Unwanted Partner

1764 Words
ALORA I walk down the hallways, scanning the area for a sign that someone was watching me. I woke up the morning paranoid much to my dismay. For some unknown reason, my mind is convinced that Kian saw me last night and now he has someone watching me so they can snatch me when no one is watching. Watch better Alora. Who knows? Maybe they'll kill you and dump your useless body somewhere mommy and daddy can find you. It'll be a field day for me The voices in my head are having a field day with my new weakness and they are taking the utmost advantage of my new discovery but it is a shame I am too distracted to care about them at the moment. Last night confirms Dilora’s warning about Kian’s family being dangerous and now I understand her fears. The mafia were the people who you wanted to avoid with your entire being. They control the government and the underworld. “You girls want to hang out later? I don’t have anything to do and I get bored easily these days.” Harvey asks beside me. He runs his hands through his waist-length blonde hair and his blue eyes sparkle with mischief. “As long as it doesn't involve anything that would land me in jail” Hani laughs from my other side “My parents are in town and I don't need the extra headache from them” “I'm offended. I would never” Harvey gasps, his hands flying to his chest in a dramatic motion. “The mischief in your eyes says otherwise. Let's ask Dilora when we get to class” Hani suggests “I'm in. I'm tired of staying home all day and I get bored easily these days” I tell them with a smile on my face. “You wouldn't have been bored if you hadn't run out of the cafeteria yesterday like your arse was on fire” Harvey says, throwing his hands across my shoulders and I can hear the question of what happened laying underneath his statement. “Yeah, what was that all about yesterday? Something wrong with your folks?” Hani inquires just as we reach the hall where our morning class will be held. “It's nothing. I just panicked” I lie easily but not convincing enough because they don't look like they believe me but they don't probe any further. Harvey’s phone pings, indicating a message from someone. He whips his phone out from his bag and tense as he reads the message. “I... uh...I need to go” he says with his eyes darting around the hallway. “But it's time for class?” Hani points out the exact thought I have in mind. “I'll miss it. Please, take notes for me” he pleads before running down the hallway. Me and Hani share a look before she shrugs and steps into the hall. My eyes find him at the back of the class. This time, Mason is the only one in the class, his cousin is nowhere to be found. A small, sadistic and terrifying smirk appears on his lips, making it tug a little and I feel like the ground is about to swallow me. “What are you doing there? Aren't you going the find a seat?” The professor calls out to me and I glance towards him to find him looking at me, a little irritated that I was disrupting his class. I allow Hani to pull me towards Dilora who kept seats for us and I sneak a glance at him again and this time he has an amused expression on his face. He must have seen me yesterday, I conclude. Thar has to be the only reason why he is acting like this. I don’t even know why I am panicking. We don’t talk and we don’t know each other so why am I terrified of him? “s**t, Alora what are you going to do?” I glance towards Dilora in confusion, wondering why she looks ready to pass out. I had not been paying attention to the class so I am lost. I glance at Hani and she has the same worried look on her face. “Why do you look so pale?” I question when they won't say another thing to me. “You are paired with Kian for the class project” Hani answers and my eyes widen in shock. “What?” I yell and the entire hall turns to look at me and I shrink into myself, embarrassed at the scene I just caused. “I know. What are you going to do? The professor announced that we can’t change partners. Even Harvey is paired with Laurent” Hani continues and my eyes widen more in horror. What are the odds that we are both paired with the Bastons and they aren’t paired to themselves? Why are they even doing assignments, I’m sure they don’t need to except…. My head snaps to the back where he is already looking at me. I know he did this on purpose. He got the professor to make us partners and that sardonic smirk on his face proves it. He knows I was there last night and now he wants me to pay. He is going to do something to me while we are alone. The class is dismissed and people pile out of the hall. “We need to leave now” I tell the girls, standing up and grabbing my bag so I can run out of the hall before he can stop me but luck isn’t on my side. “Alora” I freeze at the sound of my name escaping a low baritone voice. The guttural sound makes my knees shake and I almost collapse to my seat at how smooth my name sounds on his lips. “We’ll be outside” Dilora panics and pulls Hani with her. “You can’t leave me here” I grab Hani before she can go far but she gives me an apologetic look before prying my hand off hers. “The look he’s giving me suggests he’ll kill us if we don’t leave. I’m sorry” The both of them scurry out of the hall and it becomes silent. The rest of my classmates don’t dare to stay behind. I turn to face him and my heart hammers with every step he takes as he approaches me. He stops before me and my eyes cast to the floor, avoiding his gaze. I catch his hands flexing in his pockets. “Why are you looking at the floor? Look at me” My head snaps up much to my surprise at how my body follows his command so easily. His body looms over mine and his eyes bore holes into my soul. I glare as hard as I can but it doesn’t bother him one bit. “What do you want?” I pin him with a straight look, a feeble attempt to hide how f*****g terrified I am standing in front of him. “I believe we have an assignment to complete” He smirks, mocking me. “I’ll do it and submit it for the both of us” “Now where’s the fun in that, dimples? We’re doing it together at my place” He tsks, bringing up his hands to my face to brush my cheeks with his knuckles in a lazy motion. I flinch back from his touch. “Don’t touch me” “Why shouldn’t I?” he says with his blackening gaze as they zero in on my lips which are currently subjected to being bitten. “Must I have a reason? I don't want you touching me” I spit, taking a step back because him being this close is making me dizzy. “That's not a good option so it's invalid. Meet me at the car park after school. I'm not asking, dimples” The bored look he carries around is gone and replaced by that sadistic glee I saw last night. “Don’t bother waiting. I'm not coming” “You don't want to do that, dimples. If I don't see you in the car park after school, I'm going to be forced to drag you out of school, over my shoulders” I suck in a crackling breath because somehow, I know he isn't bluffing. I would kill myself if he carried me out of school like that. He’s looking at me with that calm expression that I know is the opposite of the thoughts crawling in that sick head of his. “I see you understand that I'm not joking. See you then, Dimples. Don't keep me waiting” My heart plummets to the floor of my stomach as I watch him saunter away. I tear my gaze from him and glare at the floor, willing for all of this to be a dream. I feel so ashamed because someone I don't even know terrifies me this much. Thoughts are running wild in my head as I force myself to move, finding my way out of the class. What will he do to me? Where will he take me? “Are you okay?” I find my friends waiting for me just outside the hall. This time Harvey is back but he has a scarf around his neck. My eyes meet his in a question and he shakes his head in response, silently telling me not to ask any questions so I turn to Dilora instead. “Yes, I’m fine. He wants us to meet after class and I don't have an option” I whisper. “Oh God,” Dilora cries out softly. “Oh, shut it, Dilora. Stop making her nervous. Why are you acting like she is going to be killed or something?” Harvey snaps, annoyance on his face. “I'm just watching out for her” She stutters with wide eyes, taken aback by his sudden outburst. “Well, it's not helping and you're making her more anxious” He glares and Dilora clamps her mouth shut. He walks up to me and intertwines our hands together before pulling me towards the direction of the next class. “Don’t listen to her, you'll be fine. It's not like you're meeting the devil” There was an edge to his voice, almost like he didn't believe his own words. “I hope so” I mutter.
