Paige's Point of View
Jacob dropped his keys on the floor in shock. His mouth hung open like a fish and a look of total bewilderment settled across his face. He was completely incapable of a reply.
He looked so comical that I actually laughed. “What? Did you think I’d stick around? Watch as Aria becomes the new Luna? Dealing with the pitiful stares from my former staff members? How ridiculous!”
Jacob’s expression turned to stone.
“Aria will not become the Luna of this pack. You are my Luna.”
There wasn’t a drop of warmth within his words. Our marriage was a business, and he had always treated it as one. Nevertheless, the lack of feeling made my heart ache.
He continued. “Aria will stay here. She is injured and has nowhere to go. But to suggest she could ever become Luna is completely foolish. She is an Omega and has no status. She comes from a poor pack and her background is completely unknown. It would be pack suicide to remove you from your post and put her in charge.”
“And that’s the only reason you want me here? For the stability of the pack.”
Jacob sighed. “Paige. Our marriage is a contract. One that has brought the pack a great deal of success.”
“What about love?”
Jacob scoffed. “Love is for children.”
There it was. He didn’t love me. He didn’t even believe in love.
I concentrated on the word ‘children’ to stop myself from crying and strengthen my resolve. Having children was the whole reason I needed to leave Jacob. I wanted to fall in love again, and have children. I wanted a family.
“I’m not going to stay here and watch you fall all over your fated mate. My mind is made up. I want a divorce.”
“WILL YOU STOP SAYING THAT WORD!” Jacob roared, making me jump. “You are the Luna of MY pack and you are not going anywhere.”
I didn’t reply. He couldn’t stop me. I was his wife, I wasn’t his possession.
A cruel smile formed on his lips as he thought about something.
“Do you really think your father will allow you to divorce me? Let you bring shame on his entire family? I don’t think so, Paige. He’ll never agree to it.”
“My father might be old-fashioned, but he wouldn’t want his daughter to stay somewhere she wasn’t happy.” My voice didn’t carry much conviction. He would come down on the side of the Alpha.
“If you believe that, then you're very naive,” he said quietly.
“I am my own person. If it pisses him off, then so be it,” I shouted at him, before pushing him aside and stomping up the stairs towards the bedroom.
“Paige! Don’t you DARE walk away from me.”
Walking away from Jacob was a massive sign of disrespect. But I just didn’t care anymore. I walked into our bedroom, reached under the bed and pulled out my case.
I flung open the wardrobe and started to dump random clothes into my luggage. I wasn’t really thinking about what I was packing. I was angry and I was hurt.
Jacob didn’t follow me at first. He was too busy seething over my subordination. But eventually he must have heard me pulling garments off of hangers.
“What the hell are you doing?” he asked incredulously.
“Packing.” I snapped. Surely he wasn’t blind.
Jacob ran his hands through his hair in an act of frustration. But then he collected his thoughts. I could see him thinking hard. This was a business problem that he needed to solve.
“Ok Paige, you have my full attention. Assuming that is what you want?”
He thought this was all for show? A way of getting his attention? Good Goddess he was so arrogant.
“What I want is a pup,” I said. “And I wanted that pup with you. But that will never happen now with Aria here. There is no way Lennox will let you have a pup with someone who is not your mate. I am not going to continue my Luna duties whilst the need for a pup eats away at me from the inside. And eventually you will need an heir. An heir I will probably never be able to give you. So I’m leaving.”
Jacob crossed the room in two strides. He grabbed the case and threw it behind him. It hit the wall and put a dent in it. He grabbed me by the hand and pulled me towards the bed. His eyes were burning with a passion I had not seen in a long time.
“Paige. You are an excellent Luna, and I don’t want to lose you. I trust you and I depend on you. So if you want my pup then I will give that to you. Lennox is not in charge here, I am. But in return you must stay here for the sake of the pack.”
“So another contract?” I muttered bitterly.
“If you like,” he said and gave me a smile that took my breath away.
My traitorous heart started to accelerate. Jacob heard the change in tempo. He leaned in and kissed me like he would die if he didn’t.
“I don’t ever want to hear the word divorce ever leave your mouth again,” he whispered in my ear. “You are mine. You have always been mine. And you will always be mine.”
He nipped my earlobe and the feeling travelled straight into my lower body. I moaned loudly, and he kissed me again. It was ferocious and possessive and was everything I had ever wanted from him.
His name escaped my lips on a whisper and I swear to the Moon Goddess it drove him insane. Jacob ripped off the clothes I was wearing like a man possessed before hurriedly shaking off his own.
“Tell me Paige. I was your first, I was your only, and I will be your last.” He ran his tongue from my neck down to my navel and then stopped.”
I whimpered from the break of contact.
“Tell me Paige!” He looked up at me from between my thighs with a hunger that I hadn’t seen in a very long time.
“You’re my first and my last.” I panted as I bucked my hips up towards his mouth.
“You’re forgetting who you’re addressing Luna.” He blew between my legs and I felt my entire body catch fire.”
“You’re my first, last and only, my Alpha.” I mewled as the ache between my legs started to turn into sweet torture.
Jacob roared in victory and slammed into me so hard I was seeing stars.
Afterward, when he would usually turn his back on me and go to sleep, he held me in his arms.
“Why can’t it always be like this?” I asked him, kissing his chest.
“From now on it will be,” he promised.
“Prove it.” I giggled.
Jacob grinned and pulled me on top of him.
We made love four times that night. And it was everything I had ever dreamed it could be. I started to feel positive. Maybe all the hurt I’d experienced today was worth it. Perhaps when Jacob thought he was going to lose me, he suddenly realized how much I meant to him.
I fell asleep in his arms, warm and satisfied.
But when I awoke a few hours later Jacob was gone.
