"Your money?" I looked at Rex coldly. "That account holds Carlisle family's assets. Since when did any of it belong to you? If anyone should be sitting in prison for asset theft, it's probably you."
I immediately asked to see the branch manager. I was one of the bank's longtime private clients and had dealt with the branch manager countless times before. I assumed that once he arrived, this ridiculous farce would finally end. After all, I had rushed over in a hurry today and had not even brought my assistants or bodyguards with me.
But the moment the branch manager arrived, he walked straight past me and greeted Rex and Yara first. Only afterward did he turn toward me with a hostile expression.
"Miss Carlisle, I already know everything," he said sharply. "You're not some wealthy heiress. The money in that account belongs to Mr. Cresswell. You illegally transferred his assets into your possession. The fact that he hasn't called the police yet is already generous enough, and you still came here trying to withdraw the money. Do you have any shame at all?"
I stared at him in disbelief. What was wrong with these people? Had everyone in this bank completely lost their minds? How could they twist the truth this shamelessly?
I slapped a hand against the desk. "Enough. I want to access the account."
"The account?" Yara's voice shot up instantly. "That money belongs to the Cresswell family. It belongs to me and my fiancé. What right do you have to touch it?"
She lunged at me again, raising her hand for another slap. But I had no intention of standing there and taking it. I kicked her hard enough to send her sprawling onto the floor.
"I said," I repeated coldly, "I want to see the account."
Yara sat there stunned for a second before her face flushed bright red. Ever since getting involved with Rex, she had clearly become accustomed to being treated like royalty here. With the Cresswell family backing her, everyone in the bank probably catered to her every whim. Someone like her had likely never embarrassed herself this badly before.
"Rex!" she cried immediately. "That b***h hit me in front of everyone! She clearly doesn't respect the Cresswell family at all. You have to stand up for me. You can't let her get away with this!"
Rex pulled her up protectively and shot me a furious glare. "Stella, are you done yet?" he snapped. "Do you really want me to call the police and blow this whole thing up? Fine. You want to check the account so badly? Then go ahead. Maybe once you see it for yourself, you'll finally stop making a scene."
He exchanged a glance with the branch manager, who immediately led me over to verify the account information.
But the moment I saw the account holder's name, my breath caught. The account that had always been under my name now belonged to Rex.
For a second, my mind went blank. How had this happened? Had Rex really managed to transfer billions in Carlisle family's assets into his own name without me noticing?
The others saw it too. The looks around me immediately turned even more contemptuous.
"I knew she was lying from the start."
"She probably came here hoping to scam the Cresswell family."
"How can someone be this delusional? Does she think every dollar in the world belongs to her?"
"Call the police. People like her belong in prison."
I turned sharply toward Rex. "You changed the account information. Rex, do you have any idea what happens when you cross the Carlisle family?"
The more I spoke, the colder my chest felt. I reached for his collar, only for one of his bodyguards to shove me backward.
Rex tightened his arm around Yara and looked at me like I was beneath him. "Stop pretending to be the victim, Stella. A family like yours could sell everything you own and still never come close to this kind of money. Get out while I'm still willing to be polite. Otherwise, believe it or not, I can wipe out the Carlisle family overnight."
Nestled against him, Yara let out a smug little laugh. "If you ask me, she deserves to experience bankruptcy herself. Maybe then she'll finally understand what happens when you go against the Cresswell family."
Their arrogance was almost absurd. But instead of getting angrier, I found myself calming down. Because after thinking it through carefully, I finally realized what Rex was trying to do.
