gun is already in my hand, ready to be put into action. I signal my man to check the movement of the other person from the surveillance. After getting the signal I needed,I opened the door silently, trying as much as possible not to alert the enemy. Then, I found him in the master bedroom, searching for something I don’t give a f**k about. From the way his hands were shaking, I knew he's an amateur. Before he could detect my arrival, I shot him in the leg, running to his direction to hold him down. I grabbed his neck and pinned him to the ground, my eyes cold. I quickly unarmed him with practiced ease. Without any second thought, I dragged him to the living room, leaving a trail of blood behind due to the gunshot wound on his leg. “Who sent you?" I ask, pressing the wound with my gun. He let out a blood curdling scream. However, he refused to say anything. He looked at me with dead eyes and I could feel he was plotting something from the way his eyes were flickering everywhere. Before I could do anything to stop him, his body stiffened. White form started coming out of his mouth. Poison. He hid a poison in his mouth and bit it. He was nothing but a dead soldier. I step back, trying as much as possible to avoid the foam touching me. Again, the lead to know who tried to kill me was lost. Aurora pov Before I could even settle down, I heard hurried footsteps coming towards me. “Alex” I called, lifting my head. “Why did you run away?” I tried to get an answer from him. He bent slightly, trying to catch his breath, then looked at me with his raised brows. “Of course I ran. Don’t you recognise who just walked in?” he asked, staring at me with a face full of surprise. I frowned, confused, but before I could respond, the manager's voice echoed through the hallway. “Valentine! I would like you to go serve the person in the penthouse some drink, now.” The manager shouted as he glanced at Alex besides me. Seeing that he couldn't detect my disguise, I breathed a sigh of relief, then reality hit me. Turning to Alex. “Did he just ask me to serve the person in the penthouse? Me?” I asked, my eyes almost popping out of their socket. Before Alex could answer, the manager again repeated himself louder this time. There was no mistake. Swallowing hard, I picked up the tray of drinks. “You can do this,” I murmured to myself, even though my hands were already shaking. I could still feel the dead aura radiating from that man a few minutes ago. I barely escaped him, and now, I’m going to face him alone. When I got to the door, I hesitated, praying to my star to help me out of this. With a shaky hand, I knocked. “Come in,” a deep voice ordered from inside. I pushed the door open slightly peeking through the door to see what was going on inside, that was my first mistake. The tray nearly slipped out of my grasp as my eye landed on the body sprawled across the floor, with a pool of blood by its side. A sharp gasp escaped me before I could stop it. “Drop the drink on the table and see yourself out.” The man ordered, not minding that I saw the dead man at his feet. The voice came from the other side of the room-cooled, controlled, dangerous, it runs a shiver down my spine. I did without thinking twice, my mind still struggling to process what I just saw. A body on the floor just like that.
