02 A Night to Remember

1635 Words
Asher: “Asher—er, I mean, Young Master Blackwolf, are you sure about this?” Chauncey, or Chance, as I prefer to call him, asks me for the nth time. “Lay off, Chance,” I answer a little irritably, sick and tired of having to hear that over and over again since we left the manor. Waving my hand dismissively in his direction, I turn away from him and look outside the window of the moving limousine. The memory of my conversation with my parents that happened almost five months ago is still fresh in my mind, it was as if we just had that conversation just mere five minutes ago. “Young Master, hear me out,” Chance tries again. With a resigned and frustrated sigh, I keep my attention out of the window but beat a hand in front of me, signaling Chance to go ahead. If he is going to keep on badgering me about asking me if I am sure about this, I might as well just hear everything out. That way, if I shut him down after his pitch, he’ll finally know that I am serious and get off of my back. “Fine, what is it?” “I understand why the Masters are doing this to you. I hope you understand and believe that they are not doing this to make your life miserable. They just wanted to see you settled and experience the life that they had. But…” Chance hesitates before bravely forging on. “Surely, they meant that you achieve that the normal way and not…this. Having a child only isn’t the way for—” “Haaa.” I lean back against the seat and run a frustrated hand through my hair. “I am aware of what my parents are thinking when they gave me that condition if I want to inherit the company. However, as per the contract we agreed on, they didn’t specify the process as to how I go on about their little condition.” I give him a cold smirk and steeple my fingers together, positioning my hands over my stomach as I eye Chance in front of me. “As long as I secure myself an heir and raise him until he’s old enough to prove that I have what it takes to be responsible for a life, then and only then will they finally give me the reins of the Blackwolf Industries.” I tap a finger over my own hand. “If I recall correctly, you were there as a witness, Chance. Therefore, there’s no need for me to actually refresh your memory and point out that I don’t need to get waste time finding someone and courting them for an off-chance to become their partner in life.” I shrug and look out of the window again before muttering softly under my breath, “Especially when trying to get something my parents have is getting more and more impossible with each passing day.” “Pardon, Young Master?” “Oh, nothing,” I answer in a bored tone of voice. It seems that Chance is really thinking hard about the way I am doing this because it’s unlike him to miss what I just said under my breath. And that’s fine. I don’t know what or why this is happening to me but lately, I’ve been feeling a little off. I hear the staff and people around me whispering how I’ve been colder and even more distant as of late. As much as I want to explain myself to them, I can’t. Because I can’t seem to explain this restless feeling inside of me. Not to mention…the beast inside of me has been more active as of late. Normally, whenever I give it something reasonable, it understands and settles down. But now, no matter how reasonable I get, the beast seems keen on trying to rip through me from the inside out. Just what the hell is that mutt’s problem with me anyway? It won’t even respond no matter how much I try or trick it into giving me something that will give me a hint of what its deal is. “Is this why you suddenly made me find a woman for you?” Chance’s sigh and words interrupt my train of thought and I’m glad for the distraction. Rather than trying to figure out some beast’s motivation for wanting to break free from me, I should occupy myself with what’s to come. “Indeed and I can’t wait to get this over with. Have Marcia on standby so I can make sure the deed is done. As much as possible, I don’t want to spend any more time with her than necessary.” “Yes, Young Master.” Chance sighs again and takes out his phone from his pocket and starts pressing buttons. I leave him at his job and waited for us to arrive at our destination. And fortunately for me, I don’t have to go back to thinking about my circumstances with the beast when the limousine slows to a halt. “It seems we are here, Young—” I didn’t let Chance tell me the obvious and opened the door. As I step out of the car, I saw a harried-looking valet scurrying to my side, probably embarrassed that he wasn’t able to assist me out of the vehicle. Well, that was exactly the reason why I didn’t wait for anyone to open the door for me. I, Asher Blackwolf, am rich, powerful, and have every means to do as I want. But that doesn’t mean that I am incapable of doing little things such as opening car doors and getting out of it. Even though it should be something that’s commonly done nowadays, I refuse to be subjected to that and be treated like an invalid. Growl… Oh? It seems that the beast has become a little more docile now for some reason and is agreeing with me. Finally got that bug out of your bug, mutt? Grr… I snort at its annoyed response and set my inner conversation aside. Now’s not the time for me to figure out the puzzling attitude of the beast right now. As I have said to Chance, I want to deal with this already and get this over with. I don’t want to spend any more time here after I make sure that I’ve done what I had to do. “Young Master, why did you get out of the car on your own?” Chance immediately nags as soon as he got out of the car and was heading my way. “Can it, Chance. I never wanted to be assisted on such trivial things as if I were an old man or a cripple. Now let’s go. Where is she?” I didn’t wait for Chance to respond and I stride from the underground parking area, arranged by my friend who owns the whole building as well as the residential complexes near it. This is so I can discreetly make my move without anyone knowing about it from the manor. This way, they won’t be able to stop me. Since Chance is already nagging me to death, I dread to think the staff manor would do. Especially when staff mostly consists of Chance’s family—their generation has been working for the Blackwolfs even in the past. *** “Is this her?” I ask no one in particular as I step inside the dark room. “Yes, Young Master,” Chance answers while standing in line with the others by the door. Even with my superior sight, I can’t really make out what’s inside the room, let alone the woman who I know is sitting naked on the bed and waiting for me. I also don’t know why but the moment I tried to take a whiff of the air in the room…I never thought that it would be either one of the greatest mistakes of my life or one of the best things that happened to me. The room smells of alcohol and…something else that I can’t pinpoint. Whatever it was, the beast and I didn’t deem it harmful and it looks like it doesn’t have an effect on Chance and the others who had gone with us. However, it definitely had a significant effect on the both of us. “Leave us…” I can’t get the words out of my mouth fast enough. If it took Chance and the men even a second longer before they completely left the room, I would have hauled them out myself and slammed the door in their faces. I don’t know what was happening to me. All I know is that I need to get close to her. I need to feel her and— Mine! The beast in me roars and tries to rip its way out of me. It wants control but no matter how strong it is, no matter how strange I am feeling right now, the fact that the woman we’re spending the night with is a fragile human. If I don’t want to kill her, I have to rein it in as best as I can. However… When she’s finally in my arms, I feel it. Her heat. It’s been so long since I felt this kind of heat from someone. And there’s just nothing I want more than r****h her. And r****h her I did. Even though I am trying my best to keep the beast in line, there are some things I can’t help from doing myself. Little did I know, no matter how much I denied myself days, months, or years later, that it was a night to remember.
