Five years had passed since that fateful night. Deminan's grandma had passed away, leaving him alone to fend for himself. But he wasn't alone for long. He had married Sonia a year ago, and she was now pregnant with their child. Deminan had been working multiple menial jobs to make ends meet, providing for both himself and Sonia.
On this particular day, Sonia was sitting in the parlour, waiting for Deminan to return from his errands. She was feeling sleepy, but she was determined to stay awake until her husband came back. As she sat there, she heard a knock on the door. She rushed to open it, thinking that it might be Deminan returning early.
But to her surprise, she found two strangers standing at her doorstep. They were dressed in police uniforms, and Sonia's heart skipped a beat as she realized who they were. Her eyes widened in fear as she tried to compose herself.
"Hello, we are detectives" one of the detectives said, flashing his identity card. "Can we come in? We have some questions to ask you."
Sonia's mind was racing as she tried to think of what to say. She didn't want to let them in, but she also didn't want to arouse their suspicion. "My...my husband is not around," she stammered. "Can you come back tomorrow?"
The detectives looked at each other, seemingly discussing something in silence. Then, one of them spoke up. "Okay, ma'am. We'll come back tomorrow morning. Please make sure your husband is around."
Sonia nodded, trying to hide her fear. "Yes, of course. Thank you."
The detectives thanked her and departed, leaving Sonia feeling shaken and anxious. She closed the door and sat back down, trying to calm herself down. "I did it for self-defence," she whispered to herself. "No...I don't regret it. But...what if they came for something else, nobody really knows about that day except Demian and I."
She adjusted her clothes and tried to relax, but her mind was racing with thoughts of what might happen tomorrow. She knew that she had to tell Deminan about the police visit, and she hoped that he would know what to do.
The next morning, Deminan returned from buying groceries, unaware of the police visit the day before. As he approached the house, he noticed a police car parked outside. His heart skipped a beat as he wondered what was going on.
He walked towards the police car, and the detectives alighted from the vehicle. "Good morning, sir," one of them said. "Are you Mr Deminan Dave, the husband of Sonia?"
Deminan nodded, his mind racing with thoughts of what might be happening. "Yes, that's me. What's going on?"
The detectives looked at each other, and then one of them spoke up. "We need to ask you and your wife some questions. May we come in?"
Deminan's heart was racing with fear, but he tried to compose himself. "Yes, of course. Please come in."
As the detectives followed Deminan into the house, Sonia's eyes met his, filled with fear and anxiety. Deminan tried to reassure her with a gentle smile, but he couldn't shake off the feeling that their lives were about to change forever.
