Jethro's pov :
I was in my car heading to my company to start up the day when my phone vibrated. It was Daniel, my Beta and personal assistant, calling.
“Alpha, Helen just arrived in the city, and she’s at the company waiting for you. I requested for her to head back to the pack, but she isn’t listening to me. She wants to meet with you.”
I gripped the steering wheel tightly, my knuckles turning white. “What’s the problem with Helen?" I blurted out in frustration. "I'm on my way. I will get there soon. Just keep her in check,” I said before hanging up.
Helen has a very dangerous wolf, and getting herself exposed was the last thing I wanted. I have no idea what Helen’s problem is. She would stop at nothing until I marked her, which I wasn't ready to do. I wasn't sure I ever would. My name is Jethro Blackwoods, the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack. The position of Alpha was thrust upon me at the tender age of four after my parents' death. I've ruled the pack since then. I was told my parents were killed by a witch's spell.
I’ve tried to find out who the witch is and locate her clan, but to no avail. I promised myself that if I ever find her or anything related to her, they will die by my claw. Becoming an orphan and getting a huge responsibility placed on you at such a young age was traumatic.
After graduating from college, I started my company here in London, Blackwoods Foundation, which is the top-ranking company in the whole country. I was very famous in the country and beyond, with no one knowing I was a wolf. My pack is located close to the city, making it easier to oversee both the pack and my company. Many of my pack members have also moved into the city, living among humans while being careful.
Helen is my betrothed mate, the daughter of the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack. We were betrothed at birth, but I never wanted Helen as my mate. I want to find my fated mate, believing the Moon Goddess chooses the best for you. Helen moved into my pack house when I turned 18, and since then, I've had to deal with her. My pack members are keen on me choosing a Luna, but I still hope to find my true mate.
I was still lost in thought when my wolf, Devon, screamed in my head, Mate, our mate is here! he voiced out excitedly, limping in my head.
Mate? Where? I asked, looking around only to see my driver Stephen standing with a young lady. They were obviously in a heated argument. I was taken aback by how beautiful she looked, her brown silky hair let down to her waist, wearing an emerald green shirt with black corporate trousers. She looked so breathtaking as all her curves were outlined in the outfit. I couldn't believe my mate, who I had been searching for years, was standing right in front of me.
Our mate is angry, Devon said, his voice sad in my head. I immediately opened the door to intervene, to prevent Devon from getting angry and taking over.
She was staring at me intensely, as if taking me all in, as I stood there. Her vanilla scent filled my nostrils. She looked even more beautiful now that I had a closer look. Her deep blue eyes were almost shooting daggers at Stephen.
It seems our mate is quite strict. Devon whispered in my head, and I let out an uncontrollable smile. More than anything, I was happy to finally find my mate.
“Is there a problem here?” I asked. She turned to face me immediately, her face burning with anger.
“What's so funny?” she demanded, glaring up at me. “Your driver just almost hit me! Is this how you rich people behave in London?”
I hated the fact that she was angry, but I couldn't help but smile at how cute she looked now. Wanting to ease her mood, I asked, “Is there anything you want me to do in exchange for almost hitting you?” I asked in my calmest tone, my eyes staring deep into her captivating blue eyes.
“An apology, of course,” she demanded, causing me to chuckle lightly. For some reason, I found how she spoke right now quite funny and interesting.
“Sorry,” I apologized, staring into her eyes, waiting for her reaction.
Her brows furrowed into another frown. “Keep your sorry to yourself. Rubbish!” she blurted out, turning on her heels to walk away. I stood there, unable to take my eyes off her as she disappeared.
“I'm sorry for causing such a mess, Alpha,” Stephen, my driver, apologized.
“It's totally fine, Stephen. Let's just head to work,” I assured him.
I guess we need to find out more about our mate. How about we go find her after work? I said to Devon, who was still excited in my head. But wait, Jethro. I couldn't perceive her wolf earlier. It seems she is human Devon replied.
“What the f**k? The Moon Goddess has got to be kidding me. A human? How do I pick a human as my Luna?” I blurted out in frustration as we drove into the company. The thought of what the people's reaction would be if they found out their Luna was going to be human kept filling my head.
As I walked into the company, with workers greeting me here and there, Daniel walked up to me. “The new interns are waiting for you to address them. Do you want to address them first, and Helen just left and said she would wait for you at home?” Daniel explained.
“Ok then Let me meet with the interns first,” I demanded, heading towards the elevator. “They are obviously of more importance and thank God Helen was gone. She is probably here again to cry and blame me for making her reject her mate and not wanting to mark her as my Luna, but all those were none of my fault. It was a decision she made herself.
As we approached the room, the vanilla scent of my mate from earlier filled my nostrils again. The scent kept getting stronger the further we went, causing me to wonder what was going on.
Our mate is here, Devon murmured in my head, limping in excitement. “What do you mean, mate? How come she is here in my company?” I blurted out.
“Is something the problem?” Daniel asked, confused at my reaction.
“Nothing, just that I feel my mate is here,” I replied him.
“Really? You mean our Luna is here in our company? Jethro, this is a dream come true!” Daniel said in excitement.
“Don't get too excited. She is human,” I replied, not getting too interested.
“That has nothing to do with the fact she is our Luna. She was chosen for you by the Moon Goddess,” Daniel assured in an excited tone.
I sighed a little, the disappointment still in me. But just as the door pushed in for me to enter, I turned around to search for her as I could feel her right in the room, her scent consuming the whole of me. There she was she is an intern at my company. Our eyes met, and she quickly turned away, shock evident on her face. I let out a smirk while a sudden smile formed on my face.
She just has a way to make me smile with her attitude. Our mate is quite interesting, Devon said in my head.
I walked towards the podium, ready to deliver my speech, but I couldn't keep my gaze off her. She kept clouding my mind, and at intervals, she would stare at me and look away immediately.
“Good morning to you, interns. I want to say welcome to Blackwoods Foundation. You all have applied from different colleges, and we have picked you because we believe you are capable and ready to learn….” I continued my speech, turning to stare at her at intervals.
After the whole speech, I was about to round up. I wanted to think of something that would keep my mate by my side. She might be human, but she is still my mate, and the connection was surely there. Deep down, I wanted her close to me.
“So, I will be picking someone among you who will report everything concerning you all and the progress you are making directly to me.” I noticed her face was bent to the ground all along, not wanting to look up. “That person will oversee you all at your level, and that person will be her,” I said, pointing to her. She turned to the back to see if it was really her. She looked up at me, and I nodded my head. “Yes, you. Stand up,” I said to her. She looked totally lost, as if caught in an act.
“You will be the one to oversee your fellow interns. Follow me to my office immediately,” I instructed, turning back to leave.
