chapter 2 THE DINER

Emma

when I walked downstairs after doing my morning routine, I took a look at the dinner table and saw the letter, still unred. 'ha must have forgotten about it, I thought while I went to the letter to read it. and what was written on it shook me to the core.

'a BALL, A f*****g BALL, AND EVERYONE OF THE AGE FRON 16 TO 25 HAVE TO ATTEND.

wait, maybe they don't want any humans in the ball.' i thought to myself and continued to read the letter until I read that werewolves, vampires, AND humans between the age of 16 to 25 have to attend.....fuck....I'm 21 years old after re-reading the letter a couple of times, my brother Adrien came downstairs and just walked past me.

"good morning Emma," Adrien said while yawning. "I see you read the letter from the castle, soo when are you going to leave," Adrien said like he knew what was written on it.

"When did you read the letter, ?" I said sitting down at the dinner table. it was 5 o, clock in the morning, so it was still early, but I had an early shift and had to get to the restaurant before six-thirty. and Adrian had school that started at eight.

"yeah," Adrien said while making scrambled eggs for me and himself." I read it yesterday before going to bed, and let me say, it's going to be a fun trip to the castle," he told me like he saw this as an opportunity to have a break from studying, ha keep dreaming I thought "yeah it's going to be fun and a nice break for me, maybe now I can help you to study in this trip," I said while smiling all innocent to him "WHAT but, but, but when people are on trips, they usually don't work OR study at all Emma," he said, all hope was gone from him, "take it as payback for yesterday little man"

Emma went to work after breakfast, she had to work twelve hours without breaks to support her brother through high school and college. life was hard for Emma but, she always tried to make the best out of it. Emma was always a hardworking girl and a beautiful and smart one at that too. people of all species called her the untouchable rose, because every time someone, either a werewolf, vampire, or human proposed to her, she would turn down the offer immediately, claiming she didn't have time for relationships because of work and taking care of her little brother. and so the men in the town hade to stop trying to make her his. but as always, there's always someone that refuses to give up.

when Emma arrived at her workplace she immediately started to take down the chairs and wipe the floors. she also started to bake the goods,

"good morning Emma," the fat cook said walking right into the kitchen and started to get ready, soon the shop will be open and the first customer will come in like always.

"HEY, WAITRESS THIS INT WHAT I ORDERED" a customer yelled out, ' ugh not again' i thought as I made my way to the customer whit with a smile, that everyone that saw it knew right away that it was fake. 'oh no its mandy' i though, mandy aka the b***h of the city a, for some reason, she hadn't leaven me alone since we were in elementary school and until now. and she sometimes comes to the cafe I work at, with her minions to either annoy me or embarrass me in front of everyone for no good reason,

"Mandy," I said whit an overly sweet fake voice" what can I help you with today,

"oh, the poor orphan waitress is here everyone," mandy said snickering while the other on the table just laughed at her comment about me, ' and here we go again, "Emma thought as she stood beside the table.

" well I ordered a salad, but the other waitress gave me a burger instead, take it away and get my salad," she said whit a smirk on her face. Emma took the burger plate with her to the back inside the kitchen and started to make a salad, with a lot of white pepper and chili she hides under the salad, ' now you get what you deserve b***h' Emma thought as she took out the salad and set it in front of mand7y with a smile "your salad" she said and got back to the counter to help a customer pay. after about five minutes she heard mandy yell, with her tongue out and ran out of the cafe. before her minions could follow her the other waitress whoos maned Lisa, a werewolf stops them and made them pay extra for the food because of the commotion and the burger, but they didn't know that.

Lisa looked at me "was it your fault she ran out like that" she whispered to me with a smile on her face,

" maybe or maybe not," Emma said while showing off a smirk.

" by the way are you ready for the ball, THE ROYAL BALL," Lisa says overly enthusiastic for the ball. "yeah it's going to be a lot of fun," I say with little to no enthusiasm at all. "by the way, who's going to drive you there, I know you don't have a car, and it's tiresome to take the bus all the way there" 'f**k, I haven't thought about that at all, and in the letter, it's said that everyone in the age range that doesn't show up has to pay a hefty sum of money to the city they live in, f**k my life. I can't afford that. and the bus ride there either' Lisa who's known Emma for more than five years knew of her situation "why don't you and your brother take a ride whit me. we're going the same way anyway. and I'd love some company on the ride there"

I couldn't Mountain my happiness, "really, that would help a lot, God I'm so thankful to have you as a friend" 'it's like a truckload of stress is off of my shoulders right now. and trust me, it's a good feeling'

" We have to leave in about three days because the ball is in five days and it takes a whole day of driving from city to the capital city, I'll pick you and Adrien up from your place,"

Lisa and I are the same age, her parents run this cafe, after my parent's accidents, none of my relatives wanted to take me and Adrien in, they said we were a burden they didn't want to have on their shoulders. I went to a lot of different places until Lisa's parents took me in, claiming that they knew my parents, and so they gave me a job, a stable salary and helped me and Aiden trout a lot of hardship in these years, which I'm grateful for. after I started to work at the cafe, I met Lisa go also worked there to help out her family. we hit it off immediately and become friends.

after a long day at work, and as always it was a long day with many customers talking about only one thing, the royal ball. As she was walking home, Emma had to walk past the elementary school, she stops for a while at the entrance and took a look at the entrance where the parents usually come to pick up the little children.

"mom, dad. I miss you a lot

life is tough, but as you guys usually said, no gain without pain, ill go through this with Adrien by my side" Emma said and started to walk again, this time with a small smile on her small but red rosy lips.

Adrien was just done with his last class before some girls came looking at him. Adrien was quite popular in his high school, even though he was just a human, he had handsome features on his face with Black spiky hair that reaches his eyes that he would always just brush to the side with his hand. his dark green eyes that he inherited from his mother could smelt any girl's heart, he had a really good body built with a six-pack and muscles in all the right places, and that's not all, the worst part is, he knew he was handsome, but like always he ignored all the girls in the school. everyone that knew Adrien would say he was a cold heartless bastard that no one could come close to, no one dared to.

the only person that didn't see Adrien as a heartless person was his sister, and that's because Adrien's personality took a hole one-eighty degree once he came home and started to prepare a late dinner after doing his homework for four hours straight, Adrien was a straight-A student, and his dream was to ger a good degree, and then a good job that pays well. his dream was to buy a house for his sister and make her quit her job at the cafe.

after making dinner, he set the table. and like always, his sister Emma comes inside the door right as he set the last dish on the table. "dinners ready. go and was up and come to eat" Adrien said while getting some water and bread from the kitchen.

As they sat down on the chairs, Emma started to ask questions about Adrien's day and how he's been doing. "we've only talked about my day, how about you. how has your day been like?"

"the usual, Mandy coming in to annoy or embarrass me. and oh Lisa said she can drive us to the Capital city. isn't that great?" Emma announce,

"oh no, but she's so loud and annoying, and won't stop talking about how she wants her mate to be like," he said already dreading the trip.

"it's going to be fun, just think positively, and maybe you'll get to find yourself the special one there," she said giggling, but the time is she didn't know her brother only wanted to make his sister happy and never leave her side. but he didn't say anything and dismissed what his sister said.

the day of the trip came quickly, and Emma and Adrien were ready at six in the morning waiting for Lisa while eating breakfast. after about two hours Lisa shows up and that takes the suitcases into the car "do we have to take that bag with us, I mean we can just leave it here" he said hoping he could let all the homework and assignment stay back, "

"Good try but the school bag is coming to the trip with you, and it's going to keep you company while we're at the hotel," Emma said while throwing her brothers back into Lisa's Toyota.

about seven hours later and five toilet stops at gas stations, Adrien starts to complain yet again, "I'm hungry, it's been almost eight hours, without food.

I'm starving" Adrien tells out for the first time in twenty minutes, and I and Lisa started to get annoyed.

"four more hours and we're there, can you please just shut the f**k up" I haven't seen Lisa so annoyed in a long time. " there's a little diner about two hours away from now," I said with an annoyed face while taking out a chocolate bar " here eat this until we arrive at the diner," I said throwing the chocolate bar at him.

Jack

"I'm so bored, Ron, Jack let's do something" I looked up from my paperwork to look at Rollan who's been whining the last hour in my office. "hey wait how about a game," Ron said while running his head, also tired of Ron's constant whining. "what game, I'll go and make it ready in the game room until you guys get there," he said getting up from the black leather couch in my office. "yeah go and over to the game room and get it ready," Ron said, trying his best to get his little brother out of the room. until we heard a growling sound coming from him, " how about going out to eat something instead" he said looking at me, and now that he mentioned it, I'm hungry too "fine let's sneak out of the castle and find a place to eat then, Ron find us some royal guard outfit and Rolland find a good place to eat in quiet" both of the brother faces light up after hearing the word *sneak out* and did what I said without questioning. we used to sneak out a lot the time, but that was before we got responsibilities, after we got responsibilities we hardly had time.

"here's the guard's outfit" Rollan burst into the room right after I got done with the last paperwork in my hand. "good, I hope no one saw you," I said while staring at him." don't worry, no one saw me, and besides they were too busy running around getting things ready for the ball," he said while taking the outfit on. "good, Ron did you find a place to eat? " I asked him while also putting on the guard's outfit, "yeah it's about an hour away from here, it a diner, and a lot of the comment says they have the best burger and fries" and off we were after taking a BMW car that all the royal guards have access to.

After about an hour of driving, we finally arrive at the diner and walked in while covering our faces with caps and mask's around our mouth and nose, so people won't know who we are.

we found a booth and sat down until a waitress walked up to us asking about our order" 'll have a burger with fries and a coke" Ron and Rolland said at the same time." I'll have the same thing but with a sprite instead of coke," I said taking my phone out of my pocket and started to do work through it. my brothers continued to converse about a new game that's coming out.

"what are you going to choose Adrien" I heard the most angelic voice in the booth behind me. I was tempted to turn around and take a glance at her, but I refrain from doing that. but keep listening to the voice behind me. " I don't know, but I read online that this place is famous for its burgers and fries, so I think I'll get that," a male voice said that was close to the angelic one. I don't know why, but I got a little annoyed knowing he had all her attention. "what's wrong brother" I heard Ron says looking at me.

" it's nothing to worry about," I said while still having half of my attention on the booth behind me "maybe it's your fated mate," he said, shrugging while looking at the booth behind me, "I don't know, maybe," I said, knowing it's not the case. my mate was on the death bed when I found her, she had an illness and died the day I found her in the hospital, it was like she was waiting for me like she knew I would visit that day and waited for me, and when I come into her ward and looked into her eyes, I knew she was my fated mate, but some minutes later, she died on the bed. that day, I shifted to my wolf and ran to the woods making sure no one followed me and didn't show up, until three days later acting like nothing happened.

that's how I was sure she wasn't my fated mate.

but she had my and my wolf Killian's interest, and that's the first time we ever were interested in a female.
