Hannah would be up before I was, but it still surprised me when she didn’t answer her phone. Unsure what to leave as a message, I hung up.
Then Bob asked me to join him for a Dodgers game. Celeste got called into the office, so he had a spare ticket. It was nice to be asked, but I knew he only called because he wasn’t taking Aaron for whatever reason. Bob had looked out for our drummer as a little brother since day one. The kid didn’t have blood family.
Bob doesn’t bring up anything unless it needs to be said, so we ate hot dogs, drank beer, and cheered on the home team. Thought it would be that way the whole day, until the drive home.
“I don’t like the company Aaron’s keeping.”
