Chapter 1 The Meeting

-AMELIA *ding ding* “Welcome to ‘Ritas mystical café’. Go ahead and take a seat anywhere and I’ll be right with you,” I yelled over my shoulder. I was currently juggling 5 plates for the Simmons family. They come in every Saturday afternoon. Their son, Billy, is autistic and in love with the concept of magic, so I try to make his experience as magical as possible, literally the sweetest 12-year-old boy I have ever met. “Alright Billy, I have your favorite pancakes here, I made sure to add something special in the spell that went into these puppies, just for you,” I said with a wink as I placed his order in front of him. He really likes fruit of all kinds, so I have been able to convince him that the fruit baked into the pancakes were placed there by magic. I even mix him a special drink that looks clear at first, but once you stir it up, it changes colors. We don’t even have “magic” food on the menu, but I buy a few things to make sure that I can give little Billy the best experience possible. “APPLES!” I hear billy squeal in excitement as I make my way to the newcomers, who have seated themselves in the back left corner of the cafe. I walked up with a genuine smile on my face, he never failed to put a smile on my face with his excitement. But the moment I reached the table, the moment I lifted my eyes to greet and take the orders of the 4 new customers seated in front of me, my smile fell, for a moment. I could feel it, deep in my chest, something was wrong. I couldn’t tell you what it was, for I have never been in the presence of someone to give off the auras these men were giving off. It was intoxicating, overbearing, and just…wrong. I usually can get small flashes of the thoughts running through people’s heads, but these men were like full on movies but on fast forward. ‘Running through the forest, food, smells, curiosity and wolves. It was this weird loop, but it went so fast that I couldn’t make sense of anything that they were feeling, all except one. Just as I make eye contact with the most beautiful male specimen I have ever seen, everything goes quiet. He was tall and built like a linebacker with the cleanest beard I had ever seen. You could tell he took care of himself. His hair was this light brown tousled atop his head like he had been running his fingers through it all day. But his eyes, those bright green orbs staring back at me seemed to have their own glow behind them. There were captivating, leaving me breathless. All the emotions in the building that I felt like a buzz in the back of my mind, went silent. All the flashes of imagines disappeared, and I was left with one single thought, one single view. “MINE” I titled my head, never taking my eyes from him, wondering if I heard him correctly, as he mumbled it under his breath. But as he spoke the word, I could see it in my head. “Hierium.. um, im sorry, that wasn’t English, let me try that again,” clearing my throat and shaking my head trying to clear it from all the chaos currently going through my mind. “My name is Amelia and I'll be your server on this mystical day, what can we get started for ya?” “Hello darlin, we will need a moment if you don’t mind, but we will all take a round of coffee,” The man sitting to the right of the guy I was still stealing glances at spoke first, giving me the opportunity to distract myself from the strange interaction I was having with the god like man in front of me. “Absolutely, we will have that right out for ya,” I smiled to the best of my ability and hightailed it to the back. “Rita, can you get table duodecim 4 coffees and..and get their order when ready, I need to step out, like now.” I rushed out the back door without even hearing her response. I needed a moment of clarity; I needed to breathe and there was only one place that could offer that. There was a hide-away in the back of the building that Rita put there just for me, when I needed a moment, when everyone else’s issue’s become too much. It was more like a mini hide away on a bench, to be honest. It was round and had a small entrance, with a large vent on the roof, and a comfortable bench in it, so I could smoke a little ganja and get my head cleared enough to continue the day. At first Rita was furious to find me smoking pot in the back of her café, on my first day on the job. But I broke down in front of this woman, I told her everything. That I was an empath, that I could see peoples true thoughts and intentions, that we moved to this town to hide my abilities because of the torment I received when people found out. And that after years of my father trying to medicate me to make me “better,” I found a doctor who showed me the many qualities and benefits of m*******a. I explained it all to her. Of course, I said all of it in such a rush that I am not sure she got all of it. But to my relief, she just hugged me, grabbed my bowl, put it in my hand, smiled and walked back inside. It shocked me, but since that day she has treated it like it was exactly what it was, my medication. I never told my dad, and just convinced him that the doctor had found a medication that worked. Of course, he found out the day I got kicked out, but I hid it for 3 years. Rita actually supports it now, she even will buy some and leave it in my cove when she can, just to show that she “supports” what makes me different. “Feel better?” Rita asks, just as I was stepping out of my hideaway. Nearly scaring me out of my skin. “I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO THAT!” I yelled, falling back into the cove. “But right after a bowl is the only time I can ever scare you,” she pouts as she reaches down to help me up. “Fair enough,” I mumble as I brush myself off, and spray the perfume I keep in the cove to hide the lingering smell on me. “Were you able to complete that tables order?” “Unfortunately, no, I told them you had stepped out for a break, and the big scary looking one all but growled that they would wait to order til you returned from your break, and they all silently agreed.” “Huh,” was all I could muster. Why would they want me to take their order so badly, Mr. Mine had all but demanded it, from the sounds of it. “If you want, I can send Dad over to handle that table,” Rita offered, clearly seeing the discomfort in my body language. “No, its alright, if I let one man scare me, then they will all think they can, and I don’t want that. I will take care of it, thanks tho.” Giving Rita a hug and plastering that ‘customer service’ smile on my face, I headed in, ready to deal with the weirdness. Luckily, after my break, my ‘gift’ was quieter, making it all easier to deal with. “Sorry for the wait, what can I get for you?” I stated after walking up to the table, doing my best to not look at the god like man. Even though I could feel his gaze on my skin like it was burning, but in the best possible way. It was so warm, yet tingly, but I chalked it up to the bud, maybe I hit it one too many times. “I waited this long, I figured a couple minutes more wouldn’t hurt,” Mr. mine stated, throwing me off and causing me to whip around and stare at him. What did he mean by “he’s waited this long” I was gone for like 10 minutes. “I am so sorry, but I was due for my break, and had to make an important call, but Rita was more than willing to take your orders.” At this point I was a little irritated, they chose to wait. Don’t make this my fault! “That is definitely not what he meant. Now I think we will all just take the burger meals, all rare, and an extra basket of fries for the table..... please.” The tallest one spoke one again, his voice giving this booming sound of authority, as they all just nodded in agreement. “ I will have that right out for you,” I stated as I turn to leave. But Mr. Mine, I really got to stop calling him that, lightly took hold of my forearm to stop me from leaving. A strong current shot up my arm, making me want to melt into his touch, but I flinched instead. Hoping he got the hint to let go. This was all getting weirder and weirder. “I am sorry, I just wanted to apologize,” he stated as he softly released my arm, “ I think I came off as rude, and it was not my intention. My name is Emmett, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He reached his hand out once more to offer a shake. Not knowing how to react, I just smiled, turned around and left. Probably not the best reaction. But what can you do.
