As I was staggering through the woods, I suddenly became aware that there was a strong possibility I might well die.
The injury that I had sustained was not healing as well as either Maddison or I had thought it would. It continued to bleed for much longer than it should have. I had taken a calculated risk, and I had made an error.
To make matters worse, I could hear the sound of thundering paws as they hit the dirt floor of the forest. There was definitely one set, possibly a second, but certainly no more than that. I allowed myself a painful chuckle. The Luna of the pack was missing, and my husband had sent two wolves out to retrieve her. How generous of him. More to the point, I had told him in our mind link that I had been overpowered.
