CHAPTER 31

1037 Words

GILDA’S POV When Angel was done playing, I lifted her into my arms, and the three of us, Japheth, Angel, and I, went back inside the house. Japheth rolled quietly beside us as we returned to her room. Japheth stopped at the doorway while Angel and I went in. He didn’t follow us inside; instead, he stayed there, watching us in silence. The room felt unusually quiet, and I could feel his eyes lingering on both of us as we settled in. After a moment, he finally broke the silence. “I’ll leave you now,” he said. “But before she goes out to play again, I want to see you.” I watched as he wheeled himself out of the room. My heart wouldn’t stop beating so fast. Why did he want to see me? Had I done something wrong? Was he upset with me? What was going on? I looked at Angel and smiled at her.
