As soon as the words were out of my mouth I knew they were the wrong ones. Her smile vanished, the shutters went down, and she leaned as far away from me as she possibly could.
"I'm thinking about returning to the pack," she told me slowly, clarifying her position. "I'm not going back with you, and I'm not going back for you."
She was utterly adamant. I was completely crushed by the weight behind those words. But at the same time, I was immeasurably proud of her. She was powerful in her own right.
"Ok" I said.
Our burgers were placed in front of us. But I'd suddenly lost my appetite.
"That's not the only caveat either." She stuffed a couple of fries into her mouth. She clearly had no such trouble with hers.
"Paige, I will give you whatever you want."
She pulled herself upright
