Chapter Five: The Slaughter of a Head

1559 Words
Just as I was struggling with Xiaoxi, a soft voice suddenly called out from inside the arched doorway. The voice was faint, tinged with a hint of eeriness, and tinged with a mournful lament. Xiaoxi immediately lowered her hand, her eyes widening in disbelief. She stared at the doorway for a moment, then turned back to look at me, her expression seemingly questioning. How the hell was I supposed to know who this was? But the voice immediately reminded me of Ghost Hair. He hadn't chased after us yet. Could it be that Ghost Hair's owner actually lived here? I put my index finger to my side in a shushing gesture, then gestured to my ankle and waist, indicating that it might be Ghost Hair. Xiaoxi trembled in fright, beckoning me with a pained expression. I turned around curiously, tilting my head forward, as if asking what was wrong. "Come here." I quickly covered my mouth again after saying this, as if afraid the other person would hear. I shook my head and said in a low voice, "No, I'm a pervert. What if I can't control myself after I get there?" Xiao Xi puffed out her cheeks in anger; you have to admit, she looks quite shrewish when she's angry. She glared at me and said, "Fine, I'll go over there. If you dare to have any improper thoughts about me, I'll cut..." She then covered her face and ran over. "Come..." The word was still being repeated inside the door. If I hadn't been distracted by this girl, I would have been scared out of my wits. My skin was covered in goosebumps, and I wasn't in the mood for jokes anymore. I leaned close to Xiao Xi's ear and asked, "Do you still have the copper coin sword?" She shook her head: "I only brought two talismans. The copper coin sword belongs to Aunt Ting." I understood. It was Lei Xueting who broke the window and threw the copper coin sword. I knew that with her cowardly behavior, there was no way she could have scared Xiao Qing away. Right now, without the copper coin sword, even if there was still a talisman left in my bag, it would have been soaked and ruined by the river. The silent incantation isn't usable in every situation; it's unreliable. Now I'm in a dilemma again. Who knows if the person inside the door is a ghost? If not, then I'm stuck at both ends. I glanced at the door, then looked back at the way I came, and instantly made a decision: go inside. On land, anything is possible, but underwater, I'm completely at their mercy. So I waved to Xiaoxi and stepped onto the stairs. Xiaoxi followed behind, and I led the way, flashlight in hand, through the round door. The moment I entered, I felt the chilling air inside, sending shivers down my spine. The doorway led to a long, arched passageway, with walls and floor made entirely of bluestone. Having lived a secluded life in a mountain village for so long, without even a television at home, I knew very little about ancient tombs. Seeing such a long passageway was a novelty; I hadn't realized ancient tombs had corridors. After taking a few steps forward, a sudden gust of wind swept past my back. Startled, I turned around to find Xiao Xi grinning coldly, her hand once again poised to strike the back of my neck. At the same time, it dawned on me: I'd fallen into her trap again, unwittingly caught in her trap. But as her hand struck my neck, I quickly channeled my inner energy into the meridians of my back. Striking the meridians in the neck would temporarily obstruct the flow of energy, causing oxygen deprivation in the brain and leading to unconsciousness. My timing was just right; the energy was already blocked, and this surge of energy cleared the obstruction. I only felt dizzy for a moment, then regained consciousness. However, I still pretended to fall to the ground. In terms of martial arts, I was no match for her, and Lei Xueting might be hiding inside. Pretending to be unconscious would lower their guard and give me an opportunity. Xiao Xi kicked me, cursing, "You scoundrel, you got away with taking advantage of me!" I endured the pain, not daring to flinch, bent down to snatch the flashlight from my hand, and took a few steps forward, saying, "Aunt Ting, I'm here. Are you here?" The quiet passageway offered no response except for the echo. She seemed a little uneasy, pacing back and forth. After a while, I heard footsteps coming from the end of the passage. She exclaimed happily, "Aunt Ting! I followed your instructions and led him to the riverbank. You said someone would meet me, but how did he get dragged into the river by a water ghost? Luckily, this little rascal was clever and rescued me, and he even stumbled into this ancient tomb by accident. You…" After speaking for a while, there was still only footsteps on the other side, no response. She realized something was wrong. Staring at the end of the passageway, I asked, "Aunt Ting, is that you?" Still no answer. A heavy atmosphere hung over the long, dark passageway, making me feel suffocated. As the footsteps drew closer, a dark figure appeared at the end of the passageway. Xiao Xi shone her flashlight and saw a person dressed in white, with long hair obscuring their face, the ends of which reached their toes. Seeing this, a chill ran down my spine. There was no shadow behind them; it was definitely a ghost! "Who are you?" Xiao Xi calmly demanded. She seemed quite bold; she had only pretended to confuse me earlier. Thinking of being tricked again, I gritted my teeth in hatred, thinking that if I succeeded this time, I'd definitely get my fortune told. The ghostly hand lifted a strand of long hair, revealing half a deathly pale face—pale as hell than ash. However, it looked quite familiar at first glance. Then, a strand of long hair rose up, almost revealing its entire face, and I immediately recognized it as Xiao Qing. I gasped in shock. What bad luck! I couldn't even escape it after falling into the river. Looks like my manhood is doomed today. "You're the little hooligan's bride?" Xiao Xi was taken aback, tilting her head to the side. "That's right. You ruined my plans today, and you even dared to trespass on my territory. You've walked right into my trap." Xiao Qing said, a chilling, sinister smile appearing on her face. Then she let her long hair down, continuing to cover her face, making her look even more terrifying. Xiao Xi scratched her head and said, "Aunt Ting clearly said she wanted me to come to the ancient tomb at the bottom of the river. Are there two tombs here?" "There's only one tomb. Your Aunt Ting didn't come, because no one is allowed to enter my territory." Xiao Qing said coldly. "Oh, sorry, I went into the wrong room. Your groom is yours, bye-bye!" Xiao Xi turned and ran after saying that. "Hehehe..." A chilling, eerie laugh echoed from Xiao Qing's body, reverberating through the corridor. I broke out in a cold sweat. It laughed and tossed its long hair, which stretched endlessly forward, instantly catching up with Xiao Xi's neck. But then, just as the girl reached me, it suddenly slammed backward onto me. This time, it couldn't hold back any longer. Even though it was being strangled by the ghostly hair, it still had the mind to curse me: "You...you actually...pretending...shameless..." As the ghostly hair tightened, it could no longer make a sound, its face turning red from holding it in, clearly about to die. Seeing I couldn't keep up the act any longer, I pushed it away, sat up, and bit my finger, trying to chant a silent incantation. This time, Xiao Qing was on guard. The ghostly hair retreated rapidly, carrying Xiao Xi to the end of the corridor. “Little Fish, don’t rush. Wait until I eat you, then you’ll look even more beautiful, and then we’ll consummate our marriage.” Xiao Qing’s tone returned to its previous tone; if you closed your eyes, you’d never guess it was a ghost. Hearing it say it wanted to eat people, I couldn’t help but shudder and hurriedly waved my hands, saying, “Eat me if you want, but consummating our marriage is out of the question.” “What, you despise me? Don’t you know I ate many people to become more beautiful? Do you want to see what’s hidden under my long hair?” This ghost woman didn’t care whether I agreed or not, and parted all her long hair, revealing things that looked like walnuts. Because of the distance, it was hard to see clearly. Suddenly, it floated forward more than ten meters. I picked up the flashlight Xiao Xi had dropped from the ground and took a closer look; I almost died of fright. Those walnut-sized things were all human heads. The ghost faces were small, but complete, each one baring its teeth and glaring at me, making me suddenly feel the urge to urinate!
