Chapter 6 Will the last chance of survival be gone?

933 Words
Password? What password? Their company was on the twelfth floor. Elvis had never climbed the stairs before during his working here for no more than half a year. How could he know the password? Looking at Elvis’s expressions of utter embarrassment, Abigail could not help laughing. Suddenly, they heard loud taps on the doors from the rooms. People inside must have all died or become zombies. Hearing the sound outside, the zombies were excited and wanted to come out and eat them. “Ah!” Abigail’s laughs disappeared and cried out when she heard the sound of the taps made by the zombies. Elvis pulled her into his arms and covered her mouth with his hand. “Hush!” Abigail struggled for a while instinctively and then realized the noises she made would only further excite the zombies, so she stopped yelling. They stood there quietly. After a while, the zombies also quieted down when they heard no human voice. Surrounded by silence, they two kept standing that way for a long time. Abigail then realized that she was in a man’s arms, with her mouth being covered by his one hand and her chest being touched by the other. She also grabbed his hand out of fear now and made herself much closer to him. Abigail blushed. However, she was afraid that any sound she made would wake the zombies, she could only pat the back of Elvis’s hand gently. Slim as she was, her breasts were quite another, Elvis thought to himself. Actually, Elvis already realized that his hand was not in a proper position, he pretended to be as natural as possible to feel less embarrassed. Then Elvis let go of her slowly as nothing had happened. In that situation, it was better than they come back to the company. “Let’s go back,” Elvis said to her in a very low voice. Abigail nodded her head and then they come back as carefully as possible. Reaching the company, they closed the security door and went to the office area in case the zombies would hear them if they spoke at the doorway. Elvis asked, “What do you mean by saying password?” Abigail somewhat calmed down after coming in. She replied, “In this building, every floor has a security gate, which was installed to guard against thieves. We’ve got to have a password to pass through the gate.” “How do you know that?” Elvis asked. “I heard it from Manager Alexander when he told the password thing to a porter who carried things through the staircase. We have bought much big stuff that day.” Elvis also remembered that. Last month, the manager’s office indeed had one big new sofa. It was clearly too big for the elevator to carry. “Do you still remember the password?” Elvis frowned and stared at Abigail asking. “N..no. I forgot it.” Abigail lowered her head timidly. Elvis did not know it was because he's staring at her embarrassed her or she felt sorry for forgetting the password. Was there only one way left now? Should they take the risks and leave by the elevator? Who knew what they have to face when the door of the elevator open! Elvis knew there was no time left for him to hesitate. Now that they were unable to take the stairs, the elevator was the only choice. There was no time to lose; the electricity supply would not last long. Having made up his mind, he told Abigail about that and proposed to go immediately. Being indecisive, Abigail agreed to go with him together. When they were about to leave, Elvis’s heart was frozen when he looked at the corner of the wall and noticed that the air purifier had already stopped working. He went to press the light switch, but the lights did not on. He tried again, and the result remained the same. The power went out, and they were trapped here on the twelfth floor! Elvis was infuriated and vent his anger by kicking at the air purifier, the herald of the bad news. Elvis kicked at it until it fell apart. Abigail was puzzled at that in the beginning, but later she also realized the power cut and understood why Elvis was so angry. Then air conditioners and computer monitors had the same fate as the air purifier. After venting his anger, Elvis calmed down and sat on a chair, saying bitterly and jokingly, “Abigail, we are stuck here. That is the destiny of us. Let me chop these chairs and desks for firewood, then I kill myself. You can feed on me when you run out of food. You may live long enough for people to come and rescue you. What do you think?” “There may still be a glimpse of life there.” “What chance do you think we still have? Pull out the zombies’ intestines and use them as a rope to climb down?” Hearing those words, Abigail turned white due to nausea and fear. She did her best to suppress the feeling to vomit and said, “We can also use a key to open the safety door…” “Where is the key?” At the sound of that, Elvis saw hope again and his eyes were brightened. Instead of replying him, Abigail looked at the door of the manager’s office.
