“Breakfast is ready” Elizabeth said as she made her way to the masters bedroom, she knocked on the door, Veronica opened the door and sighed in disgust, “yes we know”as she rolled her eyes and turned her face.
“You don’t have to be mean Veronica” Samuel said as he smiled back at Elizabeth and walked out of the room towards the hallway, are the kids ready to eat now? Please call them let’s all have breakfast together, it’s indeed a beautiful morning, the sun is out and air smells like fresh roses,Samuel said with a smile on he’s face as he inhales the breath of fresh air
Daddy Daddy!! Elvis screamed as he ran toward the dinning table, he then slipped and fell on the ground he had sprained hes ankle and he’s eyes filled with tears as it rolled down he’s cheeks
Veronica rushed out of the room and yelled at Elizabeth “haven’t I told you to never allow Elvis play in the living room” your so stupid and pathetic
Of course you wouldn’t understand, because you have never lived in a house so big and fancy, you and you miserable child live in a dirty rat hole.haven’t I told your child never to play with my son, they are not of the same world, in this world we are royalties and you two are peasants”.She said as she scoffed and laughed at her
“That’s enough” Samuel said as he went to pick Elvis off the floor and dust he’s clothes , i would take you to see a doctor soon after breakfast, he said
Elizabeth wasn’t surprised about all what Veronica said, because it wasn’t the first time she has been insulted or looked down upon by her, she held Gracie’s hand and they both made their way out of the living room
“Mummy don’t be sad, one day I would be rich and I promise to take care of you” Gracie said as she smiled at her mom with love in her eyes , she then leaned on her and held her so tight. Elizabeth tried so hard to hold back her tears as she wrapped her hands around her and kissed her forehead
Just then Samuel approached Elizabeth and pleaded with her, he apologized for all what he’s wife Veronica said and said he would talk to her
“It’s not a problem sir, I understand “you are so kind to us sir Elizabeth said as she bowed her head to thank him
Elizabeth was a poor single mom, who had no job or even a shelter under her head but a child to raise alone
She worked as a maid for Samuel and Veronica which were very rich people
In their society they where being called the billionaire they both a had a son named Elvis
Veronica hated Elizabeth so much because she knew her husband Samuel was so fond of Elizabeth and her daughter Gracie
He was always nice to them and on several occasions she had caught him staring at her while she cleaned
Apparently Elvis wasnt the real child of Samuel, because Veronica has been having an affair with her husbands best friend Jerry
Of course Samuel couldn’t birth a child because he’s impotent since the last car crash he had some years back
Veronica was aware but kept it a secret because she needed to give Samuel a heir that would inherit all the money and properties in the future, she was all about the money and fame
Veronica knew about Samuel’s health condition because he’s best friend was the director of the hospital he was rushed to
But Veronica begged Jerry to keep this a secret,
Samuel live a life of lies and deceit, Veronica never truly loved him , it was always all about the money, fame and power she gets
The tension in the mansion was as thick as the morning fog, hiding secrets that could shatter the "royal" image Veronica worked so hard to maintain. While Samuel sat at the head of the table, nursing a cup of black coffee and watching the empty chair where Elizabeth usually stood to serve, the silence was deafening.
Samuel wasn’t as blind as Veronica believed. As he looked at Elvis—who was currently sobbing into a silk handkerchief—he searched the boy’s face for a single trace of his own features. He found none. He remembered the car crash vividly; the smell of burning rubber and the cold realization the doctors had shared with him in private.
He knew the truth about his own body. What he didn't know was whose blood truly ran through Elvis's veins.
In the cramped staff quarters at the back of the estate, Elizabeth sat on a wooden stool, her heart heavy. Gracie was busily drawing a picture of a large house with a garden full of roses.
"Mummy," Gracie whispered, not looking up from her crayon. "Why does the lady with the mean eyes hate us? We haven't done anything wrong."
Elizabeth smoothed her daughter’s hair. "Some people have so much gold in their pockets that they forget to keep any kindness in their hearts, Gracie. But remember, we are rich in ways she will never understand."
The front door chimes echoed through the hallway. It was Jerry, Samuel’s best friend and the keeper of the medical records. He walked in with a confident stride, his eyes immediately locking onto Veronica.
Samuel stood up, his expression unreadable. "Jerry. You’re early. I suppose you’re here to check on Elvis's ankle?"
"Of course," Jerry said, his voice smooth. "And to check on the family. You know I always look out for your interests, Samuel."
The look that passed between Jerry and Veronica was brief, but Elizabeth, who had just entered the room to clear the dishes, caught it. She saw the way Jerry’s hand lingered near Veronica’s as he passed her. She saw the flash of panic in Veronica's eyes—the fear of a woman whose throne was built on a foundation of sand.
Later that afternoon, Elizabeth was dusting the library when she overheard a heated whisper from the balcony.
"He's starting to ask questions, Jerry," Veronica hissed. "The way he looks at Elvis... he knows something isn't right."
"Then we speed up the timeline," Jerry replied coldly. "Once the new trust fund papers are signed, it won't matter what he knows. We’ll have the power, and he’ll have nothing."
Elizabeth gasped, accidentally knocking a small jade figurine off the shelf. The whispering stopped instantly.
